Crafted from the Ferragni design studio she’s a real head turner, but what surprised us even more was the level of accommodation, making this a very useable (and beautiful weekender). Don’t get me wrong, it can be beautiful, but for the vast majority of the time its just a whole lotta blue… or grey. Now typically our goal of sailing through open ocean is to arrive at beautiful and exotic destination. But this week the journey is definitely more important than the destination because we’re going to be sailing through the Corinth Canal, a man made ditch that cuts through 260 foot tall hills in the heart of Greece. The word ditch makes it sound way less cool than it actually is. We’ll be cruising through a super narrow waterway with cliffs extending straight up on either side. It’s one of the coolest experiences we’ve had while sailing the world and I’m super stoked to take you along for the ride. Colregs Rule 5, often called the "First Rule of Seamanship": Maintain proper lookout. What does this mean? It's about maintaining 360 degrees of awareness when at the helm of a boat. In 2023, operator inattention and improper lookout were the top two known primary contributors to boating accidents, accounting for nearly 1,000 accidents, 66 of them deadly. In fact, inattention and improper lookout accounted for 1/4 of ALL boating accidents reported in 2023! However, there is a proven method for avoided distracted driving that ANY BOATER can learn. It's called the SCAN Procedure. The letters in SCAN stand for search, concentrate, analyze, and navigate. A small study in 2018 that tracked brain activity of recreational boat skippers showed much greater levels of concentration and less distraction after SCAN training than before they learned the SCAN technique. Falk gives a a quick behind-the-scenes on our redesigned Lobster Boat build! Before we can build a fiberglass boat, we need a mold. And before we can build a mold, we need a "plug"... a perfectly shaped hull to form the mold around. Here Falk shows our work-in-progress on the plug we'll use for the hull mold. Since the hull mold will be used for every future fiberglass Lobster Boat we build, here's lots of detail work in this phase to ensure we end up with a flawless shape. The plug is being built from MDF instead of wood. Since the plug itself will never go in the water, that means we can use this affordable material that you'd never use for the hull of an actual boat. MDF has a consistent density and texture, so we don't have to work around any flaws or knots you'd have in natural wood grain. As a result, fairing the boat into its final shape is much less time consuming than it would be otherwise. We were so close to the finish line you could spit at it! And then the wind shut down, the boat spun 180 degrees in the wrong direction, and so why not finish in reverse! The Richmond Yacht Club often times rewards creativity in their beercan races, so I figured I'd give it a shot. It went over well, and while we weren't awarded a prize bottle of wine, we received high accolades for our creativity. I've proposed a change to the racing rules, which is that motoring is not allowed... unless it's in reverse.

I want...... no NEED! For this wonderful, amazing, great dog "Prada" to be adopted to a loving forever home somewhere far far away where it's much colder than it is here in the Dominican Republic! Here's the deal: For the past couple months I've been volunteering with the Coconut Hound Haven in Luperon the Dominican Republic. This place is a sanctuary for dogs that have been abandoned, mistreated, mal nourished, or left to starve. This is the place that's cleaned up the streets of the little town, and helped give so many dogs a second chance at life. They do an absolutely amazing job, especially considering the limited resources they have to work with(donate if you can please). When I first started volunteering I'd help walk, socialize, and play with the dogs. Yes that is what they call helping out, and it's very much needed. But I just call that fun. I got to pet & play with dogos! However, I soon started realized I could do more. I could help specific dogs get adopted using my social media channels. So that's what I did. In particular I've been focusing on Prada. A 3 year old, 60lb pure bred Shepard/Huskey 50/50 mix. And she has been doing amazing!
