Have you ever wondered how to make your brightwork shine, like you see on those showboat magazines? Do you want to know how to varnish like the pros, or better yet, make it look 95% with 65% of that effort? This weeks episode is about 2 things we are doing on the boat that leads to a lesson of how to varnish. We are sanding down the walls of the Salon and the coach house is getting new paint. With that, it is getting close to time to install all the trim, handrails, hatch frames and other teak accessories that will keep our classic sailboat looking classic. So sit back and enjoy this how-to video on varnishing tips and tricks. How to varnish a boat, how to restore your teak or other hardwoods, how to make wood look like glass and a little discovery about a GREAT stainless steel polish. We also cover a great product that we tested on polishing the stainless steel handrail mounts from an old cruise ship in Indonesia. My words of guidance for folks are don't always look for new materials for your boat. Sometimes you can find great things that are recycled from other ships or boats and help to make yours even more nautical. That is what we thought when we found these stairwell handrails that came off of a cruise ship that had been decommissioned and sold for scrap in Indonesia. We saw them and thought that with a very slight bit of work, protection, and creativity, they would become the handrails that you can use when walking down the side decks of the boat from the cockpit to the deck. They will mount on the roof of the coach house just below waist high. Duke wakes up to a calm but rainy Herring Bay in the Chesapeake Bay, near Fairhaven, Maryland. The wind is light and blowing from the north, so Duke ends up motoring the entire day, passing Annapolis, MD and under the Chesapeake Bay Bridge Tunnel, and tying up for the night at Mears Great Oak Landing Marina in Chestertown, MD. Why not select a 90-degree tack, or 100, or 110, or 130 degree tack? Who jibes 90 degrees each time? Why not do the jibe you want, of 40, or 80, or 120 degrees? Is is very easy to hit a single button numerous times. It's easier than having to look at the control head in an active seaway and hit two buttons simultanously for an "automatic tack" written by a software engineer. Isn't it?

Episode 31 - We start prepping the yacht from some paint which entailed a lot of sanding and vacuuming. -We finally get done putting in the rest of our head. She is not complete! YAY!!!! -We have some awesome subscribers come visit us and treated us to a delicious lunch. (Thanks Basil, Kim, Simon & David for the visit it was great meeting you) -Since it was world oceans day we decided to partake in cleaning up one of the beaches here in Port Elizabeth. It was a lovely day and felt great to see how beautiful and clean the beach was once the event was over. We spent a lovely day on the beach as well as went to go watch a movie but the weekend was completed with some great MEXICAN food! :) -It was time to clean up all the dust and wipe down the yacht interior for some paint. As well as taping up the windows so that we could still epoxy in our window frames. - The painting begins! I apply the 5. and 6. coat of primer and before I apply the 7. coat I mount the rubber sleeve by the S-drive. The sleeve is mounted with Tec7 which should be ideal for the purpose. After the Tec7 is dry I apply the 7. coat of epoxy primer but have some problems with the starboard waterline, it is totaly crooked so I try to correct it using UV-masking tape. After my little problem I prepare for the Hempel Mille Xtra antifouling
