The Australian Sailing Team was competing in full force at the ISAF Sailing World Cup Hyères with this Olympic and Paralympic class regatta being the first major event on the road to Rio 2016 selection. The top 40 boats of the world's best competed in each of the ten Olympic class events in Hyères after changes to the ISAF Sailing World Cup format and pre-qualification based on the ISAF World Sailing Rankings and a qualification regatta. Australian Sailing Team’s World #1 Laser sailor Tom Burton won the gold medal and Olympic gold medallists Nathan Outteridge (NSW) and Iain Jensen (NSW) added a silver medal in the 49er, which they had already secured on Saturday with one day to spare. Olympic gold medallist and five-time World Champion Mathew Belcher (QLD) and dual World Champion crew Will Ryan won Sunday’s medal race, which secured them the silver medal in the Men’s 470. This brought the total Australian medal tally to one gold, two silver in the Olympic classes at the first European World Cup of the 2015 series. In the Nacra 17 class dual Olympic medallist Darren Bundock (NSW) and Olympic silver medallist Nina Curtis (NSW) finished the medal race in third and overall fourth. Before Kuala Lumpur developed into the international capital it is today, Penang was the economic and cultural hub of Malaysia. It was not only the original British colonists who shaped the island's capital, Georgetown, much of the architecture and culture was influenced by later Chinese and Indian settlers. Some of the buildings date back to the late eighteenth and early nineteenth century. Voted in 2014 as Lonely Planet's number 1 destination for food, Penang is equally renowned for its canteens, restaurants and 'hawker' food markets which feed locals and tourists well into the night. From cheap one-dollar street stalls selling scewered fish cakes, to more adventurous double-roasted pork dishes with fungus, food in Penang is spectacular. George Town is fascinated with art and design of all kinds. In 2012 Ernest Zacharevic was commissioned to paint a collection of murals within the inner conservation zone. www.acm-cata.com www.100pour100-cata.com • Après avoir navigué entre La Rochelle et Barcelona, à bord de notre Nautitech Open 40, nous commençons la quatrième étape de notre formation convoyage entre Barcelona en Espagne et Hyères sur la Côte d’Azur. • L'escale à Barcelone Port Olympic a été courte. Hélas, pas le temps de visiter la ville. Le temps de refaire les pleins de gasoil et de vivres, de déposer sur le quai François-Pierre, pressé par ses obligations professionnelles, et nous quittons Barcelone le 28 mars un peu avant 20h. • La météo nous laisse l'espoir d'une fenêtre d'accalmie pour passer les caps Creus et Bear au moteur. • Nous utilisons les fichiers de prédictions de courants fournis par l'application Weather4D, de manière à conserver une vitesse maximum sur le fond, plus de 7 noeuds dans la première partie de nuit. L'application de navigation iNavX, connectée au transpondeur AIS en Wi-Fi dont le bateau est équipé, permet de se glisser dans le trafic maritime des navires entrants et sortants de Méditerranée, affichés sous forme de cibles avec leur vecteur de route, et toutes les informations nécessaires au calcul de leur approche. C'est un équipement particulièrement sécurisant. • La nuit s'écoule sans voiles en alternant les 2 moteurs babord et tribord. Le matin nous permet d'admirer les Pyrénées fortement enneigées en arrière-plan de la côte. La houle de nord commence à se manifester passé le cap de Planas, mais le vent reste presque nul. • L'ouverture du passage à niveau sera de courte durée avant le déclenchement du coup de vent généralisé attendu en fin d'après-midi, et nous forçons des deux moteurs en début de matinée. Les Yanmar 30CV à 2500 tours/mn nous propulsant à guère plus de 5 noeuds dans cette houle de face. • La décision de notre capitaine Maël fut la bonne. Nous avons franchi le cap Creus dans une mer confuse mais avec un faible vent de sud-est. Nous avons remis à la voile peu avant le cap Bear, le vent s'est rapidement orienté ouest à nord-ouest en forcissant, et nous avons entamé une route au près pour nous rapprocher de la côte. Mer et vent sont restés maniables, malgré quelques trains de vagues abruptes transformant notre catamaran en shaker. Nous avons pu maintenir un cap nous rapprochant de Sète. • A hauteur de Leucate en milieu de nuit nous avons abattu en grand pour mettre le cap au portant en route directe vers Porquerolles. Le vent réel reste stable en direction, force 6 à 7. Avec la GV réduite à 3 ris et le foc roulé de moitié, nous avons de quoi étaler le renforcement prévu dans la matinée. Notre Nautitech se transforme en luge, propulsé à plus de dix noeuds par les vagues de l'arrière, parfaitement maintenu sur son cap par le pilote automatique, et les quarts se passent au chaud dans le carré. • Au petit jour, comme prévu, le vent est monté d'un cran, nous propulsant dans des surfs à plus de 15 noeuds. Grisant, mais il a semblé plus raisonnable d'affaler la GV. Le soleil s'est levé devant le foc seul à 4 tours qui nous tire encore à 10 noeuds sur une mer formée mais régulière. Nous avons agrémenté cette matinée rock'n roll par les bons vieux tubes de Noir Désir, à fond sur la stéréo du bord. • On distingue les Calanques de Marseille. • Le Cap Sicié est doublé dans un vent de force 8 et une mer forte. • Arrivée au Port de Hyères le Gapeau le 30 mars • Entre La Rochelle et Hyères en passant par le détroit de Gilbratar, nous avons effectué en 18 jours 2058 milles nautiques, soit quelques 3811km. www.acm-cata.com www.100pour100-cata.com Après avoir fait le trajet La Rochelle – Cartagena en Espagne à bord de notre Nautitech 40 open, nous abordons la troisième étape de notre formation convoyage entre Cartagena et Barcelona en Espagne. Comme lors du trajet Cascais – Cartagena, nous sommes 5 à bord : Départ de Cartagena le 25 mars au matin. Les bulletins météo se succèdent sur nos tablettes, peu réjouissants. Un épisode de forte tramontane est toujours prévu pour les derniers jours du mois. Nous montons avec voiles et moteurs contre le vent vers le Nord, en longeant la côte d'assez près afin d'éviter la houle due au vent. Nous prévoyons plusieurs étapes en rasant la côte pour gagner un port d'attente, certainement l'Estartit, à proximité du Cap Creus, en espérant pouvoir traverser le Golfe du Lion dès que la tramontane commencera de faiblir. A la mer d'huile du début de nuit a succédé une mer formée au passage du Cabo de la Nao. Le vent est monté à 20 noeuds de nord-ouest, obligeant à prendre le premier ris. L'Open 40 nous surprend par une bonne vitesse de 8 noeuds dans cette mer courte force 3, à 55 degrés du vent, sous GV à 1 ris et foc Solent bordé plat. Nous devons finalement nous aider des deux moteurs pour gagner au vent le havre de Cullera où nous attend la tante de notre skipper, Maël, qui nous a invités le soir pour une paella traditionnelle dont elle a le secret. L'escale sera sur notre route, car les conditions de vent à venir nous incitent à longer la côte pour naviguer sur mer plate. Prudence oblige. Encore sous l’effet de la délicieuse paella familiale de la veille, nous reprenons la mer en quittant Cullera le 27 mars. Pour la première fois depuis le départ de La Rochelle, notre catamaran navigue sous un chaud soleil, sur une mer belle, un ciel dégagé, et de petits airs. La navigation comme on la rêve ! Depuis Cullera, que nous avons quitté en début de matinée, les prédictions météo du nouveau modèle américain GFS à 0,25º se sont avérées d'une redoutable précision. Le vent est passé successivement de l'ouest au sud-ouest faible, puis nul, pour se relever au sud-est à l'heure prédite. Ce phénomène de brise thermique devrait être remplacé dès ce soir par une Tramontane de 25 à 30 noeuds qui soufflera dans le courant de la nuit, au large du détroit de l'Ebre, une vaste plaine canalisant ces vents de nord-ouest. Nous maintenons la route à longer la côte afin d'éviter une mer trop formée pendant cet épisode nocturne à mi-chemin de Barcelone. En attendant, la fin du jour nous gratifie du magnifique spectacle de Cumulus lenticulaires embrasés par le soleil couchant sur un fond de ciel d'un bleu profond. Superbes nuées incendiées que ne manque aucun appareil photo du bord ! Les prévisions météo n'ont pas menti. Un vent de nord-ouest 25 nœuds avec des rafales à 30 nœuds a levé une mer forte et hachée toute la nuit, obligeant à réduire la voilure, d'abord Gennaker remplacé par le Foc Solent puis deux ris successifs dans la Grand-voile. Les vagues courtes venaient fréquemment percuter le bateau, inondant le pont et les grands hublots du carré. Heureusement, nous étions à l'abri du vaste cockpit, protégé par l'immense hard-top de notre Open 40, et par le cabriolet le ceinturant que nous avions déroulé en prévision. Nous avons pu faire une route directe vers Barcelone, au petit largue avec une vitesse soutenue de 8 à 9 noeuds sur le fond. Arrivée à Barcelona à 17 heures le 28 mars où nous déposons notre équipier stagiaire. Le loch affiche 1797 milles nautiques depuis La Rochelle. Contactez-nous à catamaran@sfr.fr

Etape 2 - Cascais - Cartagena www.acm-cata.com www.100pour100-cata.com Après avoir fait à 2 le trajet La Rochelle – Lisbonne au Portugal à bord de notre Nautitech Open 40, nous entamons la seconde étape de notre stage de formation "Grand-Large" entre Cascais au sud du Portugal et Cartagena en Espagne. 3 équipiers supplémentaires embarquent à Cascais pour le trajet jusque Hyères : Olivier Bouyssou, développeur de l'application de météo-routage Weather4D et Francis Fustier, rédacteur du blog Navigation Mac, se retrouvent à bord pour mettre au point et tester un nouveau développement, pour le premier, et pour valider l'équipement électronique de ce dernier-né des catamarans Nautitech, pour le second, à bord duquel il aura à dispenser des formations spécifiques de navigation avec iPad, inscrites au catalogue ACM Un stagiaire, François-Pierre, embarque pour compléter avec ACM ses connaissances en navigation hauturière sr catamaran. Le 19 mars, après avoir fait les pleins de nourriture, d’eau et de gasoil, et après un sérieux "topo sécurité" et une présentation détaillée du bateau, effectués par le skipper, les amarres sont larguées, cap au Sud pour Gibraltar. Dans la matinée du 20, en doublant le Cap Saint-Vincent, l'équipage peut admirer l'éclipse de lune, grâce à un ciel partiellement voilé d'altocumulus qui atténue son éclat dangereux pour les pupilles. La route s'effectue en grande partie sous GV haute et Gennaker, entrecoupés d'épisodes au moteur pour maintenir le timing imposé par le convoyage. Notre chef de bord-formateur profite de tous les moments importants de navigation, et aussi du temps disponible, pour initier les deux débutants du bord, Alain et François-Pierre, aux arcanes de la navigation à voile, du matelotage et du tracé de route, tandis que les deux "geeks" du bord s'échinent sur les applications de navigation sur tablette, l'un développant, l'autre testant, grâce au confort du carré de l'Open 40. Le temps est bouché, typiquement britannique à l'approche de Gibraltar. Nous bénéficions d'un courant puissant dû à la marée exceptionnelle de cet équinoxe de Printemps, qui nous propulse à plus de 10 noeuds sur le fond vers Tarifa. Le détroit est passé en fin de journée, en se maintenant au nord du rail sortant des cargos, particulièrement encombré. La mer forme des tourbillons et des marmites impressionnantes à l'approche de Tarifa, et nous doublons Europa Point à la nuit tombante sous des grains fortement pluvieux mais avec peu de vent. On dépasse les 1000 milles parcourus dans le courant de la journée du 21 mars, Peu après Gibraltar, on se prend un bout’ dans l’hélice tribord. Arrêt en pleine mer. Il est rapidement évident qu'il faut se mettre à l'eau, et deux volontaires se relaient en habits d'Adam dans une eau à 16 degrés, avec masque et tuba mais sans combinaison, hélas. Après un bon quart d'heure de bataille, un gros morceau de filet de pêche en polypropylène est découpé au couteau, libérant enfin l'hélice. Le ciel s'est de nouveau couvert, la mer grise acier nous rappelle que nous sommes toujours en hiver. Dauphins dans la méditerranée. Nous arrivons à Cartagena le 23 mars vers minuit sous une pluie fine, froide et pénétrante, pas fâchés de tourner les amarres et de nous réchauffer dans le carré, bien protégé par le confortable cockpit ceinturé d'un robuste cabriolet de toile. www.acm-cata.com www.100pour100-cata.com Le Nautitech Open 40, baptisé « Nocealia », tout frais mis à l'eau à La Rochelle, vient d’être livré le 12 mars 2015 à la société ACM qui le prend en gestion pour le compte de son propriétaire. L’objectif de cette croisière est de convoyer ce tout nouveau catamaran de La Rochelle jusqu’à Hyères en passant par le détroit de Gibraltar et d’en faire le prétexte à un stage de formation "Grand-Large" organisé par ACM. Passage au large du cap Finistère en Espagne Arrivée à Cascais, le petit port situé à proximité de Lisbonne au Portugal le 18 mars à 3 heures du matin après 5 jours de navigation.
