SLOW TV - Today we go a bit Brian Eno and bring you 10 minutes of pure sailing. An ambient look at Luckyfish sailing last week, in ideal conditions off the Exuma chain of islands in the Bahamas. Viewer Jim Thoreson suggested we do this for those of you who plan on getting a Wharram Tiki 38 someday... it's a chance to see what the view from the helm is like. Well, the helm normally resides in Romeo or Juliet's hands, our two wind vane self steering units. This was recorded while Juliet steered us with great accuracy on a broad reach in 17 to 23 knot winds, one reef in the mainsail, one reef in the foresail and full jib. There was little for us to do except alter the vane slightly from time to time to maintain our heading as the wind direction gradually shifted... and enjoy the ride. We hope you enjoy it too! Race 5 of the JJ Giltinan Trophy series saw the fleet of 25 boats line up for the second race of the day in light shifty winds. Maersk Line came from behind to win the race and lead the pointscore. The Time Genie was second from Finport Trade Finance in third place. Bow Caddy caught the action from the beach at Bradley’s Head.

In honor of our late Curator Carleton Pinheiro, the Herreshoff Marine Museum and Halsey C. Herreshoff hosted an evening celebrating the mighty Herreshoff racing Schooner WESTWARD and her replica, the beautiful ELEONORA. ELEONORA had graced the HMM waterfront as her home during summer of 2017. The schooner WESTWARD was launched in March 1910 as hull number 692 at the Herreshoff Manufacturing Co. and became one of the most famous racing schooners in the world. WESTWARD was undoubtedly the fastest schooner in the world in her day, and with Captain Charlie Barr at her helm, she sailed successfully against well-known yachts like BRITANNIA, LULWORTH and METEOR II winning numerous trophies. For thirty-seven years, WESTWARD graced the yachting scene and represented all that was best in yacht design and workmanship. The yacht ELEONORA, an exact replica of WESTWARD, was built at the Van der Graaf shipyard in Holland and launched in March 2000. Since then, she has successfully participated in a number of classic sailing regattas and hosted a number of high profile guests. ELEONORA shows astonishing beauty under sail, her slender hull cutting a pathway through the sea, an elegant combination of beauty and power. After 5 days in Carriacou, s/v Cloudy Bay (Hallberg-Rassy 54) moves on to Union Island, first of the St.Vincent & the Grenadines islands. We pick up a mooring buoy in Clifton Bay and have great fun kite-surfing and flying the drone over the beautiful blue bay.

After 2 days in Union Island (St. Vincent & the Grenadines), s/v Cloudy Bay (Hallberg-Rassy 54) moves 1nm east to Palm Island, a private all-inclusive resort. Pure paradise, with white sand beaches and incredibly blue turquoise sea. Perfect setting for swimming and another DJI Mavic flyover.
