Since the Class’s on the water debut in June, sailors have had their eyes set on this premier event and making their mark on the its history. In this episode we take you with us on our planned 12 day offshore sailing passage from the Bahamas, headed north. We begin by sailing off anchor and face calm conditions initially, though soon afterwards strong winds have us reefing down the mainsail. As we navigate the gulf stream we spend time considering our route options and evaluate conflicting weather models. And as the days tick by we begin to experience issues with a critical piece of equipment - Our autopilot. Del 1 gjordes 2 veckor tidigare, nu 2019-09-12 avgick jag och Julia från Gävle mot Söderköping/Mem (Göta Kanal start). Vädret var fint från Gävle men utanför Nynäshamn mitt i natten började det blåsa rejält, så vi skyndade oss in i Nynäshamns gästhamn. Tanken var att vi skulle gå direkt morgonen efter men ett rejält oväder drog in söderifrån med klass 1 varning 18-24m/s så vi stannade en dag. Göta Kanal var bokat med expresspass så personal väntade på oss. Vi avgick 1 dygn senare trots en mindre klass 1 varning 14-17m/s men det gick bra, typ.. Sedan skulle Göta kanal stänga Bergs trappor pga RedBull event så vi var tvungna att göra 30 slussar och en rejält lång tur på kanalen. Entramos em Camamu com a ideia de jogar a âncora e ficar por lá pelo menos 20 dias. O lugar é tão lindo que merecia uma parada diferenciada. A princípio, mais uma ancoragem em rio, com maré enchendo e vazando e tivemos nosso primeiro encalhe (pensando bem, já tínhamos encalhado em Rio Grande). Mas dessa vez nós, que estávamos muito perto do mangue encalhamos e o Gentileza que tinha jogado 40 metros de corrente girou e veio pra cima do Barba Negra. Como ele tinha chegado primeiro, mudamos a ancoragem para mais pra trás. Lugares onde ficamos mais tempo nos permitem ter uma rotina a bordo: acordar, tomar café olhando o mangue, fazer algum trabalho no barco, ir para o barco de algum amigo tomar outro café da manhã (ou fazer uma romaria de cafés da manhã em vários barcos) e combinar o almoço ou algum barzinho mais tarde. Nossos dias foram assim, pura tranquilidade e alegria. Fizemos um churrasco na casa do André, que abriu as portas para a Farofeno, colheu cocos dos coqueiros para nos dar, nos levou para conhecer Taipu... É claro que quem vive uma vida como a nossa é um apaixonado pela natureza. Mas o que me encanta mesmo são as pessoas! Como a gente encontra gentileza nos lugares, quanta receptividade! É claro que nem tudo são flores. Tomamos um baita susto quando ladrões invadiram o Guruçá para roubar dinheiro. Foi uma situação horrível! Eu dormi trancada todos os dias e, cada vez que o Sergio saía eu ficava trancada quando estava sozinha! Mas aos poucos essa sensação de vulnerabilidade e insegurança foram passando. Fomos esquecendo enquanto observávamos as revoadas de pássaros e organizávamos churrascos na prainha do canal. Fiz meu primeiro aniversário a bordo. Passei o dia um pouco melancólica, pensando na família que estava longe e nos amigos que gostaria que também estivessem por perto. Mas minha melancolia ficou para trás quando vi as pessoas se mobilizando para fazer bolo e organizar os ingredientes das pizzas com todo carinho. Que noite deliciosa!!! O Barba Negra atingiu sua lotação máxima: 25 pessoas. Era preciso escolher entre ficar lá dentro ou lá fora, não dava para trançar pra lá e pra cá... Mas no dia seguinte, uma nova ameaça no rádio falando para deixarmos o canal. Pode ser que tenha sido uma brincadeira de mau gosto, mas assustados, decidimos deixar Camamu depois de um almoço rápido no Campinho. Uma pena.

We go for a walk around Barcelona and then head north to the French Alps. From here we travel through Switzerland and get to the German border. We’ve pulled the kids from school and are home schooling while on the road and the water. We spend time aboard our 34ft sailing boat in NZ and have bought a motorhome in Europe so as to tour the other side of the world. We’re keeping our memories on video here and the kids write narration and play guitars so we have music to use in the videos.
