This is the start of a new series, my greatest adventure yet. Sink or Swim is an account of the trials, successes and failures of building a 47 foot Wharram Oro Catamaran Really appreciate the support, check out the Patreon for more access and perks: https://www.patreon.com/FindingSimon If Patreon isn't your thing, I also have a Paypal.me link: paypal.me/ShelbyandSimon I'm a Canadian photographer from Ottawa who got rid of everything to travel to world. I make travel vlogs sharing my ups and downs, adventures on motorbikes, sailboats, and vans. Instagram: @Finding_Simon Snapchat: Finding_Simon Twitter: @FindingSimon Donations: paypal.me/ShelbyandSimon Patreon: https://www.patreon.com/FindingSimon Merchandise: http://simonstiles.com/finding-simon/ :::::::FAQ::::::: - How do you afford to travel constantly? A: I travel really cheap, free camping, cooking my own meals, being as efficient as possible. I make my income almost entirely on YouTube but it's really tight. Ad revenue, patreon, paypal donations, merchandise sales and affiliate links bring in about as much as a part time minimum wage job, and I'm able to make that work. When it isn't enough I go back to work, doing photography mostly, sometimes commercial video projects, but it takes me away from my travels and videos. - How much does it cost? I spend on average $2000 travelling, most of which is gas, some repairs, food, and on average less than $200 on any eating out, shopping or extra curricular expenditures. I make $200 a month from YouTube and $400 from Patreon. The rest I make from my work. - What camera do you use? Sony A7ii, Nikon D810, Sony RX100 iii, DJI Phantom 3 Advanced, Rode Videomic with Deadcat, Zihyun Crane 3 Axis Gimbal, Underwater Housing, tripods and lights. - What is your bike? 1999 Yamaha Vstar XVS1100 with a Champion Escort sidecar. - What're your plans? Buy a boat, fix it up, sail off into the sunset. - How do you find all these cool places? To gain access to my complete research you need to hit me up on Patreon, but here's a few sites I frequent: https://freecampsites.net/ https://www.campendium.com/ http://www.atlasobscura.com/ https://www.couchsurfing.com/ - What do you do for Internet? I use coffeeshops and libraries to upload episodes a few at a time, I also use my wifi antenna (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5T9lNM8Mukk&t=2s) and a data package on my phone (10GB) - How do you live on the road with a dog? It's really not as difficult as people seem to think. I spend most of the day with my dog anyways, especially if it's warm out in the middle of the day. I let the constraint of bringing my dog with me help me make some decisions, avoiding places that ban dogs, and spending more time out in nature instead of in the cities. - What happened to the girl? We decided to go separate ways (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aPgxDIXxCjY&t=4s) - Are you rich or something? definitely not. I've spent some quality time homeless, I've struggled financially most of my life, and although I'm blessed with great friends and family as well as being able bodied white and male, I don't subscribe to the belief that you need someone footing your bills in order to travel the world. You need to sacrifice comfort, consistency, safety, time with family, and often your career but it is possible. - Why don't you have 10x more subscribers? My channel isn't that old, many of the bigger channels you can compare mine to started putting out videos a couple years before I began. I could always use your help sharing my videos, spreading the word, and connecting with cross promotional opportunities. Editing and travelling tend to take up all my time. - Where are you now? The top perk on my Patreon page is a live link of my location on google maps so you can get an active idea of where I am currently. If that's not an option for you there's also Instagram and Instagram stories that give you a much better idea of what I'm up to today.

We made it out of Jose unscathed. It weakened and veered East so we did not get too much effect from it besides moderate wind and big swell on the ocean. Intro to Jasper Marine
Wandering around the old town of Santa Rosalía we find an incredible abandoned copper mining operation. Founded in the 1800’s by the French El Boleo company, the old foundry building, among many others has been completely abandoned, although we discover the mine is still in operation. Here, we try to survive the scorching summer heat, refilling our drinking water, getting a part welded for our sailboat and taking in the town’s history. And... The original battery of a Canon Eos 700D does not last very long when you use the autofocus, the flash, take some moving shots, ... That's why I bought a budget add-on grip and battery cover which doubles the battery capacity at once. As a bonus, your 700D becomes somewhat heavier and bulkier. This benefits the stability when using this camera. You feel you have something in your hands. And it looks somewhat professional... This budget grip comes from China and was delivered with 2 li-ion batteries. The total price of the grip and 2 batteries is even less than the price of 1 original Canon battery. How the quality of these batteries is, that shall come clear over time. The grip however looks good quality and doesn't mismatch to the original rubber and plastics of the Canon.
After midsummer festival the next sailing trip took place in the very beginning of my summer holiday. Finally I can dedicate my time fully for sailing for several weeks. Once again I had new visiting crew member, my colleague Jani. Whole trip was full of surprises and our plans did not go at all as planned but better! This is one of the exiting part of sailing life, you never know where you end up.

I have had this little set for some time, and I love it so much. Decided to share it with you guys. Do you like it? I think it's truly unique, and bravo to the photographer! Make sure to like and sub!
In this sail life vlog, Tambi enjoys the first REAL shower she's had in 3 months of cruising the Bahamas by sailboat. Nothing makes you appreciate the little things in life more than doing without them for a while. Take showers for instance. The overwhelming majority of people enjoy a nice hot shower each and every day. The shower we enjoyed at Great Harbour Marina, after going without REAL showers for over 90 days, was probably the best shower we've ever had. Alright, that's enough about showers. What else is in this video... Oh there's a plane wreck that we snorkel around for a while. Really cool plane. I think this one had the engines mounted on the wings. Must have been a pretty good sized plane back in the day. Let's see - there's also a good bit of sailing as well. Then at the very end I'll show you a short clip that Tambi ruined because she was in her underwear. The nerve... Thanks for watching!! Ben and Helen, owners and builders of the first Cabo Rico Triburn Ketch ever built. They said it was the prototype. The book they wrote "Sailing Down the Mountain" is spectacular. The CR38 we are filming from was anchored next to us in Key West. Forgive me but i cant remember the name.
As it turned out there was just enough, and we had a very pleasant sail with 3 generations of our family on board. Music from http://www.purple-planet.com/

E56 Weekly Vlog of Life in a Nutshell travels. After leaving Longreach the road starts to get more demanding for the riders. A stop at a hill for some sand practice and everyone makes it to the top, finally. Then on into the town of Birdsville which usually has a population of about 150 which swells to up to 7000 when the Birdsville Races is on. A great weekend of Australian culture. We hope you enjoying traveling along with us both as we share many of the remotest and often unseen areas of the Australian Outback with you all. Thank you all so much for watching. Our FINAL SAIL of the season takes us down the Wild Coast of South Africa and back to CAPE TOWN!!! Sailing around the Cape of Good Hope can be some of the most dangerous waters in the world but the forecast looks and we decide to go for the run down the Wild Coast! We have some epic wind and good speeds and blast around right through the Agulhas current, but before rounding Cape Agulahas a low pressure system forces us into Mossel bay to wait for thing to clear. We wake up early to find clear sunny skies and make our final sail around Cape Point and into the amazing city of Cape Town! Mr. Brady turns 30 the morning we pull into Cape Town so we start off with bloody mary's for breakfast and pretty much have a rager to celebrate with friends :) Subscribe at http://youtube.com/svdelos This is our story, a story of three souls sailing around the world. It is a story about sailing and travel and adventure. But it's also a story about meeting amazing people and making life long friends. It's a story of people living their lives in an alternate way, in close connection with the beautiful people and amazing planet that we call home. Our experience has affected us so profoundly we want to share it, hoping that others may find inspiration to follow their dreams and do what they love. For more sailing around the World Action! Tour des Yoles is the most important yearly sportive event of Martinique. The entire country celebrates this event as traditional sailboats race around the island. We had the front row seats to the show, anchored in the bay of Fort de France (where the final race ended) It was truly an amazing experience to have been part of it all, but Probably NOT the best idea to be anchored in the middle of it, as it was pure CHAOS with more than a thousand boats motoring around eachother to watch the show. If you enjoyed this episode, please give it thumbs up, it helps us out a bunch :) WANT MORE? Water is life and we are so happy that we can finally make our own drinking water! No more struggling with jerry cans and now we are even more independent on RAN. After launching RAN and going back to the anchorage in Spanish Water, Curacao, we start right away with the preparations for the watermaker. We take you through the whole installation and hope this can be a help if you’re planning to install a watermaker yourself. More info about Cruise RO Watermakers: http://www.cruiserowaterandpower.com/ Founder, Rich Boren, gives tips and advice on his YouTube channel: https://www.youtube.com/user/CruiseROWater/videos Additional drone footage by our Curaçao friend Alsino.Check out his YouTube channel: https://www.youtube.com/user/curacao11 We are a Swedish couple who wanted a different kind of life. So we moved aboard our sailboat RAN, a custom built aluminium Beason 40, untied the lines in the middle of the Swedish winter and started to sail south along the coast of Europe. There is no set route and we will go where the wind and our minds take us. WANT MORE? Thanks so much for your support, The adventure continues. Safe sailing. Twitter https://twitter.com/barryperrins Facebook https://www.facebook.com/adventuresofanoldseadog/ Boat: White Shadow is a Van De Stadt ‘Seal’ 36 (11 metres). She is hand made in steel, 2004, with a round bilge (hull) and a modified coach roof. This makes her a ‘one off’ and in my opinion the most beautiful Van De Stadt 36 ever built. The camera gear: Main camera is a Panasonic Hc-v700. Most shots are done with an external mic (Shenggu sg 108) with a sponge and dead kitten attached. Action stuff and small blogging is done with a Sony Hdr-as30v. Underwater video Gopro3plus. Editing: Final cut pro on a Macbook. Most of the material for each video is filmed over a period of several weeks or so and the editing of each episode is normally done over a day. This process can take longer if original music is used or permissions are needed for copyrighted materials etc. Much time is spent sorting out technical problems. In this case I normally get the help of a younger person who understands computerie stuff! There are also times when filming, editing and uploading is not possible due to being at sea or in locations with no internet access. Content: I have found that filming and releasing material over a period of time is better than doing ‘vlog’ style videos and trying to make episodes out of whats happened in a week, regardless if it’s good content or not. By filming over a period of time I can be more selective in what goes into each video. My aim is to avoid ‘blar bar mundane’ and have at least one or two exciting and interesting events in every video. Every video has to be entertaining.
