On our passage south down BC's Sunshine Coast, we "attempt" to stern-tie in Smuggler Cove, get disabled at sea from hitting a hidden log, and finally check in to Snug Cove on Bowen Island. We ask the locals how to find the mysterious mastodon hiding somewhere in the island's forest, then sail into Coal Harbor, Vancouver, under the infamous Lion's Gate Bridge. After a quick bicycle ride around Stanley Park, we discover changing offshore weather that forces us to head south to Point Roberts earlier than expected, to try to avoid an onslaught of incoming storms. Утром сдали катамаран, купили билеты на паром до Афин и пошли на городской пляж Парикии. Паром у нас отправлялся в 6 часов вечера. По дороге на пляж зашли в ресторан, заказали обед договорились с хозяином и оставили наши чемоданы. Пляж не далеко от центра Парикии и от марины, где брали и сдавали наш катамаран - 5-10 минут ходьбы. На пляже провели почти целый день После этого поздний обед в ресторане и к 5 вечера пошли на паром. В Афинах были в 22:00. Жилье у нас уже было зарезервировано заранее и мы поехали по адресу. По дороге зашли в магазин и купили все необходимое для хорошего ужина. Отметили, отпраздновали наш удачный отдых !!! In the morning we handed over our cat, bought tickets for the ferry to Athens and went to the local beach of Parikia. The ferry was to leave at 6 pm. On the way to the beach stopped by a restaurant and ordered lunch. The owner let us drop off our suitcases. The beach was not far from the center of Parikia and from the marina, where we rented and renturned our catamaran - 5-10 minutes walk. We spent the whole day on the beach. After that, we had a late lunch in a restaurant and by 5 pm we went to the ferry. Arrived to Athens at 22:00. Our accommodation had already been booked in advance and we went to the address. In this episode we take you back to one of our last trips of summer 2021 as we explore the wreck of MV Captayannis. The Captayannis was a Greek sugar-carrying vessel that sank in the Firth of Clyde, Scotland in 1974. On the evening of 27 January 1974, a severe storm caused the 4,576 GRT Captayannis to drag her anchor while she was waiting at the Tail of the Bank to deliver sugar to the James Watt Dock in Greenock. Her captain ordered the engines to be started with the intention of running for the more sheltered waters of the Gareloch but before she could be brought to power she drifted onto the taut anchor chains of the BP tanker British Light. The tanker suffered no damage but her anchor chains holed the sugar boat below the waterline, allowing water to pour in. Through time Captayannis has become 'home' to marine life and birds. She has never been removed as confusion surrounds the identity of her owners and insurers – no one accepts responsibility for her removal. She is known to many locals simply as the "sugar boat". Who are we? We are a family of three with three dogs, sailing the coasts of Scotland, exploring one island at a time – for now! There is no set route or plan. We will go where the wind and life take us. We have two golden retrievers and a bernese mountain dog – Hachi, Luna and Meems who sail with us. We sail on a 1995 Gib’Sea 472 who we are in the process of refitting, making our own and preparing for a big adventure. Connect with us! It was really special during the particularly challenging year of 2020 to enjoy a wonderful day with my lovely Grandad. So after a couple of months of not posting we finally got around to putting all of the footage together for our solar project. November was a tough month for us as we had to make trips to Puerto Rico for my father's pacemaker surgery and two weeks later again to see our family for my mother-in law's birthday, my parents anniversary and thanksgiving after been away from family due to covid for almost two years. So as you can imagine not much got done. That said during December we took time to keep moving our sailboat restoration forward so we piece time together to get the solar project done. As always everything takes longer than expected when you are working with a boat. We build our new tray to hold our solar panels. A Big Thank You! To Tristen from JSD Welding and Fabrication. Great guy helped me get this project started the right way. From there we install, tested and wire our panels. We installed our new Victron Charge Controllers, Victron Lynx Distribution Box, and Fullriver Batteries On this video we cover everything through getting the wires inside the boat. We wanted to keep it under 15 minutes so Part 2 Video will cover the new battery setup and setup for all charge controllers and wiring inside the boat. There will also be a possible third video (depends if it does not make it into Part 2) where we share a complete diagram of the components and setup of our solar array. Construction of the Qutub Minar "victory tower" in the complex, named after the religious figure Sufi Saint Khwaja Qutbuddin Bakhtiar Kaki, was begun by Qutb-ud-din Aibak, who later became the first Sultan of Delhi of the Mamluk dynasty (سلطنتِ غلامان). Vi undviker inte ovädret helt, utan får ett dygn med kuling-vindstyrka. Dagarna efter ovädret vänder vinden och blåser rakt från Azorerna. Efter att ha kämpat i ett dygn i motvind, motström och grov sjö beslutade vi oss för att lägga i drivankaret och vila istället och invänta bättre vindar. Sista biten till Azorerna går sedan i en rasande fart, med fart rekord och allt, och vi kommer, efter 26 dygn till havs, äntligen fram till ett regnigt och molnigt Horta. (We named our first boat “Miss Lone Star”) SO, that is exactly what we did, and six years later here I am. It was the best decision I could have ever made. I am no longer involved with the person who introduced me to this crazy, amazing lifestyle but I will for ever be grateful that I was in the right place ant the right time and was able to find it in myself to do something that truly challenged me. Q: What did you do before you moved onto a boat and became a “Sailing Youtuber”? A: I am a portrait photographer by trade, which made the switch over to creating Youtube videos just a little easier. I currently buy and sell boats behind the scenes to keep the Pirate Ship in fresh varnish and crispy sails. Q: What are your sailing qualifications? A: I have my 50 ton USCG captains license Q: Why did you delete the first two seasons from Youtube? A: The long and the short of it is that, the person I was with was battling a mental illness that I was unaware of. After we broke up it was just too painful to see the videos and read the comments on social media, so I took them down. He later took his own life and looking back now the tragic story seems to make more sense to me. A: My kids are getting older now, and transitioning into teenage-hood is hard enough without having to do it on social media. Fuel Tanks Crisis Part 2; Tanks Welded, Returned, and Installed we tackle the seldom mention and much misunderstood causes and prevention of marine diesel system fuel tank corrosion. This is a BIG PROBLEM; however, not much has been mentioned or known because the issues are mostly hidden and hard to get to so when the tank starts dripping, it's too late and it has to be removed and repaired or replaced which is a big disruption and expensive but thankfully mostly preventative if you catch it early or start good preventative measures once you repair or replace your tanks. Mit seinen drei Betriebsmodi (manuell, elektrisch und kombiniert) und hoher Kraft ermöglicht der Ewincher2 sehr schnelle Manöver, die sonst nur von sehr sportlichen Crews realisierbar sind. Trotz seiner beeindruckenden Kraft ist der EWicher2 dank des konfigurierbaren Drehmoment-Begrenzers und des sensitiven Bedienknopfes für eine varible Drehzahl viel besser dosierbar als eine Elektro-Winsch. This week, we leave Little Falls, NY. After a day of resting and taking in scenery, we begin a big day on the water starting with the biggest lock we have gone through yet (!!) followed by 6 more, totaling 7 locks for the day! (phew!) We return to our boat after leaving her in humid Panama for rainy season and are faced with lot's of dirt and a variety of mold in every shade of the rainbow both on deck and down below. We start by scrubbing the deck and cockpit clean and then turn to the inside: Everything gets pulled out and put on deck to be aired out and sanitized by the bright sun. We then do a thorough inspection and see how we fared by checking each system, keeping an eye out for bugs and leaving hatches open to rid Calico of her damp feeling. Though the engine starts (score!) our water heater is busted. We turn out to be roach free but instead contend with a weevil invasion and multiple wasp nests UGH. Bill climbs the mast to remove the nests and while he's at it fix the broken steaming light; another casualty of leaving the boat for so long. We continue testing systems and find that the generator still runs, another win. Bill recommissions the dinghy and takes her for a test drive to find that she's also performing as expected. The story concludes with the arrival of a massive 106 pound box that we've had shipped from the USA filled with loads of new goodies to instal down the line.
