The Tartan 37 is ours, and it’s time to celebrate! With the 4th of July arriving just days after we close on the boat, we decide it’s rather fitting to pop some bubbly and celebrate our own new-found freedom… from land! The hardest part of moving aboard is figuring out where to put our stuff. Fortunately we had already done most of our downsizing when we left California a half year prior. We learn how to cook on our alcohol stove and adjust to our “front door” raising and lowering 3 feet depending on the height of the river. Being connected to shore power makes it feel more like we’re living in a teeny tiny apartment with misshapen cabinet spaces. After a week of living on our sailboat, we start to settle in. We figure out where our new workspaces are (the salon table, the chart table) and get most of our stuff stowed away. MONTHLY EXPENSE REPORT at the end of the episode. With more rainy and overcast skies, coupled with fronts moving in, we leave our spot in picturesque Hope Town to hunker down in Marsh Harbour once more. We figure it's a great time to tackle a few projects on the boat that we've been ignoring for awhile, but need to be handled. Jessica goes to work patching our blown out headsail, which we noticed a tear in while sailing from Powell Cay to Green Turtle. The rip is in the leech of the sail just past where the new sacrificial cover was added, and needs to be repaired with some stitching and dacron tape. Matt inspects the rigging and adds some tension to areas that need to be addressed. Once our projects are done and the weather lets back up, it's off to Hope Town again, but this time under sail!! Nachdem die Boje über Bord gegangen ist fallen wir auf Halbwindkurs oder auf Raumwindkurs ab, fahren eine Q-Wende und holen die Boje nach einem Aufschießer oder mit einem Nahezuaufschießer zurück an Bord. CMS Over Complicates Portal Access

For our last day anchored in Royal Island Harbor, our friends Tom and Tammy, on Mac, offered to take us to Spanish Wells so that we could book in. The duo wanted to get some provisions and they knew we couldn’t get Britican close enough to anchor (too shallow). At 8:30 am we left Britican anchored in the harbor and the six of us set off on the Cat. What a treat we had! It was the first time I’ve enjoyed a motor and a sail on a Catamaran and it wasn’t just any Catamaran – it was an Outremere 49. Overall, I felt the boat was humungous. It felt like a floating island. But it was very stable and an extremely comfortable ride. We didn’t have many waves and the winds had died down so I can’t comment what it would be like to sail the boat in harsher conditions. Have you been waiting for us to finally start sailing? Will we be able to become better sailors? What do we need to outfit our sailboat properly? In this video we check out a beautiful undeveloped island beach called Hunting Island and then take our Moody 34 sailboat out for a day sail to practice sailing on the Coosaw River. We are in a beautiful location with a wide river to practice sailing and beautiful beaches to enjoy. There is a great group of sailors at the marina we are docked at and Vin & Amy are making some great sailing friends. Although this area would make a great base, Vin is eager to head south and enjoy the tropics before this years Atlantic Hurricane Season is upon them. Why? Because they have an opportunity to get alot of work required on their boat done if they can get her up to Annapolis by June 15th. That leaves them about 3.5 months to explore further south before turning around to haul their boat out for repairs in Annapolis. For now, they are in Beaufort S. Carolina enjoying one of the best areas they have ever visited and meeting some of the best sailors and new friends ever. We hope you enjoy this video!
