After a short stay in Fourni we lift the anchor around 3am and with the wind blowing a hooley we head North to the beautiful town of Çeşme on the Turkish west coast. Having a contract with Setur certainly helps on a journey like this, we get free mooring and use of all their facilities. The town and the main marina here are lovely, so we spend most of the day sightseeing before heading back to setur marina which just happens to be part of the Altin Yunus Hotel, with a great beach and crystal clear waters. From Çeşme we continue our boat delivery, this time heading all the way to Istanbul, which of course means negotiating the famous Dardanelles and yet more night sailing. The Dardanelles are narrow and include a traffic separation zone, which we plan to transit in daylight. The amount of cargo vessels through here is incredible, which is why in 1915 the allies tried to capture Gallipoli and failed miserably with somewhere around 500,000 casualties from both sides. The current through here is strong, so that combined with a head wind makes for slow agonising progress. After the Dardanelles comes the Sea of Marmara, which was our second night sail in this 48 hour passage, and to our surprise turned out to be very quiet. Istanbul next, and yet another Setur Marina, they have two, a posh one and a everyone else one…. Guess which one we got? **WATCH CLEAR TO THE END** Today we left Cambridge Cay in the Exumas and are sailing south to Big Major's Spot near Staniel Cay and the Thunderball Grotto Caves. We had a decent day of sailing with winds blowing from the East Northeast at about 15 to 20 knots, allowing us to make great time getting to Big Major's Spot. The anchorage was full of boats when we arrived and we noticed due to the strong winds blowing from the East, that the further away from the island you anchored the more water chop you would get. We got as close to the island as we could with our 5’ draft to try to reduce the fetch, but it just wasn't as protected of a spot as our last. We got spoiled at Cambridge Cay. Upon arriving one of our friends told us via satellite communication (texting) that we were at the island with the famous swimming pigs! You would think that we would have already known that, but we didn't... at least Kenzie didn't know, so it was a fun surprise for her! The weather was overcast with wind and chop on the water, but we adventured over to the beach in the dinghy anyway. There weren't very many people at "Pig Beach" which was really nice and it was fun to meet the famous swimming pigs that we have seen in so many other people's sailing vlogs. Tomorrow is calling for sunny weather so we are planning on going back to see the pigs one more time before moving over to the Thunderball Grotto Caves. (See next weeks video) While at “Pig Beach” Kenzie was really excited to have recognized someone right away! It’s probably not obvious in our video, but you can see this person a couple of times. After watching our video, comment below to let us know if you recognized this person and tell us who YOU think he is. Then check out our INSTAGRAM to find out who WE think he is! This footage is from a few months ago while still in Lefkas. It was missed out of our main Travel and Sailing BIG blogs due to lack of time, bandwidth and disk space! We've uploaded it as a smaller microblog here because it raises important issues. Walking around beautiful wetlands on Lefkada - Greece, we found a local fly tipping spot, with trash dumped over a wide area. Everywhere we've been so far, illegal littering and dumping of household waste has been common. It was even more upsetting in this case as it was in the heart of a nature reserve on the coastline with a neighbouring a shoreline strewn with plastic pollution and marine litter. It was heartbreaking to see, but amongst all the rubbish we found a discarded bike that we decided to fix up, repair and recycle. I set up a pop up bike repair shop in the marina and in the end fixed up four bikes that winter - two from the boat and two we found dumped. It's easy to become despondent and overwhelmed when you see this sort of thing, but in this case we were able to put a tiny dent in the problem by recovering bikes amongst the trash.. and recycled them for less than €50! Sailing Escape - Episode 1 - Haulout, Survey & Work done
We depart for New Providence which is the Island on which Nassau resides. Not wanting to deal with the crime and traffic at the city, however, so we anchor in a calm anchorage on the other side of the island. The only problem is, there is little access to civilization and we need to get some food. We pick up anchor and move to a different section that is closer to what we need. Herby changes the water filter for our sink and we make some new bread! #bahamas #nassau For painting commissions: artisticeyestudio@gmail.com Our Swag: https://teespring.com/stores/rigging-doctor Support us on Patreon: http://www.patreon.com/riggingdoctor Follow us on Instagram: http://www.instagram.com/riggingdoctor Check out our website: http://www.riggingdoctor.com Music: Music provided by Bensound http://www.bensound.com Music: Music provided by Spike https://www.youtube.com/spikesvibes https://soundcloud.com/spikes-vibes

Quito is a big city, far too big to explore in only a few short days but that doesn’t stop us from trying. Then, it’s back on the road and to the Volcanoes we go! We continue our crossing of the infamous Bay of Biscay. All goes really well until it doesn´t anymore. After fixing what was broken we continue sailing in to Spain and finally make landfall after four days and about 500 nautical miles. It is an amazing feeling to acomplish such a journey and we where feeling very proud of ourselves. Spain did not disapoint us but let´s save that for a future episode as there is much more to tell as you see in the very end of the video! We sail Keeldragger, a Pacific Seacraft Dana 24, from Dana Point, California to Two Harbors, Catalina Island. Although there is a Small Craft Advisory, winds are light for most of the trip to the island (building later in the afternoon). We spot several Dolphins, including Risso's Dolphins, and a Mola Mola. Fortunately, we were able to get a mooring at the Isthmus without having a reserveration (the captain fell asleep before booking and they sold out for the Holiday weekend). We enjoyed a few drinks on the island, went for a snorkeling adventure, had a cookout in the campgrounds, and had a lot of fun hanging out with our friends from Ohana, a Cal 27-2. Our trip home to Dana Point was pleasant, and we were excited to see a whale. The jury is still out--Fin whales were recently spotted but this whale seemed a bit smaller. Perhaps it was a juvenile or a Minke. Sorry for the poor audio at times..... I'll upgrade to a better mic in the future... I promise! Amazingly, I have been given photographs of Tally Ho high and dry on the reef, taken from the boat that towed her to safety! Because of the accident, part of the hull was rebuilt, but unfortunately not to the original lines. I assess the change in shape, do a little bit of lofting, and remove a lot of hull planks to give me space to rebuild the boat back into her original shape. Progress would be painfully slow if not for the Gulf Stream current pushing us along at two or three knots. Approaching Cape Hatteras we are moving at speeds in excess of nine knots by the GPS.
I've had a lot of people ask to get more info on the Maxwell RC 10-8 windlass install so here it is. I also included a quick trip over to Port Edward for a half haul out. Safe sailing. Boat: White Shadow is a Van De Stadt ‘Seal’ 36 (11 metres). She is hand made in steel, 2004, with a round bilge (hull) and a modified coach roof. This makes her a ‘one off’ and in my opinion the most beautiful Van De Stadt 36 ever built. The camera gear: Main camera is a Panasonic Hc-v700. Most shots are done with an external mic (Shenggu sg 108) with a sponge and dead kitten attached. Action stuff and small blogging is done with a Sony Hdr-as30v. Underwater video Gopro3plus. Editing: Final cut pro on a Macbook. Most of the material for each video is filmed over a period of several weeks or so and the editing of each episode is normally done over a day. This process can take longer if original music is used or permissions are needed for copyrighted materials etc. Much time is spent sorting out technical problems. In this case I normally get the help of a younger person who understands computerie stuff! There are also times when filming, editing and uploading is not possible due to being at sea or in locations with no internet access. Content: I have found that filming and releasing material over a period of time is better than doing ‘vlog’ style videos and trying to make episodes out of whats happened in a week, regardless if it’s good content or not. By filming over a period of time I can be more selective in what goes into each video. My aim is to avoid ‘blar bar mundane’ and have at least one or two exciting and interesting events in every video. Every video has to be entertaining. Comments and being at sea: I love reading your comments. Most weeks Im able to read everyone. I cant reply to everybody but I do read and enjoy them. Keep them coming! There are times that It might seem I'm not on the internet for certain periods, this is normally when Im at sea on passage. While Im out on the Ocean I have completely no communications with the outside World.
