Foi muito trabalhoso, mas começou. Meu Deus, quem diria que apenas dois anos depois de iniciar um projeto maluco, tudo estaria caminhando e progredindo como está (leia um ponto de interrogação pois não achei o bendito no teclado...) Inacreditável uma pessoa que nunca teve contato com barcos resolver se mudar para um, ainda mais inacreditável é deixar a estabilidade do funcionalismo público e iniciar tudo praticamente do zero (meu primeiro contato com um veleiro foi postado no Ep 01 aqui do canal QUINTO ELEMENTO)... Loucura, né, não posso negar, embora possa afirmar que a água, os cabos, o "fazer você mesmo", a mecânica, sempre estiveram em minha vida embora de formas ligeiramente diferentes e não vinculadas. Aguardamos o documento do barco, planejamos ir para Ilha Bela, enfrentamos maré extra baixas com direito à tempestade e momentos tensos pra mim, mas também curtimos o mar, o sol, o céu, pescamos... Estes são os momentos que percebemos o por quê de estarmos ali, de termos deixado tudo e, de certa forma, nos afastado do mundo e do sistema. Já percebemos o quanto valeu a pena e que não é fácil, nem um pouco fácil! #65 Dans le dernier épisode, on a découvert au dernier moment que notre pataras (le câble d'acier arrière qui retiens le mât) était craqué à deux endroits sur le sertissage. Le genre de chose à ne pas prendre à la légère, nous avons tout de suite fait des démarches pour faire le changement avant le départ imminent vers les Caraïbes. On vous montre donc comment nous utilisons les Sta-lock, qui sont des ''fittings'' mécaniques qu'on peut installer soi-même à tout moment. c'est l'hiver, il fait beau mais froid, personne sur l'eau et une entrée dans le golfe du Morbihan du port du Crouesty jusqu'à l'île aux moines. Un courant bien dynamique. en mouvement plus par le courant que par le vent. Calme et sérénité. le Golfe c'est très beau et en cette période, il est presque que pour nous 🙂. c'est le deuxième volet de notre expédition de février 2021.

Les températures sont positives et nous dévoilent les cascades ruisselantes et énergisantes! Paulo asked about how water drains away from the base of the mast. While I knew that these Garcia Exploration boats have deck-stepped masts, I didn’t know exactly how rain water (or sea water? Yikes!) gets away from the recess at the base of the mast. Good subject for a video. 🙂 I’ll add that the chain locker has a dedicated bilge pump. Any water that drips off the chain can be pumped out via an above-waterline through-hull near the top of the centreboard box. Surprise, surprise - it was windy. My iPhone’s crackling microphone annoys me as much as anyone, so I’ve done a voiceover, with music! Carolyn says that’s a step too far and she might be right. It takes longer and it breaches our ‘No editing - Just sailing’ rule! 🤔

Hello to Simon from Sailing Ghost. Here’s a video showing the details of the Walder Boom Brake. We’ve found that the Walder Boom Brake works well to take the bite out of a gybe. It takes some practice to get the tension right. If it’s set too tight and we try to tack, sometimes the boom says ‘No!’ We’re fairly sure this boom brake will earn its keep. It only has to do its job once to pay for itself. Yes, the line going across the side-deck is a bit of a pain, but we’re used to it. It’s right where we duck under the lower shroud, so we avoid both in the one fluid move. Think ‘Gene Kelly’ and you’ll be fine. 🙂💃🕺

This is an introduction to linoprinting multiple colours, for beginners. I am using the reduction print method, where I carve and print multiple layers of colour from one block of lino. I start by showing how I plan layers of colour for my print, and how I transfer the image onto lino using tracing paper. I show two layers of ink being printed and three layers of carving. Stage 2, to follow, will show the final print being completed. Short-Eared owl: Asio flammeus, or 'Shortie', is mostly seen out and about in the daytime and easily spotted in the wintertime when migrants join resident birds. Look out for it over the moors and saltmarshes. Short-eared owls mainly hunt during the daytime, flying low over tussocks grasslands, moors and saltmarshes to feed on field voles and small birds. Similar size as the Barn owl, but with longer wings. The short-eared owl breeds in Northern England and Scotland can be seen more widely in winter depending on storm wind directions. They tend to nest on the ground in very rough ground cover scrub like Gorse, Blackthorn & brambles in scraped-out hollows lined with grass and downy feathers. Filmed in Cornwall around October/November over suitable hunting grasslands on the Cornwall coastline. You will often see up to half a dozen owls all hunting together, quartering the area. Fights often happen mid-air if-then encroach on each other's patch. The owls get mobbed, hassled or attacked by other birds, including Crows, Jackdoors, Magpies, Ravens, Kestrels, Peregrines; you can see invasive tactics and wing clapping ward off predators.
