The structure was only attached through a series of clamps and not welded strong so I wanted to reinforce the entire area to spread the load of the dinghy when it is hoisted. On top of the davits is an array of solar panels which help to power our boat as we 100% rely on solar for charge. When we first bought Nandji 5 years ago, these 3 old 80 watt panels were fixed to the davits, whilst they provide small amounts of power, this space can be better utilised to harness more energy. With the dimensions of the solar panel in hand, I came up with a design to complete our new davits. The only problem is, explaining this to someone who speaks a different language... With no sailing experience, we bought a yacht, got it blue water cruising ready and set off from Australia sailing to the Pacific! We have since cruised through New Caledonia, Vanuatu, the Solomon islands, Papua New Guinea, Indonesia and then onto the boat yard in Malaysia to prepare for the years to come. With a new engine, we continued onto Thailand, then back down into Indonesia and specifically West Sumatra to live the island life and chase the surf. With our Sailing plans changing, we returned to Thailand to wait for the weather and begin our journey to the northern route of the Indian Ocean to Sri Lanka before heading south across the Indian Ocean once cyclone season has finished and the trade winds begin! We were on our shake down sail when the mooring we were on failed and our home ended up on the reef. We saved the old girl and got her back to the boat yard for repairs to continue on our adventure! Ready to sail across the Indian Ocean, we were only days away from leaving when the pandemic begun closing countries around us... We are stuck for now, but enjoying the slower pace as we have just had our first baby, born overseas! We departed the east coast of Australia in July 2017 and have since sailed over 10000nm offshore. We have explored some amazing countries and met some beautiful people along the way. We have experienced so many different and diverse cultures, dived pristine reefs, surfed solo in the middle of nowhere, spent weeks at sea, dealt with storms, big waves, strong winds and had the time of our lives doing it! Manuel Cousin explique son avarie survenue sur Groupe Sétin samedi 6 février en fin de journée. Le skipper garde le moral et commence par sécuriser le bateau avant d'effectuer ses réparations.

Manuel Cousin a commencé à stratifier son puits de quille pour permettre de positionner l'axe de secours. Actuellement, la quille n'est pas bloquée, et le skipper doit travailler avec précaution pour ne pas se blesser. La suite de son Vendée Globe en dépend.

But with 0 (zero) expirience that would be difficult to achieve... I took a Transport Canada course and received my first boat license... I watched tons of boat related youtube videos and got myself registered with dozen sailing forums and groups on a facebook... In May 2020 I came across a facebook post. Sergey was looking for a crew to bring his boat to the Caribbean. I travelled 1300 km from Montreal to Halifax to join him on his boat. The trip was cancelled two months later for legitimate reasons.  Since I made my way to Nova Scotia I decided to discover this beatiful province before going back to Montreal I have not given up on my dream of sailing. Because of this Corona virus situation in the world It is just being put on hold... The repairs continue. Last week, our engine and autopilot failed on us. Priority number one, the engine. We find that the engine oil is completely contaminated with diesel, not good. We bypass the old lift pump and run a new electric fuel pump and do multiple oil changes. Now for the autopilot, getting a new second-hand fluxgate compass, we install it but not without first battling with the head unit, the Sikaflex defeated us and our kitchen knife. Our friends, Andy and Ludza, came to visit us in Luperon, Dominican Republic and we took the girls on a trip to visit the 27 waterfalls with some of our friends from Puerto Blanco Marina. Only 7 of the 27 waterfalls had enough water to slide or jump into the pools below. However, this was still a great chance to experience the fun side of nature. When we were all finished climbing, jumping, swimming and sliding down the waterfalls, a wonderful local Dominican lunch was prepared and served to us. Depois de despedir, dos amigos do Porto Chico Nobre, navegamos pelo lindo estreito de Tajapuru...onde chama a atenção a quantidade de crianças, que em pequenas canos, muitas vzs, no remo...para pedir! Esses estreitos são os locais mais bonitos, com a floresta amazônica “debruçada” sobre a água. O Tajapuru, assim com o estreito de Breves, correm paralelos, do Rio Amazonas ao Rio Pará (parte leste da ilha de Marajo) e são interligado por vários furos e estreitos. Para ir a Breves, deixasse o Tapajaru, navega pelo furo Vira Saia e furo de Breves até cair no estreito de Breves. Todos cartografados e de ótima profundidade! Em Breves, depois de abastecer no posto “Jesus por nós”... onde o proprietário Reginaldo, gentilmente providenciou que nos enviassem galões de água mineral e tb, uma providencial carona ao supermercado. Isto tudo deixando o veleiro atracado, no posto! Mais um dos infindáveis exemplos de gentilezas, típicos de nossa gente! O meu muito obrigado! True wind speed 18-22kn - time to reef. Boat accelerates nicely to 12kn in gusts.

From 8kn boat speed at 65TWA to 5kn in 40TWA. Keeping boat on 45-55TWA is what feels good and upwind VMG is the best.

After the accident with mast winch, which lead to tearing it off the mast, I was not able to raise mainsail. So did few tests on downwind without mainsail.

Dead down wind (170-180TWA) in light conditions. To be honest, this is not my favourable sail plan for DDW, I would prefer light symmetrical spinnaker. But for short distance and once you have already both front sails ready it is very easy to unfurl and start sailing.
