Nous avions longtemps idéalisé la transat, et pour cause, les récits des navigateurs transocéanique étaient similaires sur le fait que, vent stable, houle régulière, c'est une traversée agréable où l'on prend le temps de vivre. Mais ça n'a pas été notre cas, du moins, pas en ce début de transat ! C'est pour cela que notre transat ne pouvait se résumer en un seul épisode. Ce premier épisode transat a tardé à sortir et nous en sommes désolés. Outre les visites successives de nos familles dès notre arrivée en Martinique, c'est un épisode qui a fait l'objet de nombreux désaccords entre nous. Heureusement que nous avions fini par trouver un compromis ! Alors on espère que cet épisode vous plaira !

But unfortunately, in our case, we have to find a source of water on land. But when it comes to cruising, networking is almost as essential as H2O and a friend we met in Fiscardo was able to point us to a port that has water and the option to stay overnight – free of charge even. How sweet is that? Only issue: The keel of our boat has a draft of 1.75 meters, whereas most areas of the port a really shallow and have a depth of only 1.60 meters. We do not want to ground the boat as we are preparing to tie up via med mooring, so we have to be extremely careful to stick to the charts. We soon realize just how close we were to actually getting SV CUBA grounded. The very next day we already have to cast off the lines again, get the sails up and push on to Porto Katsiki, a majestic anchorage on the west side of Lefkada. Soon our next crew Shyah will arrive from Boston and we still have a few nautical miles to go until we arrive near the airport. Porto Katsiki is actually not a port but a large bay with a white pebble beach, surrounded by steep limestone cliffs. It is located in the Southwest of Lefkada and for a long time it was only accessible by goats. Hence the name in Greek: Πόρτο Κατσίκι, "goat port". Its crystal-clear waters and magnificent landscape make it a popular anchorage for day cruisers, sailors, charter boats and tour boats alike. We arrived late in the afternoon and already found out early the next morning just how popular this beach is. With no time to spare and music and loudspeakers blasting at us from several directions, we sail to Preveza. Once we arrive, however, we lose no time to get some essential preparation, a holding tank, for clearance and to be able to be sailing in Turkey out of the way. We are Enrique (Kiki) from Cuba and Sarah (Salsa) from Germany on a mission to sail around the world. We have almost no sailing experience, but are determined to circumnavigate & share our adventures with you. Join us on our first stop, when we explore the abandoned bunkers of Albania. We’d spent a few days at anchor in Setubal enjoying finally getting to swim in the sea and some sunshine when a new forecast meant we should look to leave sooner rather than later or risk being weather bound so we packed up (sadly without filming any of our time there) and set off. What a day we had! Having spent so much time since leaving the U.K. with unfavourable conditions or self imposed restrictions due to reports of Orca attacks, we finally had the weather and felt the freedom to sail freely with it due to a lack of reported Orca attacks and boy did we make the most of it!! Downwind sailing in the Caribbean is a myth - going north you will often find yourself beating again a force 5/6 with with squalls and rain. As we got further north to the French islands - Martinique and Guadeloupe it got more squally and more then once we had to put in a second deep reef . The Caribbean is awesome cruising area and the weather is a great for competent crew training , lots of reefing , shaking reef using KMT and trying different sail plans . BOAT LIFE in the BAHAMAS - SAILING, DIVING + Exploring the Central Abacos | Harbors Unknown Ep. 61 This week we’re sailing further south into the central stretch of the Abacos in the Bahamas, still in search of a SIM card for internet, cute Bahamian towns and beautiful reefs for admiring and hunting for fish. To avoid shallow shifting sands and shoaling in the Sea of Abaco we have to traverse the notorious Whale Cay Cut, known for swells and Abaco rage sea conditions, if the trip isn’t timed properly. We decide to go for it even though we have winds up to 20 knots from the northeast…conditions reported to cause the Abaco rage.
