We're out at the Viking to take a close look at all of the things we'll need to complete before we can move aboard her as our temporary home. In this week's episode, we're just about a week away from leaving Annapolis for the holidays, and are making one more trip out to 'Couch Dream' to asses a few of the things that will need to be finished before we can move aboard upon our return. We also start tearing apart the v-berth to get a better idea of the rot on the deck there, and take stock of everything that will need to be replaced. Matt also takes a moment to talk about how we're doing on the hunt for boat builders insurance, and spoiler alert - it's still not looking good. In 1997, after a disastrous Olympic rowing campaign, Rob decided to row a seven-metre plywood boat, 2500 miles from Tenerife in the Canary Islands to Barbados in the Caribbean. It took 6 weeks and he and his rowing partner, Phil Stubbs, won the inaugural Atlantic Rowing Race. Skip forward to 2014, we invested in Javelot a 43 ft Fountaine Pajot catamaran. Armed only with Robert's 3 years of racing P class yachts from the age of 11 to 13, and Rachel's non existent sailing knowledge, we set off to learn the ropes of ocean sailing. We broke stuff, replaced stuff and got to know our boat before heading offshore with our three children, Finn 17, Declan 15 and Ivan 12, in tow. Through trial and error, we have become confident wayfarers, kind of. Our plan? To sail around the world, meet the locals and record our adventures. Part of the journey will be retracing Rob’s eldest brother Kerry’s travels at sea. Il n’y a pourtant rien de drôle ! Mon capitaine dans sa chaise de mât se cramponne, crispé, pendant que je mouline pour le hisser en son sommet ! L’intervention est indispensable ! La pièce de blocage située au-dessus de la rondelle déflecteur de drisse de notre solent a cassé, très certainement lors du coup de vent que nous avons pris en arrivant. Refaite en Teflon, par mon ingénieux Tchoupi, les oiseaux peuvent bien ricaner, elle ne devrait plus nous poser de problèmes. Chacun son tour ! Tout à l’heure, c’est nous qui nous faisions observer, nous voilà maintenant transformés en ornithologues autour du lac de Noordhoek ! Juste au pied du célèbre Chapmans Peak, nous sommes invités à un Braii chez des amis de Roy, un personnage qu’il va falloir que je vous parle un peu plus loin. Dans cet havre semi-rural à seulement dix minutes de Simon’s Town, les oiseaux sont rois ! Plus de cent espèces cohabitent en toute sécurité dans cet espace naturel protégé. Nous en reconnaissons certains, comme les ibis, les aigles, les colibris, mais ceux que nous voulions vraiment voir, ce sont les flamands rose. Maritza nous l’a confirmée, nous avons de grandes chances de les voir ! Le soleil commence à baisser, et même si la journée est estivale, l’air se rafraichit vite sous cette latitude. En bordure de bassin, nous guettons l’avifaune quand surgissent du fond de la vallée, nos échassiers espérés… Mon capitaine reste sur sa faim, enfin plutôt sur sa soif ! Comment terminer en beauté de si belles journées sans son nectar préféré ! Avec ce lock down qui n’en finit pas, Black Lion se vide, mais nous venons de retrouver en fond de cale une bouteille de liquide distillé, certes le breuvage n’est pas l’eau-de-vie coutumière du bord, mais il a le mérite d’être fait, lui aussi, avec de la canne à sucre et de porter nos souvenirs de l’autre côté de l’Atlantique avec la Caipirinha Brésilienne ! Si nos souvenirs sont déjà très nombreux après un tour et demi sur cette belle planète, nous avons essayé de savoir ce qu’il en était pour ceux de notre ami, Roy ! Sur les océans depuis plus de quarante ans, il est de ceux qui marquent nos mémoires. Époque Moitessier, précurseur du voyage au grand large, aventurier du sextant, il inspire le respect et insuffle du rêve à l’imaginaire. Preuve vivante que tout est réalisable quand on le veut vraiment ! Sous le tempo des percussions des balafons et des djembés, les artistes de rue mettent l’ambiance, la marimba musique donne la cadence mais aujourd’hui, les touristes ont déserté ! La vie devient difficile pour tous ces virtuoses. Qu’ils soient chanteurs, musiciens ou artisans, depuis le début de cette pandémie, leurs talents manquent de public et les étalages des créateurs manquent cruellement de clients ! Nous serons les seuls de la journée pour Alan. Le prix qu’il nous a proposé pour cette superbe tête de lion en perles de verre ne pouvait pas accepter un refus, d’autant que sa place l’attendait dans le carré extérieur de notre Blacky !

This is my homemade garlic pull-apart loaf to meet all your garlic bread needs! I'm using the exact same dough from my pizza dough recipe vid (recipe/instructions here: https://youtu.be/jPbpaojn96A ), picking up here after the first rise Break dough into 10 or so small pieces Mix garlic, oregano, basil into 1/4 softened butter Apply butter mix and shredded cheese to one side of each piece, and stack them sideways in a narrow pan Rise in a warm place for 30-60 minutes, then bake at 400f for 30 minutes Pull apart and enjoy!

At the end of the 2020 season Plastskador took Aurora carefully into the yard to await the repair. Now it's finally time to take her in and start fixing her up. This is part one of the repair all is going well so far, the furniture has been removed, the grinding has started and the keel came off.
