Here is my first ride this winter in the woods near from my home. Frozen soil and cold weather made the passage on water spots easier, but I got to be careful... some passages were too crazy and I kept a really slow speed. This run is a little bit more than 2 km long. I was not longer able to ride in the field! Filmed with a Gopro Hero8 Black - 2.7K 30fps

Was this the most stupid or awesome thing we’ve ever done? We can’t decide. On a 1200 Mile sailing passage from Tahiti to Niue, the weather swings and we have a tricky decision to make. We choose to divert our course to a remote atoll to the extreme West of French Polynesia. Maupihaa, otherwise known as Mopelia seems like a god place to hang out and wait for our weather window. The entrance to the island is a narrow and intimidating pass with a strong current. We have no way of accessing the tide information so just have to chance it and hope the current isn’t too strong to overpower us. Scary stuff, guys.  Diving on the anchor, we are visited by a shark, barracuda and eagle ray which tells us we’re probably going to like it here. Yup, we’re in for a treat. Between exploring the empty beaches and freediving the pass we are gobsmacked by the incredible nature this untouched island has to offer. How to do the Simplest Man Overboard (MOB) Recovery Procedure. There are several methods to recover a crew who has fallen overboard. In this episode we cover the simplest method we know: putting a boat into 360 degree turns while the skipper sorts things out. We use the traditional and widely accepted term of Man Overboard (rather than alternatives such as Crew Overboard), regardless of sex. A critical part of this method is pulling in the mainsheet. Read on. If you would like added benefits such as a live chat session each month with James and the crew, plus free swag, consider becoming a Patron. We would greatly appreciate it! Link is here: https://www.patreon.com/sailingvirgins The initial response to someone falling overboard is common to all MOB recoveries (0:51): 1. Point at the casualty - keep pointing until they are back on the boat; 2. Yell "Man Overboard!"; 3. Throw a flotation device such as a horseshoe or a Danbuoy; 4. Potentially make a Mayday call; 5. Press the MOB button on the plotter. Here is the recovery procedure covered in this episode shown at 1:35: 1. Sail two boatlengths. This usually equates to a 2-3 deep breaths; 2. Turn the boat into the wind. Keep the boat on this hard lock; 3. Immediately pull in the main sheet when you are into the wind. That's it. Sailing two boatlengths will ensure the boat doesn't run over the casualty. Turning the boat into the wind (crash tack and holding that turn) means the boat will do 360s. Pulling in the mainsheet is essential, as this ensures the gybes are controlled. We then bring the boat so it is two boatlengths upwind of the casualty, and with some reverse cancelling out the forward of the (now stalling) mainsheet, we aim to pick the casualty up from the shrouds. In our example Beverley is not wearing a deckvest when she picks up the casualty. She should be. That's our fault (not Beverley's). We still thought this is worth showing. The rest of the episode has us climbing Petit Piton on the beautifully verdant island of St Lucia. We pass this island during one of our Island Adventures. We always love St Lucia. Our head sail has three rips in it! This is the process of getting a new head sail. We've done so much work with engines, fiberglass and basic boat construction, that we've spent relatively little time improving our rig and sails. Our jib has deteriorated to the point to where we were forced to start looking into a replacement. This is when we found with Precision Sails. They're an "remote" sailmaker which works well with our on the move lifestyle. They've made the process of figuring out exactly how to acquire a new sail less daunting. We're happy to be working with them on this sail. Also, they are having a Black Friday sale. Link is below! https://www.precisionsailloft.com/ The Black Friday Sale (Save up to 40% on new sails) will be running from the 25-29th of November, but they strongly suggest people get quotes early so they have time to think about the options. Season 5 Episode 97: Good bye Washington hello Oregon On this weeks episode we depart La Push and hand steer for 13 hours to the notorious Columbia Bar and finally into Astoria, Oregon! GOONIES NEVER SAY DIE Our electrical problems seemed to be the governor on the Generator, which we didn't fix but managed to work out a sketchy system of drawing down the power as it produced too much then slowly turning things off as it dropped.... we did this for 7 more days. Once in Astoria we spent the night and first thing the next morning we spent hours on the phone with the Garmin Tech and he got our autopilot all worked out!!!!!! Then we went exploring Astoria! If this is the first Yacht Delivery Chronicles video you have seen heres a little bit of background of what this Season and miniseries is all about. This new season follows James and Camille on a delivery onboard a 74ft Power Yacht they were hired to crew on under then command of Captain Dave Stovall. The delivery which was planned for 9 days took 16 days due to failing boat systems and rough spring weather on the coast of the Pacific Northwest.
