An early wake-up call for the 224 sailors present in Porquerolles for the 12mR World Championship, with a briefing at 8am and the first competitors joining the race zone at 8.30am. As planned, at 9:30am, the race committee was able to launch the start of a course built in ideal conditions, with a north-easterly wind oscillating between 12 and 20 knots. The fourteen 12mR boats then sailed two races in quick succession. As the wind ran out of steam during the third race, it was cancelled for Group 2 and restarted as soon as the wind picked up again at 14:34 by the race committee.

After re-launching their AC75 yesterday after the horror mast failure last week, Alinghi Red Bull Racing elected to give the shore team some time to effect repairs and kept BoatOne in the shed today, launching instead their two identical AC40s for some great two-boat race practise. Just as all the Challenger teams of the Louis Vuitton 37th America’s Cup were getting used to glorious southerly ‘Garbi’ winds, suddenly Barcelona throws in a curve-ball with a solid easterly, the famous 'Levant,' packing a very nasty short chop of 3 second period, kicking up wave heights of up to 1.6 metres as recorded by the recon teams. Chase Boats were not for the faint of heart, this was a tough day but one that the sailors revelled in. Alinghi Red Bull Racing’s shore team pulled together and delivered a most remarkable turn-around to recover and keep the whole programme on track. An heroic effort for sure by so many, what was proven was the team’s resilience and depth of talent – hallmarks of their campaign to date - and a very welcome sight out on the Barcelona waterfront. This is my own motivational poem and personal perspective. It is an extreme view on life's biggest decisions that we must all face. "To live free, is to risk it all. Plain and simple. Yet so many think they can have both freedom and security.... That is an invitation to the prison of life. If you doubt it, just look at a marriage, a mortgage, and working for someone else. Each A supposed guarantee of love, home, and steady pay. Yet each ultimately bends YOUR life to match its desires, and then so often, fails..... Resulting in divorce, eviction, and unemployment. Their secure world now shattered because they're alone, out in the cold, without any money. Because the simple truth is: Those who plan to have the rest of their lives together don't make the most of each day. Those who always sleep in the same bed eventually stop appreciating its comfort. Those that get paid every week spend their money frivolously. Life with guarantees prevents us from living to the fullest! But to be free: Is to know that our time together is limited, we must make the absolute most of each day. Is to have recently slept out in the cold, so always able to appreciate a warm bed. Is to have saved & counted every dollar, and know its true value for only what is needed. If these words inspire you, then step out of your comfort zone. Choose a lifestyle of adventure. Ride the highs & lows of life's roller-coaster. Know that death is the ONLY guarantee. Everything else in and of life is only temporary. And that to sacrifice freedom for security is to be undeserving of either. So you might at well.......
