Sailing the Mediterranean in March means you have the place to yourself, but the weather can catch you out! We have sea fog & strong winds but some good sailing along the coast of Spain and into the Mar Menor inland sea. It's good to be back at anchor and with our new electric outboard there's far less swearing from Steve before we manage to set off! In this episode we leave our winter base in Cartagena heading East deeper into the Med. We finish our long list of winter boat jobs, we talk to a family who, inspired by YouTube sailing channels, bought a catamaran and are now sailing the world with their 17 year old daughter who is 'home schooling' aboard the boat. We anchor out in the Mar Menor hiding from gale force winds and experience life in the Mediterranean without the crowds, in fact we're the only boat out here! ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ You Tube are now putting mid -role adds on videos, but there is a way to see the current videos with no adds at all before they get released to the public. By becoming an honorary member of crew and joining our Patreon group you will have three or four days to see the latest video before anyone else with no adds, as we have demonetised the videos before general release. With the children leaving home we decided to sell our house in the UK and buy a boat in Holland. After two years refitting our Hans Christian 48T we have now set off a world voyage. We are retiring early because we want to attempt this voyage in good health and while we're fit and strong enough to really enjoy it. We will have to work a bit as we go until we can draw our pensions and we honestly don't know how well that will work. In our real lives we are journalists and filmmakers so it was only natural for use to document our travels by filming the journey. We aim to produce a professional standard vlog of the whole trip and try to give the viewer a real insight into what it's like to live and travel on a 48 foot sailboat. Our first aim is to sail South. After a winter getting iced in on the Markermeer in the Netherlands Judy insisted on warmer weather! So if you start from Episode 1 you will see us setting off from Eastbourne in the UK and travelling along the South Coast to Plymouth to enter a rally called ARC Portugal. Our first goal is to reach the Mediterranean and that means sailing across the infamous Bay of Biscay. This was a very good test for our boat as the bay lived up to it's fearsome reputation and split the whole fleet with a force 10 storm. Storm Miguel cut through our path and meant we had to run to mainland Spain to escape the massive seas and fearsome winds. Six boats couldn't make it in time and spent several very uncomfortable days at sea. The fleet had several broken boats, but thankfully no injured people. And this was just Episode 2! The excitement continued for the rest of our trip to the Med. Dolphins played in our bow wave, we sampled fantastic local foods and wines, great port in Porto! We found some beautiful anchorages and visit some wonderful historic places like Lisbon in Portugal, Cadiz in Spain and the fascinating port of Gibraltar. We will show you what it's like to winter in the Mediterranean, how much it all costs and give hints and tips on where to go how to save money with your boat and the places you stay. We are also talking to other sailors. After years of broadcasting journalism we know how to get peoples stories and we regularly film other sailors to show their boats and lifestyle as well as ours. We can always learn from others. Our long term plan is to spend a few years in the Mediterranean, on our list of place we want to visit are; Mallorca, Malta, Corsica, Sardinia, Sicily, Greece, Turkey, Croatia, Montenegro, Albania, Italy, Tunisia, to name but a few! When we feel we've seen the best of what the Med has to offer we will cross the Atlantic to the Caribbean, the Pacific and beyond! #sailingfairisle

Welcome to our channel and a glimpse into our life adventure! 2020 was a year of uncertainty and change (for all of us, right?), but we overcame the challenges and decided it was time to chase our dream, to sail around the world! Did I mention that we had very NO sailing experience? Before leaving Qingdao, China, our home of 4 years, we sold almost all of our earthly possessions and started our international search to find the right sailboat that we would call "home." After 5 months of unanticipated twists and turns, we found what we were looking for, a used Leopard 44' Catamaran located in St. Lucia. So, here begins our journey, filled with unmatched excitement and honestly, a bit of trepidation as well. We have much to learn as we travel the world on our floating home and we intend to document that journey and share it with you. We are so glad you have decided to join us, and we hope that you will find our story so compelling that it will inspire you to chase your dreams too! As a viewer, we consider you to be part of our family and look forward to getting to know you. Don't hesitate to comment on our videos and ask questions. We will do our best to answer every correspondence! All we ask is that you have patience with us as we work really hard to improve our camera/video techniques and ability to tell a story. E buon appettito

Amazing native birds and the lighthouse on Tiritiri Matangi Island, NZ and Blake learns to surf Ep 5
Blake and Toby go searching for native New Zealand birds on Tiritiri Matangi Island (Tiri) and find a fernbird, whitehead, hihi (stitchbird) and a kereru (wood pigeon). Tiritiri Island is located in the Hauraki Gulf, Auckland New Zealand and was once a farm. Over the past 30 years volunteers and Doc have planted thousands of trees, eradicated the pests and developed a nature reserve where approximately 100 different types of birds are thriving, including approximately 10 different types of NZ native birds. Blake and Toby also walk up to the lighthouse, it was once considered to be the brightest in the world. After visiting Tiritiri Matangi Island, Blake learns to surf on his new surfboard for his 7th birthday. He has a couple of big slams surfing the waves before catching a great wave at the end! We are two brothers, aged 4 and 7, who love going on sailing family adventures - exploring the outdoors and finding super cool wild animals, bugs and marine life. So along with our parents, we’re sailing the world, exploring islands, and looking for interesting wildlife. We start our adventure sailing New Zealand but dream of sailing around the Mediterranean some day. We love our planet and want to look after our environment, so through our travels we hope other kids will feel inspired to care for our planet and wildlife too. It’s been a while since our last video update, and to be honest, it’s been busy! After Christmas in Norway, Captain Cody goes back to our sailboat Vinyasa in Charleston, SC, to prepare her and solo sail her down to Florida, before gaining a crew member and sailing across to the Bahamas! Therese is still in Norway, working her butt of, and is not physically a part of this journey. During his 5 weeks alone, you’ll see Cody talk to himself, go a little bit crazy (should probably have had his own “Wilson”-ball), fish, meet dolphins… and MORE dolphins… actually – probably THE BIGGEST DOLPHIN POD ever seen! It’s good to be back though, and finally be cruising again… marina life ain’t for us! So follow our upcoming Bahamas adventure as we navigate through, for us, unknown territory. Well dang we're back again with ANOTHER half hour of this guy rambling in his living room about SCUBA diving North Monastery Beach. What compelled him to make these videos? Not exactly sure. Is he asking his friends to watch them and give him feedback and shuddering with embarrassment every step of the way? Absolutely. But if you're in this description reading this, please enjoy a recap of my dive with Ocean Phil before I got super sick and he went to Mexico! Highlights? A short one hour sail brings us to the amazing Deveaux Bank. It started out only as sand spit and over the years has gradually grown. Every so many years, they do Beach renurturing on Kiawah Island, where they deposit tons of sand onto an eroding beach. Natural forces work to then erode that new sand and it is carried away by the water and is slowly depositing itself on Deveaux Bank. We expect soon that Deveaux Bank will be joined to the neighboring Botany Island. Already at low tide, you can walk between the two. And while this is all happening, horseshoe crabs continue on their natural ways, taking advantage of the pure beach sand for some “recreation”. These animals have been around for millions of years, and continue to thrive in this area in the Ace Basin of South Carolina, one of the most active areas in the world for biodiversity. Back on the boat, we love to watch the water splashing over the bow and the hulls as PILAR slices through the water. The view, the sound and the feel of the water underneath are unbeatable. Night time brings flounder gigging at certain times of the year. Summer 2019, we welcomed a 74 Sunreef to Bohicket Marina called Amelie. She quickly became the most admired boat on the dock. We were also joined by another Leopard48, and we docked back to back for many months. We were the entertainment for the dock walkers who loved to watch us dock our boats in the 7 knot currents into the inside slips. Celebrations include our very own PILAR rum! Feeling like blue crab? We catch our own, clean them, cook them, and turn them into crab cakes. An occasional afternoon thunderstorm brings a little excitement with it. Friends and charter guests join us at times. Shannon and Greg brought King Crab legs straight from his recent flight from Alaska (as an UPS pilot). So, of course we had to make sure they caught some fish while aboard. Pauline and Bill joined us for our weekend sail to Charleston and our stop at Driftwood Beach. Spending time with our granddaughter on the boat, we were treated to an Eagle’s nest viewing as well as Dolphins strand feeding - a rare occurrence only in a few spots in the world. Summer 2019 we sailed to Southport and Bald Head Island NC for a month, then Hurricane Dorian sent us scrambling back to port at Bohicket. Our usually calm inlet surprised us with crashing waves during our approach. We secured the boat well and survived unscathed. As the weather grows cooler, we do some oystering, harvesting enough for dinner. There is something magical about enjoying oysters you just took from the sea. Kat and Jim from the “other” 48Leopard even came along. When our guest Joanna joined in October, we enjoyed more oystering, horseback riding along the beach, catching smoke on the water one cold morning, experimenting with our camera drone, and paddle boarding with our new boards. Some of the lovely people who've been watching our videos recommended this company 'Tek Tanks' for potentially helping us with the replacement of our 35yr old, stainless steel water tanks which have failed. So, we thought we'd see how good the Youtube comments really are and check the company out for ourselves. To cut a long story short, the guys at Tek Tanks were amazingly helpful and you can see their passion for what they do as soon as you walk into their showroom and workshop. They're very hands on and helped us with all of our questions that kept coming up, and they even fixed a fitting that I clumsily broke, at no charge, they just sent the new fitting out the next day. Awesome company! You can find their website here: https://www.tek-tanks.com
We get kidnapped by locals and are taken hostage by the most charming villagers. From the secluded bay, we attempt to walk to the village. It's supposed to be an hour's walk. For us it was a lot more because we did not know the way, and the girls get lost. We also hang out with a modern adventure family lead by The Captain whom live on two boats in their hidden cove. In the end the girls get rescue and find their way back to the village where I'm waiting hosted by the most wonderful family. This is a story of genuinely good people with huge heart, which touch my heart profoundly. #lostgirls #bestanchorages #friendlypeople Some say it’s The Best Sailing Channel on YouTube! Highlight video of the Hunter 340 "Sunspot Baby" and crew sailing in the Peanut Regatta of Waterford #5 sailboat race on Galveston Bay on March 8, 2020. Eight boats raced, seven finished, pursuit start, about nine nautical mile race. 15 to 25 knot winds, great crew and awesome time on the bay!

Sooo.... What is it *really* like to live on a boat? As a liveaboard cruising couple, sailing around the world, and living on a boat full time, we're often asked about our sailing lifestyle. We've done a few 'Living On A Boat' episodes before, but this week we're doing something different: instead of documenting a fun, exciting day full of activities, we're showing you the realities of living on a boat. Not every day is full of adventure- in fact, most days we're just about staying on top of our chores and the daily jobs we need to do to look after ourselves and our boat. So, that's this week's episode! We hope you enjoy 😊 The equipment we use: Panasonic Lumix G85 https://amzn.to/2FsC2Kc Go Pro Hero 7 Black https://amzn.to/2SRTWtF DJI Mavic Pro 2 https://amzn.to/2D6nZbs DJI Spark https://amzn.to/2VQIal3 Manfrotto Pixie https://amzn.to/2RJbCud Manfrotto Smooth head tripod https://amzn.to/2snTJCQ DJI Osmo 2 https://amzn.to/2D7e9Go Lowepro Passport 3 https://amzn.to/2FnGef8 All this equipment has been tried and tested in the field and we love it! Stay tuned for a SPECIAL video on Friday where we reveal our BIG NEWS!! This week's episode lands us in our favorite place of Scotland by far, Lochaline inside the Sound of Mull. If you wanted to know our favorite place in Scotland, we absolutely fell in love with a small fjord called Lochaline, on the Sound of Mull. It was recommended to us by a friend as a great hurricane hole, and since there were heavy winds on the way, we decided to check it out. What we were not expecting was the sheer beauty around us. Settling in to a glass calm anchorage at the height of the fall color change, we were anchored next to a prestigious manor and sheep that grazed along the waterfront. There were so many hiking trails to chose from, and one of our favorites lead out into the Sound of Mull to a set of castle ruins. We even had a number of sheep to accompany us along the way. Bottom line, if you're ever in the area, make a stop here. We promise you will not regret it. *Sorry for the poor audio quality in the second half of the video. We were having issues with the audio of our primary camera, and went to shooting everything with our GoPro Hero5. Much love from Scotland! Jessica, Matt & Georgie Thank you SO MUCH to our Patrons. We have a great overnight sail from Belize's Blue Hole to Roatan, Honduras where we will spend several relaxing days waiting for a weather window to carry us on towards Cartagena, Colombia. On our sail we land a beautiful yellow fin Tuna and have loads of fun trying to reeling it in. Roatan turned out to be amazing, and is a world leader in diving and reef life so we get out our gear for our first solo scuba dive, as well as doing plenty of free diving at the numerous outstanding reef locations. We also spend a few of our days exploring the island by foot, car, and scooter. Thanks for watching and remember to subscribe, and maybe even consider becoming a patreon to help us keep this channel afloat, so to speak :) DON'T FORGET TO SUBSCRIBE & CONSIDER BECOMING OUR PATRON.
