The tough weather conditions continued in Barcelona as the forecast strong breeze died out. Ineos Britannia returned to the water in their LEQ12 ‘T6’ after the foil crack in September whilst Orient Express Racing were also back out. In the deep Mediterranean and a persistently clocking north-easterly filtered into the early afternoon before a south westerly developed in the early evening. On the water, we saw the return of INEOS Britannia in their LEQ12 ‘T6’ after their foil crack on the 22nd September and Orient Express Racing were back out after their nosedive and jib rip yesterday in their AC40. In our fourth Maritime High School video installment, we'll hear why Ebony Welborn & Savannah Smith of Sea Potential are excited about Maritime High School! Sea Potential's mission is to cultivate a full cycle of BIPOC (Black, Indigenous, People Of Color) representation in maritime by innovatively strengthening environmental education and workplace culture.

This month in our Maritime High School video series we'll hear from Will Roberts, president of Foss Maritime—the premier Seattle-based harbor towing company that offers a range of marine transportation and engineering services.

For the second installment of the Maritime High School video series, we'll hear from Sarah Scherer. Sarah is the Maritime and Manufacturing Advocate at the Seattle Office of Economic Development. She has nearly 25 years of experience in the maritime industry, including positions in hydrographic research, fishing vessel operations, and oil spill response with the NOAA.

Each month we'll be interviewing some of the folks committed to the success of this school and its students, from educators to industry partners and everyone in between, covering topics like why maritime, why now, and what can our students expect from their MHS education? First up in our series is Tremain Holloway, inaugural principal of Maritime High School. Tremain previously served as co-principal at Highline High School and assistant principal at Raisbeck Aviation High School. He is an equity-driven leader, committed to academic excellence and innovative opportunities for all students.

Wednesday was a day of wind extremes on both ends of the spectrum, with three teams out on the water. NYYC American Magic were back out with their highly modified AC40’s running bespoke wings on both ‘America’ and ‘Magic’ whilst keeping the aero one-design to extract meaningful data. Emirates Team New Zealand had a short session truncated by some media demands but straight out of the Port Vell they were off and flying, setting the tone for a thrilling afternoon session of adrenaline pumping action. Meanwhile, Alinghi Red Bull Racing looked to push the absolute extremes of what an AC75 can do. While sailing from Santa Barbara to Catalina Island, we flew a spinnaker along the inland coast of Catalina. We weren't making one of the points of land we needed to in order to get to Avalon, and needed to gybe. This video shows how that gybe went fairly wrong. If you're going to learn anything from this, I think it would be not to call your gybe too early, and when short handed especially in heavier wind (22 knots here) it's best to do outside gybes. We had a very successful gybe a few days before, inside the Santa Barbara Channel, so maybe we felt a little cocky, but this definitely took us down a notch.

The Galeon 450 HTC includes all the essentials for day and night entertaining, day boating and longer cruising. Equipped with Galeon’s famous Beach Mode, port and starboard gunwale/decks, an optional hydraulic swim platform and its two-cabin, two-head design with a full-beam master, this versatile vessel has been designed for owners who want big motoryacht functionality in a compact package. The Performance The engines. Both models are powered with twin Volvo Penta D6 480-hp diesels with V-drives. The D6 diesel was designed years ago expressly for the marine market and is not a warmed-over truck engines. This is one of the reasons that is so suitable for yachts and over the years it has proven itself to be reliable and relatively trouble-free. Volvo Penta has a large parts warehouse in the U.S. and delivery of replacement parts is generally prompt according to our sources. We only tested one of the models – the 450 HTC (Hardtop) which had an estimated test weight of 41,240 lbs. (18,701 kg), 1,982 lbs. (900 kgs.) less the flying bridge model. The boat’s beam is 13’8” (12.59 m). Wide open throttle (WOT) speed of the 450 HTC was 31.3 mph (27.2 knots) at 3730 RPM. As in all boats, vessels are rarely operated at top speed for more than a few minutes, so this number is not particularly meaningful Best cruise, which is to say the most economical speed at which to maximize planning or semi planning travel was found at 2750 RPM where she achieved 21 mph (18.3 knots) burning 25.4 gph getting .7 nautical miles for a range of 290 nautical miles. We are constantly forced to confront nature in these risky situations And not only have I come to terms with that fact, its actually one of my favorite aspects of this lifestyle. There is something elevating about grappling with the harsh, indifferent aspects of nature and reaping the rewards. But this week we deal with a very different kind of danger, one that I feel much less comfortable with… other boaters, lots and lots of other boaters. For the last couple of weeks we’ve been exploring the Southern Ionian Islands of Greece, which are a bit off the beaten path and not terribly crowded but now that we’re in the Northern Ionian Islands of Greece we find ourselves in one of the most popular cruising grounds in the world and unfortunately due to the delays we experienced by Isabella's medical appointments, we are here in the busiest time of year. Now if the hoards of boats were simply making these pristine anchorages feel crowded, I wouldn't mind so much but time and again we find ourselves forced into situations that are down right dangerous. So it begs the question whether visiting one of the worlds most beautiful cruising grounds is worth the trouble. Ep 61 - Show install Its time to get some more projects done on this boat and getting her cruise ready. Today we work on getting the shower installed. It’s a rain shower with separate shower wand. This was a 2 day project and Andy of course, did the plumbing without video. But I was able to give the shower a good test! Love this shower and it’s the better than the shower we had at the house or in the RV. This is a complete luxury item for us and definitely worth the cost of putting in a home style shower.
