For me, sometimes extreme boredom, frustration with the motion of the boat, feeling isolated/alone, and missing friends and family bucket loads can lead to a little bit of a breakdown every now and then. I’m only human! There are always dramas onboard (EVERYONE has them), weather it be physical or mental. When La Vagabonde has been rocking and rolling back and forth for 4 days straight, and I’ve been copping bruises from the furniture and hoping for the slightest break in the weather that never comes, a boiling pot of water being thrown at me you could say was my last straw. The good times always end up evening out with the bad, but the unpredictability of each day can be stressful and has been since day 1. One day can be the best day of my life, filled with aqua blue waters, smooth sails, palm trees and sunshine, and the next can be the worst….. no sleep for a few days, breaking expensive equipment, haven’t showered or eaten and I’m questioning what on earth I’m doing trying to sail around the world having no sailing experience. But in the end, it’s all worth it for me. I love every minute of it, what we have seen and done around the world with Riley on La Vagabonde. But holey tolitos sometimes it can be tough! Do you guys want to see more of the bad times in videos? Please leave a comment and let me know. Love, Elayna. Want the chance to come aboard/unseen footage privileges? We go into a lot more detail on our website: http://www.gonewiththewynns.com/sailboat-life-finding-our-groove-and-getting-burned After spending a small fortune at the Harbor Towne Marina we decide to anchor out at Lake Sylvia near downtown Ft. Lauderdale for almost a week while we wait for our service appointment. We're surrounded by beautiful homes, there's a nice breeze, it's quiet and MOST importantly: there are no bugs! We're just getting the hang of things and there's no doubt living on the hook is going to be our preferred cruising lifestyle. Of course we still have a ton to learn...and that's pretty apparent! For insurance purposes, we were instructed to make arrangements for the Caribbean hurricane season running from July to November. Option one was to leave the Caribbean. Option two was to lay-up for the season in a designated hurricane hole or area in the Caribbean deemed safe if a hurricane passes. My husband and I decided to leave the tropics and head north to the east coast of America. This video is part one of several showcasing our journey from the American Virgin Islands on up to the eastern American state of North Carolina. We had a great trip when we went out fishing with the Mexican Gulf Fishing Company out of Venice LA. We fished for Yellow-Fin tuna and caught 3 fish, landed 2 of them, one was 35 lbs, the other was 65 lbs. There were also another 10 Red Snapper that we caught and we limited out on those. Great, Great Fishing trip. If you are looking for a great fishing experience, go to Venice LA where there are all kinds of great sport fish from Grouper, Tuna, Barracuda, Mahi Mahi, Swordfish. Just a great group of guides that know their stuff. Check them out here - http://www.mgfishing.com Join us on our journey as we continue to rebuild, refit and prepare our Formosa 51 Sailboat for our continued cruising journey. We have always loved the Formosa, bought one (on a bit of a whim) late in 2014, moved aboard this one right away and started to do our refit while living board. We are avid fans of Cruising Outpost and Good Ole Boat (Good Old Boat) magazines and love the ideas we get from them. -~-~~-~~~-~~-~- Please watch: "How to repair a wooden mast, boom, spar or Bulkhead (Step by Step) " https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6Nxr-yxUjvQ -~-~~-~~~-~~-~-

If you are considering replacing your mainsail, headsail, mizzen or staysail with Egyptian Tanbark please chose your sail designer carefully. Tanbark requires special attention to details that not all designers have experience with. Egyptian Tanbark is a traditional sail material that originated from treating cotton sail by soaking them along with Tree Bark in order to help resist rot and mildew. Now these sails are made from Dacron, however they are treated in a similar way in order to achieve the same look and feel of the Cotton Sails. http://www.precisionsailloft.com/sails/upwind/m/mariner/mariner-32/headsails/product/mariner-32-cruising-headsail/
Tan Bark is a unique sail that is typically used on traditional wooden sail boats. The color comes from the egyptian cotton sails that were soaked in a solution from tree bark in order to reduce rot. If you are considering Egyptian Tanbark Mainsails, Headsails, Mizzens or Staysails please choose your sail designer carefully. Tanbark is not dacron and needs to have special attention paid to it. http://www.precisionsailloft.com/sails/upwind/m/mariner/mariner-32/mainsails/product/mariner-32-cruising-mainsail/
Mariner 32 Mainsail with an off shore package in Tan Bark is an amazing sail. If you have a traditional sail boat and are looking for a traditional sail look this is what you are looking for. Tanbark is not an easy cloth to design with. If you are considering Egyptian Tanbark for your Mainsail, Headsail, Staysail or Mizzen please be careful who you choose to design your sail. http://www.precisionsailloft.com/sails/upwind/m/mariner/mariner-32/mainsails/product/mariner-32-cruising-mainsail/
