With only a few days left in Malta before crossing to Sicily, we start saying goodbye to all the amazing people we met during our stay. On the morning we were set to leave the yacht club we accidentally get salt water in our fuel tank, which becomes an entire ordeal trying to sort out parts and install a water separator to stop it from going through our engine. Ryan manages to quickly install it and then we are on our way to Comino and the northern tipi of Malta to relax and soak up the last few days in Malta! On our approach, about 36 hours from making landfall, we realize at our current speed we'll make a midnight arrival. Slowing ourselves down by only sailing with a reefed headsail, we try to keep a speed of 4 knots to make sure we won't arrive before sunrise. We also begin to encounter all kinds of ship traffic, but mostly fishing vessels which continue to cut back and forth across our path in the middle of the night. We experience a little more heavy weather on our last full day at sea....with some more big waves that are having fun tossing us around. But...we finally make landfall just at sunrise and have beautiful views as we motor into the harbor of Crosshaven. Our arrival deserved a fine Irish welcome, so we celebrated that night with Irish sirloin steaks and cold Guinness to drink.

In this episode we sailed from Aruba and to Cartagena had over 56 knots in the gusts and massive waves outside of Santa Marta. We dropped our anchor in the night in 40-50 knots, quite challenging. Next day we docked the boat in the Marina with 40 knots in the gusts. Very happy we managed that with out any accident. We really loved Columbia, very nice and friendly people. Santa Marta was awesome. And we had a lot of fun in Cartagena. Very nice city with a lot of culture. Then we drives up in the mountains to Menka and swam in waterfalls. The opening day of the 44Cup Marstrand World Championship 2019 was one of exceptional sailing conditions in 15 knot winds, under brilliant sunshine and usually on top of a short, sharp chop making for an exhilarating, if wet ride for the nine crews competing. Despite the relatively stable conditions it was an unusually high scoring day for all but Hugues Lepic’s Aleph Racing. Winner of the last 2019 44Cup event in Rovinj, Croatia in May, the French team claimed the opening race after winning the start and making the most of the favourable left. However in the next two races they had to fight back from poor starts. However with no score worse than a fifth, Aleph Racing leads the World Championship after day one. Marstrand, Sweden is the third event of the 2019 44Cup which pits the world's top businessmen and the best sailors in the industry compete in high-performance one-design 44-foot carbon racing yachts. The Marquesas Islands group is just incredible! The fish are huge and taking them to the beach to share for a BBQ is the best. We are in one of the most remote islands in the world, lying about 852 mi (1,370 km) northeast of Tahiti and about 3,000 mi (4,800 km) away from the west coast of Mexico, the nearest continental land mass. Unlike the majority of French Polynesian islands, the Marquesas are not surrounded by protective fringing reefs. These volcanic mountains rise straight out of the depths and are just plain stunning! It's so fun having friends with us and we hope you enjoy watching us explore Tahiti. Nikau. We are a family of 5. Our 3 kids are doing NZ correspondence school on board. They are growing to love it! What's not to love about 3 hours of school a day and then a different playground for the afternoon every day! We've traveled from New Zealand to Sardinia in Italy to pick up our boat and we plan over a few seasons to sail her back to New Zealand. We hope you enjoy following us on our adventures! After visiting Guernsey we returned to relax for a bit in Alderney .. and as we enjoyed this Island so much. Next, we hopped back to Cherbourg to fix up some engine issues and to pick up our reprogrammed EPRIB. Finally, we were able to leave Cherbourg and we set off to cross the English Channel for the first time. While on the road, Dawn was adding a few more thousand electric car charging hotels to her EVHOTELS.org app. It's now looking really good!! Electric cars should start total off very soon!

Jetzt geht unser Weg weiter richtung Westen. Die nächsten 2 1/2 Jahre werden wir nutzen um den Pazifik zu durchqueren, den indonesischen Raum zu erkunden und letztendlich nach der Umrundung des Kap der guten Hoffnungen wieder Fuß auf europäisches Land zu setzen.
