Via de het Veerse Meer en de Oosterschelde varen we naar Sint Annaland waar we alle zeilen van Eva halen om ze naar de zeilmaker te brengen. Van Sint Annaland varen we naar Bruinisse en via Willemstad naar Dordrecht. Het laatste stuk gaat door de Biesbosch naar de voorlopige winterligplaats van Eva. Daar eindigt de verslaglegging van ons avontuur. Jarenlang heb ik ervan gedroomd om zeilend te gaan waar de wind me brengt. In 2020 was het dan eindelijk zover en heb ik samen met Felia een prachtige reis gemaakt naar Scandinavië en de Baltische staten. Onze Eva, een Atlantic 43 uit 2007, is een aluminium zeiljacht met hefkiel en gebouwd en uitgerust voor reizen naar plaatsen die net achter de horizon liggen. Vanaf 2021 vaar ik met wisselende bemanning zuidwaarts. Ik vind het leuk om onze avonturen met jullie te delen. erste Schritte des Refits Ausräumen, Abbau von Solarpaneelen und Kartentisch Unser Segelboot Squib, ein Catalac 9M, ist in die Jahre gekommen, die Verkleidung hängt teilweise von der Decke, die Farbe blättert ab, die Elektrik auf dem Stand des vorigen Jahrtausends,..... Ein Refit steht an. Doch Broterwerb und Verpflichtungen lassen es nicht zu, monatelang in Griechenland am Boot zu arbeiten. Da wird schon 2018 die Idee geboren Squib nach Wien zu bringen, wo man jederzeit Zugang hat, der Einkauf von Material in der Muttersprache abgewickelt werden kann und alles andere seinen gewohnten Verlauf nimmt. 2021 war es dann endlich soweit, mit zwei generalüberholten Motoren und einem neuen Geräteträger starteten wir Anfang Juli Richtung Südfrankreich.Leider hatten wir für die gesamte Reise nur zwei Monate Zeit, deswegen hieß es die meiste Zeit Strecke machen. Doch manchmal nahmen wir uns die Zeit zu verweilen, uns Orte näher anzuschauen. Hier zur Playlist dieser für ein Segelboot aussergewöhnlichen Reise quer durchs Mittelmeer und über die europäischen Binnenwasserstraßen. Am vierten September kamen wir in Wien an, 980 Seemeilen und 2120 km über die europäischen Wasserstraßen lagen hinter uns. Seitdem liegt Squib in der Wiener Kuchelau, und der Refit hat bereits begonnen. Stuck on the ICW through Georgia, we weren't offered much in terms of novel views. As we crossed the Savannah River into Georgia, we saw more marshland on the ICW, had more bald eagle and dolphin sightings, and we did our best to at least motorsail our way south. We did get to witness the recovery efforts of the capsized Golden Ray cargo ship, a disaster which resulted in more than $200 million in damage, caused by incorrect calculations about the vessel's stability. This version of Episode 59 includes minimal edits to video and audio. This is intended to allow us to roll out more videos weekly in order to encourage greater engagement with our audience, and also to allow us to catch up to current time a bit quicker. ** NOW SOLD ** Carpe Diem is a versatile family cruiser or even fun club racer. Carpe Diem enjoyed all new standing rigging in August 2020 plus new main and self-tacking headsail by Elvstrom also in 2020. There is an overlapping #1 genoa plus asymmetric spinnaker making this a very flexible sail plan. The full six winches were chosen on original order as was the cockpit traveller which gives maximum control and assists when sailing short-handed. This is the three double cabin layout with large owners cabin forward. There is a large saloon opposite further seating and the nav / control station. The galley sits to starboard with top and side loading fridge. The head and shower space is large and practical and importantly features a proper folding shower screen. Two double cabins are aft. Nav instruments are by Raymarine plus the under-deck auto-pilot was replaced new just last year. Access to the water or onto a dinghy is easy via the open transom plus there is a custom swim / boarding platform. Carpe Diem is a one owner boat which has been professionally serviced annually. Her last anti-foul and engine serviced was completed in April 2022. The 375’s are known for their sleek lines, easy handling and versatility.

** NOW SOLD ** Clonnie is a 2015 Hanse 345. This is a modern, easy, and quick cruiser in great condition. The cockpit is super impressive with twin wheels and a large boarding / swim platform. All lines are led aft to the winches directly in front of the helms. In addition, there is an auto-pilot and self-tacking headsail so single-handed sailing couldn’t be easier. There is a colour B&G chart plotter in the folding cockpit table. This is the preferred two cabin layout which allows for the massive head and shower space plus the cockpit storage which is accessible internally and via the cockpit. Clonnie features the Italian Oak cabinetry and upgraded upholstery. Clonnie has been professionally and regularly maintained since new: rudder bearings 2020, new sails and boom bag 2020, new sail drive 2022, annual rig-check June 2022. The Hanse 345 is a seriously versatile package. Clonnie would suit someone wanting to step into a late model ready to go option.

This week’s guest yacht is the third and smallest of the Outremer line we have looked at, made famous by Sailing La Vagabond… The Outremer 45! Today we are going to 1. Review its specifications, pricing and layout against three similar new vessels. 2. Do a full tour asking, “What would Sylvia say?” 3. Naval Gaze at an innovation and/or adjustment that might make life aboard easier. 4. Have a look at the used market for 3-5 year old comparables 5. And finally give it a “Dave Score” and compare the result with all our previously reviewed yachts. Hovering above Vancouver British Columbia, we fly across the Atlantic to the West Coast of France and the home of last week’s yacht at the Privilege yards in Les Sables-d'Olonne. From here we head South East across France to La Grand-Motte and the yards of Outremer and Gunboat. For our wine pairing this week we head South down the coast to Narbonne and the vineyards of Gérard Bertrand. Our pairing is Gerard Bertrand Domaine d'Aigle Pinot Noir One of the highest situated domains in Languedoc Roussillon with a terroir similar to that of Burgundy, the estate is cultivated in biodynamic agriculture certified Demeter since the 2018 vintage. Domaine de l'Aigle Pinot Noir 2020 was rated 93/100 by Decanter. The grapes are harvested by hand and transported in boxes to the cellar. The grapes are destemmed and sorted in order to eliminate all the vegetal parts of the bunch. A pre-fermentation cold maceration of 5 to 8 days is carried out with regular punching of the cap. At the beginning of the alcoholic fermentation, the cap is punched down, then, little by little, in order to better control the extraction of the aromas and the tannins, it is replaced by pumping over. The pressing is delicate with a pneumatic press. The malolactic fermentation and the maturation of 9 to 12 months take place in French oak barrels. Finally, the wines from the different barrels are blended after racking. Derain was born on June 17, 1880 in Chatou, just outside of Paris. He began his training by attending painting classes under French symbolist, Eugène Carrière at the Académie Carriere (1898-1899). While at school, he befriended Henri Matisse, and in 1900, he met Maurice de Vlaminck, with whom he later shared a studio. The three often painted together, and were instrumental figures in each other’s artistic development. Derain spent the summer of 1905 with Matisse in Collioure, a small village in the South of France. This was a pivotal period for the artist: he explored techniques of Impressionism and Post-Impressionism and produced paintings such as Mountains at Collioure (1905) and Boats of Collioure (1905). These landscapes assimilated an impressionist subject with a divisionist technique, and the bold color palettes of Van Gogh and Gauguin. Derain showed many of his new paintings at the 1905 exhibition Salon d’Automne (Autumn Salon).
