Helly Hansen Sailing World Regatta Series Caribbean Championship begins with a race around the British Virgin Islands' Cooper and Salt islands with nine race teams on Sunsail bareboat charters.

The second leg of the 2022 Helly Hansen Sailing World Regatta Series Caribbean Championship takes the fleet of nine competitors on borrowed Sunsail charterboats from the Baths to the Bitter End Yacht Club.

For long single-handed voyages, it's not realistic to be holding the tiller for hours on end. It's too tiring. So what's the answer? Obviously I could buy an auto-pilot. But I'm really intrigued by sheet-to-tiller steering - as it doesn't consume any battery power, and to set it up requires only a few very basic bits and pieces. Sheet-to-tiller steering allows the boat to sail by itself & all you need is a few metres of line, a couple of blocks, and a few bungee cords. Very cheap & very simple. It just requires some practice. This is my first attempt at getting it to work. In which I apply, unapply, reapply, unapply and reapply topside and nonskid deck paint. I used TotalBoat Topside Primer, Wet Edge and TotalTread nonskid paint. Although I followed the instructions as carefully as I could, the Wet Edge and the primer did not want to stick to each other and I pulled huge chunks of paint up with the painters tape I used to mark the lines. I have to say I wouldn't recommend using those products. Ladybug is a 1976 Bristol 34 centerboard sloop. I mostly use a Pixel 6 to shoot my videos. I edit in DaVinci Resolve. In this episode we prepare to set sail to Long Island for my brother and his girlfriends first passage on Gypsy Moon. Right from the get go we face issues with the engine not starting and it just continues to go downhill from there. Luckily we worked well together as a team to get things sorted and were able to sail smoothly the rest of the way... That is until the sun goes down and I get VERY sick as we approach the anchorage. To say the least throwing up overboard while also trying to hand steer into a new anchorage in the dark is NOT FUN. Thanks for watching! I installed an inspection port in the bow of my boat's cabin so I could inspect and access the backside of the bow eye. There's a bit of cracking and crazing in the exterior fiberglass around the the bow eye, and I wanted to be able to inspect the backing plate before deciding what repairs need to be done. This week we headed back to Splyt for what will probably be our last week in Croatia. I can't say enough good things about this place. It's been absolutely incredible. We took a hike up Marjan Hill for an incredible view of the whole city and coastline. There's a huge Croatian Flag and cross at the top of the hill. The hike is doable for just about anyone at just about one kilometer and it's so worth it! The views of the city and beaches are absolutely breathtaking. Check it out if you have the time! One tradition we've started is called Sailing Sundays. We find a couple or family that we don't know and invite them for an afternoon sail. We take them out on the Outremer, share a nice meal and go swimming or just get to know each other. It's been one of our favorite things to do out here because we get to meet so many great people and share this wonderful lifestyle we are so lucky to have. Plus we get to try a lot of new foods. The kids were not convinced that Vegemite is edible. The highlight of the week for us would not be a very big deal for a lot of people but getting a washing machine installed on the catamaran is a game changer for us. It's a small annoyance, but we've had to spend a lot of time dealing with laundry since we've taken to this 'boat life.' BOAT LIFE: The DIRTY SECRET We All Struggle With | Harbors Unknown Ep. 79 We’ve been cruising for 16 months now and it makes us proud to know that we generate our own power and make our own water, and as long as we provision enough food we can take our home so many places and experience the beauty of our amazing planet on our own terms. Today we’re sharing how we live off-grid on our sailing catamaran, how some people we meet in remote places like Kuna Yala live their lives, and the dirty secret we all struggle with. We rise with the sun, and take in our waterfront view from the comfort of our bed before starting our day. We check the batteries to make a very important decision- how we’ll make coffee, electric or gas kettle. With just 52% battery power, gas it is. We have about 45 gallons of water so we’ll make water today and wash some clothes. One of our neighboring Kuna’s sails by in his cayuco, a dugout canoe, just as we walk outside. Each morning off-grid starts like this. To power our lifestyle we have 1060 watts of solar, 720 amp hour lithium batteries, a Fischer Panda 10000i generator, and a 120 amp alternator on each engine. Our boat is 2 1/2 years old now and these items were purchased earlier than that. Lithium and solar technology has evolved immensely since then and most people we’ve talked to have a lot more solar and lithium on board. In this episode you’ll see how we get our seafood and produce here in Kuna Yala. I’m sure you can guess how we get our seafood, but I think you’ll be surprised about the produce. Taking Yoda for walks is also part of our routine & this is where you’ll see what it is we’re all struggling with out here. We met Ivin on a nearby island where he has embarked on a project to create honeymoon cabanas on the water. He’s removing brush, forging a conch-lined path, growing fruits & vegetables & sells amazing fresh baked coconut bread & focaccia all off-grid.
