Finally with boarders being easier to cross we move into a fresh new coastline and country that has been just out of reach for the past six months, Sitting in St Vincent peering at these unattainable island sanctuaries has been the source of our frustration for so long but finally in this episode we are allowed to enter our long awaited dream. The nine mile sail goes quite quick with having 17 to 20 knots of true wind coming from behind us and we make short work of putting our anchor down and checking in. After a couple of days with the constant seasonal squalls we eventually get out of the boat and explore the island haven of "Sandy Island" just off Carriacou. No sooner had we made up our minds on setting sail and heading east, then we bared witness to a horrible sight. A totally crippled sailing yacht gets dismasted just outside Dartmouth and limps back into the marina. This episode is also going to be a bit different in that we are doing a bit of a one off and sharing this leg of the adventure with no music! Returning from Galveston, we celebrated Halloween on our Catalina 42 with some catlike reflex costume changes. It was a special Halloween in that it was a full moon which hasn’t happened since 1944 (fact checked), a blue moon and time to turn the clocks back an hour. Had some good winds and did some great sailing. Included an unstaged tour of Cakewalk. It was a fun and great weekend sail with the exception of breaking the Dutchman system. What the flake, now our mainsail only does half a flake. Older sailors don't have a clew when to quit; they just keep lubing their winches. Thank you to our subscribers! We appreciate your support. A lot happens in this week's episode! I guess Adam summed it up in this episode when we said that there was lots of things to do on the boat that he kept starting, and not finishing... so instead he had a haircut! But our main problem of the hour was a broken outboard. We got straight to work fixing our outboard problem and figured out that when we hit a rock in the murky by of St George, it broke the propeller. Finding a new propeller on the island wasn't as easy as we thought so close-enough would have to do. We then moved onto what we were meant to be doing! After storing our flexible solar panels in our v-berth during a spell of rain, we finally got to work installing them...and making a new bimini roof for them! Many days (and much unpicking later), we got the new soft roof and solar panels on. Episode #161 : Sailing Dreams : SET THE STEP Hello Friends, On this weeks episode we show you a few of the steps we took to making the the new mast step, as I have mentioned in other episodes in this series, we did not film this in my typical "how to" style as we were had to complete this entire project in 5 days time including pulling and stepping the mast, which only gave me 3 days to actually cut out the old, build and install the new step. I got the step sealed in 2 coats of epoxy resin followed by 2 laters of mat glass on the bottom and 4 layers of glass on the top. The step was adhered below with thickened epoxy and tabbed onto the hull with the top 4 layers. I also over drilled holes where the lag screws would go to fasten down he mast step and filled them with thickened epoxy before adding the 4 layers of glass. This gave us impenetrable sleeves for the lag screws to live in preventing water ingress in the future when or if the sealant breaks down, which is what I am certain was the cause of the original mast step failure. We've been onboard our Leopard 40 sailing catamaran for about 3 months and we are starting to get comfortable. So much so that it's time for our dinghy to get her name! Jes breaks out the crafty side of her personality and we get to explore anouther wonderful small town - Belhaven, NC. Belhaven is the birthplace of the Atlantic Instracoastal Waterway because the last piece to be completed was the Pungo-Alligator River Canal, whose mouth is about 3 miles from Belhaven. Canfield then decided to go back for another try at a penalty. Williams, on port, attempted to wipe Canfield by sailing below the commentary boat. Canfield, holding starboard, appeared to try and put his bow between the commentary boat and Williams. But his bow seemed to hit Williams's at about the traveler and spun Williams bow into the commentary boat. “The guys onboard were telling me to back off. I saw an opportunity and went for it,” said Canfield. “I hate hitting boats, but felt like there was no way to avoid it. He got another penalty and a three-quarter point penalty. Everyone makes mistakes and this time he made the mistake.”

I used Sandiline drysuit and it kept me dry and warm. I had many thermal clothes under it. The season is beginning to change in the Bahamas where we've been spending our time during the pandemic. In this episode we move out of our anchorage at Double Breasted Cay for the first time in 40 days, a new record for us! We're headed to a birthday party with our friend, a Bahamian native who happens to be the head of the Royal Bahamian Defense Force. The other reason we've moved is to pick up a massive order we've placed with the mailboat - Two members of our crew have decided to get married so we're planning a wedding! We waste no time preparing for the ceremony using palm fronds and other items found mostly on the beach. We shared so much as friends during our time together during a global pandemic, and having an experience so intense end in the marriage between two of us, really was like something out of a storybook. We held the ceremony on a white sand beach and the reception at the Two Titty Yacht Club or TTYC. One of our C Crew members is actually a pastor. We had some musicians amongst the group including us, Bill and Grace, who played and sang at the beautiful ceremony. Finally, this episode ends with the dismantling of the TTYC - Both a poignant and surreal moment for the group. English text below Catamaran Javerne autour du monde, Cette semaine nous remontons la côte ouest de l'île de Sumatra en direction de Sabang, île se trouvant à la pointe nord de Sumatra, et dernière destination en Indonésie. Nous y allons, car la période de mousson se termine, et le vent est en train de changer de direction. Nous avions du sud-ouest, et le vent passe au nord-est, ce qui rend la remontée plus pénible. Nous sommes donc en pleine période de transition, et les vents sont capricieux. Donc pas mal de navigation, une chasse aux charançons, l'eau de mer qui a décidé de se mélanger avec l'huile d'un sail-drive. Le tout entrecoupé de navigation, d'humour, et de beaux paysages. We are going there, because the monsoon period is ending, and the wind is changing direction. We were from the southwest, and the wind is shifting to the northeast, which makes the ascent more difficult. We are therefore in the midst of a period of transition, and the winds are capricious. In part seventeen of this series on how to build a wooden Snipe class sailboat I show how to make splash guards that mount on the foredeck of the boat. I start off by making a template, and then rough cut the splash guards out of some cherry left over from making the rub rails. Next I show how to scribe the splash guards and fit them to the foredeck. Then I make a center support and show how to calculate the bevels where the guards meet the support. Vivo la maggior parte del mio tempo in barca a vela e mi trovo a fare anche lunghe navigazioni senza toccare terra per più di una notte o due. Il pensiero mi è andato spesso alla possibilità di avere bisogno di un aiuto medico, di trovarmi in difficoltà e non saper cosa fare. Così ho deciso di fare un corso dedicato proprio a questo: Come affrontare le emergenze sanitarie in alto mare. Lo so, questo non mi farà diventare né una dottoressa né un'infermiera, ma se anche mi darà mezza chance in più per potermela cavare... beh, me la caverò! In questo corso abbiamo parlato di quale sia la miglior "farmacia" per una navigazione d'altura, le apparecchiature utili a bordo, come affrontare una chiamata al C.I.R.M., e varie nozioni di primo soccorso in barca: dal mal di mare, alla disidratazione, ai colpi di sole, ai pericoli dei della flora e fauna marina, dalle punture di insetto, ai traumi cranici, dallo shock anafilattico, alla diarrea, da come fare le iniezioni, alla rianimazione, da come suturare una ferita, all'annegamento, ecc. Non sono mancate le esercitazioni pratiche: sui manichini, per apprendere ed eseguire la rianimazione cardiopolmonare e la defibrillazione, in età adulta e pediatrica; sulla pelle di maiale abbiamo suturato grosse ferite e fatto iniezioni alle arance! Mi sono sentita un po' come Rambo :-) Ovviamente spero che non mi capiti mai nulla, ma dovesse essere, avrò qualche possibilità in più di cavarmela in attesa dei soccorsi! Discovering Nova Scotia Atlantic Coast, visiting small fishing communities along the way .... ======================================= ABOUT ME Back in 2019 I decided I did not want to be a 9 to 5  type guy anymore.  I got fed up with this rat race like routine city life and I got hooked on the idea of sailing and living on a boat full time. But with 0 (zero) expirience that would be difficult to achieve... I took a Transport Canada course and received my first boat license... I watched tons of videos about boats and sailing on youtube and got myself registered with dozen boat related forums and groups on a facebook... In May 2020 I came across a facebook post. Sergey was looking for a crew to bring his boat to the Caribbean. I travelled 1300 km from Montreal to Halifax to join him on his boat. The trip was cancelled two months later for legitimate reasons.  Since I made my way to Nova Scotia I decided to discover this beatiful province before going back to Montreal I have not given up on my dream of sailing. Wir haben in der Båring Vig eine entspannte Nacht vor Anker bei den Schweinswalen verbracht. Am nächsten Morgen lichteten wir den Anker früh und setzten Kurs auf das eigentliche Ziel des Vortags - die kleine Insel Æbelø nördlich von Fünen. Es war nur ein kurzer Schlag bei herrlichem Wetter. Wir umrundeten die Insel an der Nordseite, vorbei an dem hübschen Leuchtturm, um uns im Lee der Insel einen neuen Ankerplatz zu suchen. Danny hatte die meiste Arbeit, denn ohne Ankerwinsch kann so ein Schlag schonmal anstrengend werden. le voilier Martineke est aujourd'hui à Sauzon en Bretagne. c'est le port que tout le monde aime à Belle ile en mer. Faire escale à Sauzon, c'est poser une paranthèse dans le temps. Ce petit film vous fera, nous espérons, toucher du doigt cette atmosphère unique. cela commence pour nous soit par un mouillage à l'extérieur, soit par l'embossage dans l'avant-port. après une session gonflage d'annexe le port est à nous 🙂 .
