We are at the point in our season where we are starting to make our way back south and west after getting within ten miles of the Canadian border. Our first stop is Mud Hole. This sweet anchorage is only accessible at high tide. This entrance to this harbor is very tight, Brian (S/V Delos) jumps in Maggie to complete a recon mission before we decide to enter. We make use of the twelve foot tides and safely enter the super protected basin. We want to hike the trails surrounding Mud Hole, however being far off the beaten path means there isn't a dinghy dock for miles. The twelve foot tidal range makes landing a dinghy challenging. Upon completing the hike your dinghy will either be high and dry or floating way out in the cold water. Our latest solution has been to anchor the dinghy out in deep water and use our kayak to get get to shore. The kayak is much lighter and easier to drag up on the beach. After exploring Mud Hole and Mistake Island it is time to continue our trip south. At the start of the passage we notice an odd reddish fluid in the bilge. Suspicious of the freshly rebuilt transmission, we empty the sail locker to check the fluid level. Unbeknownst to us; the slowly spinning propellor and tight tolerances where the dip stick is inserted combine to mangle the dip stick resulting in metal bits in the fluid. We find ourselves engineless with no wind, drifting at the mercy of the strong Maine currents. Luckily Delos is at our side on this passage. Brian and Kazza offer to give us a tow (a first for both of us!). We lower the dinghy and prepare a tow line. We didn't want to risk bringing the two boats together in the sloppy swell so we pass the line using the dinghy. Delos is a beast of a boat and able to tow Calico Skies at a quick 5.5 knots. The tow is going well until thick fog descends. It gets a bit chaotic trying to dodge lobster pots in the limited visibility. We arrive at the anchorage and drop the tow line. Sept. 2019: zu zweit starten wir mit einer Elan 384 aus 2007 von der Insel Krk - Punat Richtung Cres Bucht Meli. Wegen eines Motorkabel-Wacklers mussten wir Sonntag leider wieder zurück Richtung Punat, um uns mit dem Mechaniker zu treffen. Die 2. Nacht also wieder auf Cres in der Bucht Kolorat an eine Boje. Montag segelten wir dann mit 20 kn Raumwind nach Silba. Beim Bojenmanöver verloren wir unseren Bootshaken, den Carlo dann schwimmend rettete ;) Dienstag segelten wir wieder mit viel Wind Richtung Dugi Otok, an dem Wrack in Veli Rat vorbei in die Traum-Bucht nach Sakarun. Dabei riss uns eine Leine vom Rollgroß ... sonst hätten wir in Dugi Otok den Mir See angepeilt. Aber die Sakarun Bucht ist traumhaft !!! Blaues Wasser und Sandstrand ! Sehr zu empfehlen! Am Mittwoch mit 15 kn Raumwind Richtung Olib. Da verbrachten wir eine sehr schlimme Gewitter-Nacht in einer ungeschützten und viel zu flachen Ankerbucht. Horror für mich! Am Donnerstag ging es bei schönstem Wetter weiter nach Rab und Freitag zurück nach Punat: Pleiten, Pech und Pannen: Bereits bei der Übernahme der Yacht sprang der Motor nicht an. Ein Mechaniker kam, machte nichts und er funktionierte plötzlich wieder. Ich drängte darauf, den wahren Grund zu suchen und zu beheben, aber darauf hatte keiner Lust ... "es wird schon passen ... ich solle mich darauf verlassen" ... Wir segelten also fröhlich nach Cres in eine einsame Ankerbucht. Als wir am nächsten Tagen starten wollten, der Wind hatte mittlerer Weile auf "Auflandig" gedreht, sprang der Motor nicht mehr an. Wir telefonierten mit dem Mechaniker, der uns versprach, sich auf den Weg zu machen. Der Wind blies immer stärker in die Bucht, doch glücklicherweise hielt der Anker. Aber wie lange noch? Wir planten schon, uns mit dem Dinghi aus der Bucht zu ziehen und draußen einfach die Segel zu setzten. Riesen Sch ... Bei einem weiteren verzweifelten Versuch funktionierte er plötzlich wieder. Eindeutig ein Wackler. Wir machten uns bei tollem Wind leider in die falsche Richtung - zurück nach Punat, um uns mit dem Mechaniker zu treffen. Auf halber Strecke kamen dann die Mechaniker. Es lag an einer zu lockeren Verbindung des Kabels mit der Starterbatterie. Ich wackelte zwar vorher selber dran, aber mir fiel es nicht auf, dass sie nicht 1000% fest gezogen war. Es wunderte mich auch, denn von meinem Wohnwagen war ich gewohnt, dass die Batterieklemme sehr locker nur auf der Batterie auflag. Wieder was gelernt. Einen Tag "verloren" und 25 sm Umweg :( Auch regnete es in Sturzbächen in das Schiff. Bei den Musikboxen stellte ich Töpfe unter, die ich fast stündlich entleeren musste. Wirklich schade um das an sich wunderschöne Schiff! Am Sonntag gerieten wir an der Boje in ein Gewitter. Falschen Platz gewählt! Bei jeder Welle zerrten die Leinen. Diese zu verlängern war dann bei 2 Meter Welle schon zu spät. Kurios war, dass während des Gewitter auf meinem Navionics das GPS uns mal plötzlich um 50 m weiter an Land versetzte. Ich bin total erschrocken und hetzte zum Anlasser, um die Bucht zu verlassen ... ich dachte die Leine ist gerissen ... als ich merkte, dass sich nur das Signal und nicht das Boot versetzten ... Wieder was gelernt ... Dass uns dann von dem Roll-Groß noch eine Leine riss ... Naja, ohne diese ist das Einholen eh besser. Einer musste halt deswegen an den Mast gehen. Ansonsten war es ein ein toller Törn und oben Erlebtes gehört halt zum Segeln einfach dazu ;) Hätten wir nicht den Sonntag verloren, hätten wir es wohl bis zum Telescica NP geschafft. Da hätten wir aber dann auch eine weite Strecke hinter uns gebracht.
