While sailing from Santa Barbara to Catalina Island, we flew a spinnaker along the inland coast of Catalina. We weren't making one of the points of land we needed to in order to get to Avalon, and needed to gybe. This video shows how that gybe went fairly wrong. If you're going to learn anything from this, I think it would be not to call your gybe too early, and when short handed especially in heavier wind (22 knots here) it's best to do outside gybes. We had a very successful gybe a few days before, inside the Santa Barbara Channel, so maybe we felt a little cocky, but this definitely took us down a notch.
