Tiki drinks with bourbon are rare- they tend to call for rum. But if done right, big-bodied whisky/whiskey's can go particularly well with spices that pop up consistently in tiki recipes like cinnamon, clove, allspice, and nutmeg. Some juices work, some don't. We sail to Nassau and on the way we stop at Normans Cay (Pablo Escobar's old island). The island was once the main stopover and re-fuelling point for Pablo's planes traveling to the US laden with drugs. It was estimated that during the late 1970's and early 80's that 80% of cocaine in the US came through Normans Cay! We find and snorkel on one of the crashed drugs plane which sits in only a few feet of water. The next day we make our way to Nassau and have to cross the Yellow Bank. Yellow bank is a very shallow patch about 20 miles offshore that you have to cross coming from the Exumas. With only a couple of feet under the keel, we have to weave between coral reefs! EP 185: Everyone Get Naked | Using Rain Water On A Boat After our adventuring to the Grand Etang Nature Reserve to see the Mona Monkeys. We headed off to the Seven Sisters Waterfall. We had a 20 min hike through the lush forest with a few muddy slips along the way to see the beautiful waterfall. The rain came pouring down not long after and the rain held up for about 2 days so we used it to our advantage to give the boat a good fresh water wash. Ricky hopped into the water to give the hull a good scrub and get rid of all the algae growth on the bridle and anchor chain as well as give the props a scrub before we head off again to another anchorage spot. We received our 2nd order of insulation again from Amazon so we got down to covering up our beds (we have space ship beds now) but WOW what a difference it made. It took 6 weeks and he and his rowing partner, Phil Stubbs, won the inaugural Atlantic Rowing Race. His first taste of a blue water ocean crossing. Skip forward to 2014 and, married with three children, Rob and Rachel purchased Javelot a 43 ft Fountaine Pajot catamaran. Armed only with Rob's 3 years of racing P class yachts from the age of 11 to 13, and Rachel's non existent sailing knowledge, we set off to learn the ropes of ocean sailing. We broke stuff, replaced stuff and got to know our boat before heading offshore with the kids, Finn 19, Declan 17 and Ivan 14, in tow. Through trial and error, we have become confident wayfarers, kind of. Our plan? To sail around the world. Part of the journey will be retracing Rob’s eldest brother Kerry’s travels at sea. Using Kerry’s original letters from the 1970’s we will re trace his movements from Australia through Indonesia and South East Asia to Cambodia where Kerry’s life was cut short after straying into Cambodian waters in 1978. After leaving Little Pipe Cay, we arrived at Cambridge Cay, one of the more popular destinations for most cruisers (too many boats); it was not one of ours and we probably would not return. There were dozens of boats and no mooring balls available so we dropped anchor and went for a hike on the island. It was a beautiful hike with great views of the ocean side. This was our first visit to the Exuma National Park and if you drop anchor, you pay $.50/foot per night. A mooring ball is $35/night. We took the time to head over to Rocky Dundas Caves on Fowl Cay, which we were told by our friends that it was well worth the trip. The caves were super cool. As regatas desta quinta-feira (29) da Semana Internacional de Vela de Ilhabela foram canceladas em função dos fortes ventos em Ilhabela (SP), que passaram de 30 nós de rajada com Sudoeste. O frio se manteve no litoral norte paulista com termômetros chegando a 12 graus de mínima. Para preservar a segurança dos 81 barcos que participam do maior evento de vela oceânica da América Latina, a comissão de regatas resolveu tomar a decisão. Dies ist die Geschichte der ersten zwei Tage unseres ersten systemischen Seminars auf dem Wasser! Der Törn ging von von Palma de Mallorca über Sa Rapità, rund Cabrera, Andratx wieder zurück nach Palma. Nicht nur segelmäßig sind die Dinge anders gekommen als geplant - so ist es ja immer - auch seminarmäßig, natürlich. Aber alles mit einem guten bis sehr guten Ende. In dieser Geschichte erfährst du, warum wir schon am ersten Tag wieder zurück in die Marina mussten und wie wir uns mit der fremden, für uns erst mal unheimlich großen Yacht vertraut machen.
