We verplaatsen naar een ankerplaats dichterbij Muros om boodschappen te kunnen doen en de fokroller te laten lassen. Als we met de bijboot de haven invaren wordt de huisdolfijn van de marina op slag verliefd op onze Evita. Hij blijft ons volgen en zelfs 's nachts blijft Manueliño om onze boot zwemmen. Als de fokroller gemaakt is vervolgen we onze reis naar Ria de Arousa, waar we weer voor anker gaan. We wandelen door het dorp en natuurgebied op Illa de Arousa en varen vervolgens door naar Cambados. Jarenlang heb ik ervan gedroomd om zeilend te gaan waar de wind me brengt. In 2020 was het dan eindelijk zover en heb ik samen met Felia een prachtige reis gemaakt naar Scandinavië en de Baltische staten. Onze Eva, een Atlantic 43 uit 2007, is een aluminium zeiljacht met hefkiel en gebouwd en uitgerust voor reizen naar plaatsen die net achter de horizon liggen. Vanaf 2021 vaar ik met wisselende bemanning zuidwaarts. Ik vind het leuk om onze avonturen met jullie te delen. Criou-se, entre nós, uma amizade muito bonita e elogiada por pessoas amantes dos pets. Com o tempo, de forma natural e impeceptível, o cão passou a me obedecer em muita coisa, Inclisive não atravessandoa rua sem minha ordem. No mês que completei 66 anos, e o Thor 2,5 anos, por insistênica de amigos e principalmente da minha filha, comprei minha primeira bicicleta da vida. Quando fui pedalar a primeira vez meu corção partiu ao deixar meu amigo. Tentei coloco-lo no guidão, mas ele é grande e eu muito barbeiro. Então encostei a bike e não andei enquanto não comprei um reboque para puxá-lo. Como sou aventureiro por natureza, resolvi criar um desafio: sair de Morrinhos, GO, e chegar até Paraty, RJ, onde mora minha filha. We round Cape Voltaire, one of the challenging capes with neap tides and find the ebb tide against us but with placid seas. Crossing Admiralty Gulf the Osborne Island area provides many art sites and some spectacular geological formation to explore. Parry Harbour and Cape Bouganville are our next challenges and with spring tides the cape produces some worrying moments. Freshwater bay with its year round fresh water gives us a few peaceful days to rest and recharge with great swimming walks and a chance to do the laundry. Next stop is Jar Island known for its great rock art. We are greeted by a large and aggressive croc when we land and only convince it to leave with a few well placed thrown rocks. We are left feeling nervous but the rock are on the island is great and well worth the effort. We visit the WW2 DC3 plane wreck next, a fascinating site and the best preserved plane crash site we have ever seen. With fuel running low, after transiting the challenging middle rock passage we head for Honeymoon Bay where Joy, the owner of the camp ground get 6 jerries filled for us in Kalumbaru. After moving to Anjo Cove for the night we head for Cape Talbot Bay to prepare for our rounding of Cape Londonderry with its reputation as being one of the roughest Capes to negotiate.

We did it! We finally set sail from Green Turtle Cay in the Northern Abacos and crossed to the Southern Abacos via Whales Cut. We even had perfect weather for it which made for a very enjoyable sail. A little overnight stop by Marsh Harbour and we carry on to Pelican Cays Land and Sea Park by Sandy Cay. There we explore the underwater world of Coral Garden. And wow we are in for a treat. A short sail over and we spend a few days at Spencers Point. We even get to explore some ruins closeby while waiting for the weather window. Joanna shot to fame in 2017 when she broke records becoming the first independent artist to go straight to Number 1 in the Official Classical Artists Album Charts with a debut album, "Stars Are Rising". Another video from our live aboard cruising days. And it's a complete contrast to the last one I posted, which was of us cruising through ice in Alaska. After sailing our 32ft Eclipse catamaran along the north coast of Cuba we headed south and after a bumpy "wind over tide" two day sail arrived in Belize. We stayed there a month, celebrating my 50th birthday with siblings, which included a trip to the famous ruins at Tikal. Then we headed south again, as we needed somewhere we could leave Eclipse during the hurricane season. Belize has no safe hurricane hole but fortunately Guatemala does, at Fronteras on the Rio Dulce. More here https://www.anywhere.com/guatemala/destinations/rio-dulce After clearing into Guatemala at Livingston we headed the 18 miles up the river to Fronteras. The river runs through the aptly named rainforest and a very deep gorge - the cliffs are up to 300ft high. It was the setting for some of the Tarzan films from the 1930s. And also home to howler monkeys, which are the world's loudest land animals and can be heard up to 3 miles away. The only houses are on the water front as there is no road access and so canoes are the main form of transport. Although safe from hurricane storm surges the river is very prone to flooding after heavy rain and all the houses are at risk, even when built on stilts. There are several marinas in the town, we stayed at the biggest - Marios - complete with a swimming pool and great bar/restaurant. (Our monthly bar bill often exceeded our mooring fees). The whole area is more developed now, but, even so, this was the first time anywhere that we had wifi on the boat. And this was YEARS before we had broadband in our home town in Cornwall. Despite being on the water it was very hot and humid, not helped by the fact that we had mosquito screens on all the hatches and doors. We had four large fans running 24/7 for four months. If we went there again we would buy a small AC unit. So we left the boat and travelled inland as much as we could, visiting the ancient Mayan sites in Mexico, Honduras and Guatemala. We also flew home a couple of times and found that Guatemala City's main airport is a tedious five hour bus ride and the city itself is a pretty scary place to be. As in most of Central America public transport is in old, highly decorated ex US school buses. Known locally as "chicken buses". I discovered why, when, on one trip, I sat next to a woman who had two live chickens dangling from her arm. We stayed at Marios until November when we headed east and then south. First to the Honduran Bay Islands and then south to Providencia, where Jetti once lived, and on to Panama.
