Der Midsummer Cup vom ASVW zu Warnemünde zählt zu den Saisonhighlights der Dickschiff Segler. Ein gemeinsamer Start mit Yardstickwertung in Warnemünde und Ziel in Kühlungsborn zeichnen die Veranstaltung aus. 2021 konnte Fehmarn auf dem verkürzte Kurs leider nicht umrundet werden; dafür waren wir dann nach der Nachtregatta rechtzeitig in Kühlungsborn, um noch eine Curry Wurst bei Edel und Scharf sowie ein kühles Getränk im Vielmeer zu genießen.

Knappes Finish zwischen Projection 762 Nemo , Luffe 43 Inspiration und J97 Monk. Die Mittwochsregatta startet im Sommer zwischen den Molenköpfen in Warnemünde, geht dann je nach Windrichtung bis Wilhelmshöhe, zur Reedetonne und zurück zu den Molen. Die Besonderheit war in 2021, dass es keinen gemeinsamen Start gab, sondern ein sogenannter Känguru Start dazu führte, dass die Yachten versetzt anhand der berechneten Ankunftszeiten quasi mit Handicap starten und dann ideal fast zeitgleich ins Ziel kommen. Im Video ist hier ein knapper Zieleinlauf unter Spinnacker zu sehen. Die Berechnung der Zeiten folgt dem Yardsticksystem, welches für jedes Schiff einen entsprechenden Verrechnungsfaktor bietet, mit dem die gesegelte Zeit oder hier eben die Startzeit normiert wird.

Our trusty subscribers (you know who you are) will get a fresh, funny review of season one. Once the review is over we go back to work. This time delving into Bob's oil covered bilge. Ewwww. Bob is almomst 40 years old. And trust me... Bob's bilge looked it. But not anymore. That being said.... while cleaning bilge a thru-hole got popped open and Bob started taking on water. A lot of water. So I fired up the Slurpr (AKA HC.IP. WTP. ((learn about it in season one episode 25) Long story short... we made some interesting findings. After the bilge we installed some composting toilets, fought off a storm, saved the dingy from sinking and woke up to a snow covered sail boat. Enjoy!! Chat 18 catamaran and the Torpoint chain ferry Sailing our Chat 18 catamaran in the river Tamar offers several challenges. Not just from the strong tides or the naval traffic (both RN and foreign warships) but also from the three chain ferries. These seem to be a uniquely British invention. Most similar ferries use wires or ropes, both of which I've seen elsewhere. Of course, few of any type are left these days, as bridges have been built over most waterways. So on England's south coast the ones at Saltash and the Itchen have long gone, but Sandbanks/Studland at the mouth of Poole harbour and the "Floating Bridge" across the river Medina at Cowes still exist. However they are short crossings and there is only one ferry. All that means that the Torpoint ferries are the largest and busiest chain ferries in the world. The service was established in 1791 and chain ferry operations were introduced by James Meadows Rendel in 1832. If you're really bored see here https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Torpoint_Ferry We live just 1/4 mile upstream of the ferries. So every time we want to go for a proper sail (as opposed to staying in the river Tamar) we have to sail past them. Much easier to do when there is a good wind, as in today's video. And it's always best to pass just behind one - that way you know you won't hit one of the others! Even so we have all had our scary moments, particularly when racing in strong winds under spinnaker. My sailing club (Torpoint Mosquito SC) is just downstream of the ferries, so when we are dinghy racing we normally stay on the south side. Very occasionally the wind has dropped when the incoming tide was running hard and we have had to be towed away. Although one year someone hit the ferry and another boat got stuck on the slipway. Very embarrassing all round, especially as all three ferries had to stop for an hour while the dinghies were extracted - and it was rush hour so over 200 cars were trapped on board. We finally get to untie the docks lines and take our new boat out for our maiden voyage across the Baja. We have been working hard on getting the boat prepared for sailing. VA has been sitting on the dock for the last 3 months during the summer and has received a lot of TLC. Rundgang auf der Lagoon 420 2022 geht´s ab dem 18.06. - 08.07. von Amsterdam durch den Kanal nach Großbritanien, die Küste runter, rund um Landsend...und zum Schluss wieder quer rüber nach Jersey. Im weiteren Jahresverlauf geht´s dann bis auf die Kanaren, wo das Schiff überwintert und dann kommendes Jahr über Madeira ins Mittelmeer geht. In 2023 können wir bestimmt wieder Kabinen im Mittelmeer anbieten. Dieses Jahr ist voll. LG Birgit und Christoph
