As the backbone of the presentation, you’ll see the results of Michelle’s craft as a photographer, while Ian gives voice to their life transition. Ian and Michelle will take us along on the journey of getting the bug through to completion of their first year on board. This high-level photo journey will follow buying and preparing the boat and then moving onto their travels to Maine and the Bahamas to highlight various aspects of living aboard. They have struck a balance to avoid either a travelogue or going down technical rabbit-holes, but still including salient, actionable take-aways.

Day off today! Let’s go sailing! But first, we gotta get the boat ready... In this video I show you guys how I manage to get my tiny floating house off of the dock and out on the water. It starts with a lot of clean up and securing things inside the boat so that everything isn’t broken when I get back to the marina. I’ll show you guys the starting procedure for firing up the universal diesel motor on my Catalina 30 Sailboat and some good checks to do before you shove off. AND! There is even a little bit of nice sailing on the San Diego Bay near Point Loma. Flying solo again so I had to single hand it but it was a beautiful day on the water. C'est le printemps, il fait beau, la nature se reveille, il ne fait pas trop chaud, c'est le moment idéal pour partir en randonnée près de chez soi. Como estamos em período de pandemia, preferi me contentar com caminhadas, demoradas, pela praia sem me aventurar na vila. MinaMaria (sigam-a no insta, tb!) fez ótimas amizades com os donos da praia. Quatro lindos dogs, que a receberam com muitas corridas, banhos e cheiros. Tb, fui solicitado a fazer pequeno reboque a lancha do corpo de bombeiro, que nos fins de semana, destaca salva vidas, para ajudar os poucos banhistas, caso precisem. O reboque foi feito pelo bote de poio, mesmo... já que a maré corria mansamente. We love it when we can sail to our destination using just the wind! In this video we traverse a narrow channel into Boot Key Harbor, after sailing under the 7 mile Bridge. The span of the Bridge to Nowhere is 60’, no room for error! Boot key harbor is in Marathon and the anchorage has 100’s of boats on either side of the channel. We are proud of ourselves for using sails only to make it to our mooring! We did have to run the Iron Ginny for 6 minutes because we were not exactly sure which mooring ball was ours! Now to really learn about “living” full-time aboard S/V Stella Maris!

A few months ago we were lucky enough to spend a day aboard the beautiful and historical Tall Ship, The One and All. We got to see the amazing and friendly crew working together as a tight knit team as well as lend a hand with some of the tasks. We also felt what it is like to be out in 40 knot winds although we didn't get any footage, we were too busy holding on and enjoying the ride! If you ever find yourself in sunny SA with a day to spare, we highly recommend booking a day out on The One and All, it's an experience we'll always look back on fondly. This is the second video in the Building a Balance 442 Catamaran series. Here you will follow the build of the first Balance 442 Catamaran from tooling to launch and sea trials of hull #1. This video shows the second stages of the hull mold and deck plug construction. The hull mold is constructed using thousands of CNC-cut shutter ply frames and meranti stringers. This framework is then cladded with weather-proof ply and faired until smooth. The same process is then applied to the deck plug, from which the deck mold is manufactured using E-Glass and resins with structural reinforcement behind it. It is worth noting that the Balance 442 hull is laminated in one piece without the need for additional joining laminates and tabbing, which helps to save weight . The structural PVC foam core material is thermo formed and vacuum bagged to assist with further weight savings and to provide structural integrity to this performance sailing catamaran. We've finally started cutting out large sections of steel and welding in new plate. With a break in the weather, the easing of restrictions and the arrival of the new equipment from Lincoln Electric we've finally managed to get stuck in. We've chopped out a large section of the starboard side lasarette and have welded that up and made a good start on the port side as well. We had good intentions of going sailing on our Catalina 42. With only 6-7 kts of wind laziness set in and decided to motor around and drift.
