Sailing into Esperance we arrive at Bandy Creek ready to explore the southern coast of Western Australia where we for a first have to watch out for horses swimming across the marina entrance. Riding our scooters into town we get a hire car and explore some the beautiful beaches around Esperance. After our short stay we head out to Woody Island where we get picked up by Uber Maritime and taken to shore. After having lunch and a quick walk around the island, we head towards O'Brien's Beach where we find there are 30 knot winds accelerating around Mount Le Grand so we move to Cape Le Grand Beach for more protection. Chris notices movement between the 2nd & 3rd furler extrusion tube join, so we remove our headsail in preparation to completing doing repairs in a remote location. How to mix and apply gelcoat over a small are. Step 1. Prepare the area. Aim for a smooth flat surface with no loose material. Abrade with p120 or coarser sandpaper. Clean thoroughly. Step 2. Apply a thin layer of gelcoat, allow to cure slightly. Apply a further layer or two. Step 3. Exclude air from the surface of the gelcoat. From the 21st of July through to the 5th of August, RS Sailing held the third quadrennial RS Games hosted by Weymouth & Portland National Sailing Academy. Jon Partridge, CEO (Commercial) of RS Sailing, commented – “It’s hard to put into words what the RS Games 2022 meant to RS Sailing, it’s always so inspiring to spend time at an event with our customers and we’ve been overwhelmed by the positive response we’ve received. We are so grateful to WPNSA and all our amazing partners that made this event possible. It was a truly special couple of weeks, we have made new friends, caught up with old ones and made memories that will last a lifetime”. Racing took place over 16 days in Portland Harbour and Weymouth Bay, and the number of boats on the water was a sight to behold. Competitors relished the range of conditions, from big days in the bay to fickle shifty breeze in the harbour. Conditions created some incredible racing and resulted in true champions being crowned with their new titles. Alex Newton Southon, CEO (Design & Technologies) of RS Sailing commented, “Congratulations to all the new champions from the RS Games and to all 1037 competitors that took part. It was incredible to see all sixteen classes racing, from the RS Tera to the RS21, and we’re so proud that our humble classes get so many people involved in our amazing sport”. Events like these are not possible without generous partners, and RS owe huge thanks to Rooster, Selden, Harken, Lifejacket, Marksetbot, RS Sailing Store and Kingfisher Yacht Ropes. The partners made the RS Games 2022 unforgettable by adding their own brand’s passion for the sport and the people in it. In deze aflevering zie je het tweede deel van onze toer over Dominica. We bezoeken een hot spa, botanische tuinen en de hoofdstad Roseau. Dan zeilen we naar Guadeloupe , waar we wederom netjes inklaren en uitklaren en vervolgens doorzeilen naar Antigua. De procedure om daar in te klaren is niet heel eenvoudig, maar ook daar slaan we ons doorheen. Met een huurauto verkennen we Antigua en maken kennis met de lokale bevolking, het enorme afval probleem en de prachtige vergezichten. Jarenlang heb ik ervan gedroomd om zeilend te gaan waar de wind me brengt. In 2020 was het dan eindelijk zover en heb ik samen met Felia een prachtige reis gemaakt naar Scandinavië en de Baltische staten. Onze Eva, een Atlantic 43 uit 2007, is een aluminium zeiljacht met hefkiel en gebouwd en uitgerust voor reizen naar plaatsen die net achter de horizon liggen. Vanaf 2021 vaar ik met wisselende bemanning zuidwaarts. Ik vind het leuk om onze avonturen met jullie te delen. Our friends at the Belhaven Marina went out of their way to assist us with some logistical challenges, and then we were off to a day of sailing in the Pamlico Sound and Neuse River on our way to Oriental. We Come across an old Lighthouse from the early 1800s. We swim with Jellyfish and luckily dont get stung. Some Goats get to meet Wanagi as we drive along the Coast of Southern Luzon.

This week has been a bit hectic. We are moving into the shed, where we tackle several projects at once. We mainly want to focus on prepping her for painting the hull and the cockpit area. Teak deck and rudder repair is first on the list as both will prove to be lengthy projects. Yes, we are trying to salvage the original teak. There are so many jobs a so little time. We are not sure we will make it in time before winter. Painting during the winter is not ideal.. fingers crossed then. We gotta hurry!

We had a heavy rainstorm with cars getting flooded on the state highway. So you could imagine how full of water everyone’s dinghies got. I just returned from a 7-night cruise from Southampton to Norway on the Celebrity Silhouette, and here is my review of that cruise. The Norwegian fjords are beautiful! We stopped at Haugesund, Olden (almost kinda!), Molde and Bergen and alongside 2 sea days crossing the North Sea, we covered quite a few nautical miles and went further North than Anchorage in Alaska... This was the second fullest any Celebrity ship has been anywhere in the word since the shutdown and it was great to see demand for cruising returning so strongly to the industry. Even if that created fierce competition for seats at the martini bar... The passenger load was 85% which alongside a staff load of 80% made for a slight service deficit early in the cruise, although the team adapted effectively over the first few days of the cruise. They even flew an entertainer in from New York when the scheduled entertainer was unable to perform - through injury we were told, rather than the you-know-what! This one is just for tie speed demon in me. The Marsaudon Composites ORC50! Today we are going to 1. Review its specifications, pricing and layout against three similar new vessels 2. Do a full tour asking, “What would Sylvia say?” …knowing full well that she wouldn’t even get on board. 3. Naval Gaze at an innovation and/or adjustment that might make life aboard easier (Hint...) 4. Have a look at the used market for 3-5 year old comparables (There are not many boats like this one) 5. And finally give it a “Dave Score” and compare the result with all our previously reviewed yachts. Created in 1999, Marsaudon Composites was, one of the first companies to establish itself in the former Submarine base in Lorient. It covers more than 7,000m² of production space on site. Our wine pairing with our yacht of choice this week is from the same area; Chateau De Sancerre Sancerre Rouge Pinot Noir. The history of the Sancerre vineyards goes back almost a thousand years, for it was in 11th and 12th centuries that monks in the surrounding districts began to cultivate vines. From the reign of Philippe-Augustus to the reign of Louis XVI, the Kings of France delighted in Sancerre The Chateau de Sancerre stands in the heart of the Sancerre vineyards. In 1874, the castle was rebuilt on its old site in the style of Louis XII. In 1919 it was purchased, along with part of the vineyards, by Louis Alexandre Marnier-Lapostolle. It was he who restored the vaults and the spiral staircase which flanked the "Feudal Tower" - the only remaining vestige of the medieval castle. Classic Sancerre-style pinot, light in colour with spicy, floral, cherry, licorice aromas. The attack is dry and savoury with sour cherry, smoky, peppery, celery salt. Euro-style in that dry and elegant food-friendly way. Starts off graceful, clean and bold, with soft, round tannins. Flavors of blackberry, blueberry and dark chocolate. The mid-palate is well balanced and supported by a touch of oak due to barrel ageing. The finish is light with notes of plum and violets.
