We've been whitewater rafting all across North America and it's such a thrill, but we've never had the opportunity to paddle through freezing glacial water surrounded by giant canyon walls. Six Mile Creek near Hope Alaska is one of the most technical rivers we've floated, two class IV canyons and the third canyon is a class V. It's an action packed rafting trip and it's claimed to be the best whitewater in all of Alaska. We weren't allowed to bring any cameras and we had to get special permission to wear our helmet cam because they've lost so many and this river is protected by the National Forest. From the 4 am following us right on our stern without lights. To me franticly trying to get an answer on the radio. It was a crazy experience to have some small skiff speed up to us completely blacked out at 4 am and not answering after multiple hails on channel 16. We were nearly brought to firing warning shots. Only after a final warning did they turn on lights and acknowledge they were US coast guard. Very scary experience off of the nicaraguan coast

The 36 foot S2 center cockpit sailboat has a very hard to reach bilge area. It has an encapsulated keel which is good and bad. the last foot of the keel is hollow and about 3 feet deep. Richard Hunter, his wife and three teenagers cruised for a week in the Croatian Islands in their Cape Henry 21 "Ruby". Fully stocked with all the food and liquids needed for the 5 people, they didn't need to put into harbour for their entire cruise, instead anchoring in secluded bays each night.

As event manager Andrew Hawkins highlighted, “it’s a pity about the final day but the sailors understand no wind is part of the sport”. 29er Winning 29er pair of Kurt Hansen and Jim Colley (RPAYC/GSC) sailing the skiff Objective appreciated how close Tom Crockett and Tom Grimes from the Belmont 16’ Skiff Club came to the current Australian class champions and past 29er world champion skipper. “It was really close and would have been fun to have a tussle with the other fellas on the final day, they are really good, and that Crockett he’s a grommet – and smart,” Hansen said. Both Hansen and Colley have been studying for the HSC for the past month, once school finishes they’ll resume training for the youth worlds in Malaysia and messing around in their 49er. The upcoming summer season will the pair’s last on the youth circuit, the cut-off being 19 years old in December. Canadian dual Olympic sailor Mike Leigh is Alexander’s coach and mentor and the YST sailor who is starting year 12 this week says sailing is his obsession, and he wants to go all the way. “You do it as much as you can and the rest follows. I’m out on the water 3-5 days a week and then at the gym and boxing plus school. It’s a juggling act fitting everything in but I manage.” 420 The only all girl team to take out the top podium placing at the NSW states were Youth Sailing Team sailors Charlotte Griffin and Chelsea Connor in the 420 class, their first win as a new combination. Representing Middle Harbour Yacht Club and RPAYC, Crush edged out Xavier Winston-Smith and Alec Brodie on Selden for Sailing, and Connor admits it feels good to beat the boys. “They were trying to psyche us out this morning saying there was only one point in it, but we don’t let them get to us…. it’s good to have a joke around,” she laughed. A fleet of over three hundred yachts with crews aged from 6 to 18 hit the three courses on Botany Bay hosted by the Georges River Sailing Club. Light airs and high temperatures prevailed over the weekend but there was plenty of strong technique on show from all the classes as can be seen in this video shot by Dale Lorimer of Bow Caddy Media. Sadly racing was cancelled on the last day due to the absence of wind.
