► The competition took placed in Port Ginesta located just 15 minutes from Barcelona. This port has grown to become a leading catamaran marina all over Europe. The event was organized in two stages with a test which started on Saturday, a short leg of one mile, and continue Sunday with a long race. Six multihulls registered for this first edition: 1 C-Cat 48, 1 Catana 431 and 1 Catana 582, 1 Fountaine Pajot Belize 43, 1 Dragon Fly 920 Evolution and 1 Nautitech 40 Open. The Multihull Rally & Race has been supported by the main multihull distributors in Spain: Catamarans Barcelona (Lagoon), Med Cat Group (Bali), Hermanos Guasch (Excess) and Catamaran Center (Catana). Also, Pedro Egea, from Catamaran Center, contributed with his Powercat Philysa that hosted the regatta committee. Even thought, we had few winds knots all the participants were happy and enjoyed this amazing experience. In addition to the sporting and participatory aspect of this event, the social feature should not be forgotten. Thanks to the organization of dinners animated by music, all the participants were able to spend a nice moment of relaxation and fun. We set sail on an ocean passage from Mazatlan, Mexico to Nuku Hiva in the Marquesas Islands. Sailing across an ocean has been a long-held dream for us, but we were not planning on extending this cruise so far from home. But, we realized that if we were serious about bluewater cruising, the time was right. We decided to take the leap and sail 2800 nautical miles across the open ocean, reaching the fabled south sea islands. Cruising the South Pacific is on the bucket list for any sailor, and completing this passage has been one of the most rewarding experiences we have ever done. We left Mazatlan on March 23rd, and arrived at Nuku Hiva on April 16th, totalling 24 days and 9 hours at sea. We covered around 2900 nautical miles, used less than half our water and a fourth of our fuel. We motored 35 hours and each of us stood 73 four hour watches. Julia is an Ingrid Ketch, designed by William Atkin and built in 1960. She is a traditional wooden boat, built of doug fir planking on oak frames. The length on deck is 37.5 ft and the waterline is 30 ft. She handled the open ocean brilliantly, it was obvious that this was exactly the type of sailing she was built for. We sail our Leopard 45 catamaran around the north fork of Long Island, N.Y. to Greenport and Shelter Island. Then on to Buzzards Bay and Cuttyhunk and Onset. Yep, you read that right. Our windows are falling out of our boat. Don't you hate it when that happens? This is a know problem with the tint flaking off the windows. The tint was painted on all the way to the edge of the glass, and the adhesive was attached to the tint. When it flakes off the glass, there goes the adhesion. And we're on our way to New England! Luckily, we have friends in Rhode Island who told us where to have them fixed. Problem is, we won't be there for another 6 weeks. Luckily, again, we have a few friend who gave us suggestions that will keep us on the water safely until we get there. So, here we are. Boat hacks all around! Derniers jours à Grenade où nous reprenons la mer pour remonter tranquillement vers la Martinique. On refait un stop sur Ronde Island que nous avons adorer, avant de repasser par Carriacou visiter quelques endroits que nous n'avions pas fait à la descente. Ce mois-ci, on vous embarque dans une navigation de quatre jours entre Grenade, au Sud de l'arc antillais, et Bonaire, l'île la plus à l'Est des Petites Antilles Néerlandaises: 400 milles sur une mer idyllique, 15 nœuds au portant tout du long, grand soleil - même pas un grain à l'horizon. Nous sommes exceptionnellement trois à bord, car un ami du Pays Basque (pêcheur et fin gourmet) nous a rejoints pour quelques semaines! Petite surprise avant l'appareillage: on vous emmène en excursion à Ronde Island, quelques milles au Nord de l'île de Grenade. Petite surprise à l'arrivée: un exercice non prévu de mise à la cape! J'en profite pour préciser que toutes les explications "techniques" sont données sans prétention par quelqu'un qui continue de découvrir la voile (en l'occurrence, le mousse), avec l'unique souci de rendre cette vidéo accessible à des non navigants... This is Episode 56 of our adventure. Our seventh week sailing the west coast of France. We spend an extra day in Vannes, Hugh tries to do some building whilst Kelly and the kids go and explore the city of the petit train. We leave Vannes and anchor next to an inhabited island ad have fu exploring and building sandcastles. We start to head back the way we came calling in at Port Du Crouesty, then a choppy passage to Port Haleguen then an eventful passage back to the Lorient with injury, electrocution and sickness. The week culminated with a stolen washing bag and realising our French has improved! We are a family of five with plans for an epic adventure, sailing around the world. We have bought a boat we have to gut it, rebuild it, sell all of our possessions and have the guts to cast off. Follow our adventures. Un catamarano sportivo e performante? Ogni volta che se ne parla sento spesso i soliti commenti del tipo “Voglio vederlo di bolina” oppure “Sai che botte con mare formato” e “Ma quelli sono fatti per stare fermi in porto mica per navigare”. Beh, con l’Excess 14 avrete sicuramente modo di ricredervi una volta provato. Il DNA sportivo di questa imbarcazione disegnata da VPLP di Lorient per Excess Catamarans, specializzata in catamarani oceanici e da regata si sente e non poco e se fosse un monoscafo sarei tentato di chiamarlo Performance Cruiser. Ma cominciamo dal principio… In occasione della nuova edizione del Salone Nautico Internazionale mi telefona Dario comunicandomi la disponibilità di un Excess 14 appena arrivato ma già in procinto di partire. Mi chiede “Vieni a provarlo?” ed io rispondo “Ma certo” e così ci organizziamo per una video prova/trasferimento che potrete vedere sul canale Youtube di Giornale della Vela. Ci troviamo a Lavagna dove ci prendiamo un paio di giorni di comodo per portare fuori questo gioiellino creato dal cantiere Excess Catamarans, marchio del gruppo Beneteau. La prima cosa che noto appena prima di salire a bordo è, oltre alla grafica molto accattivante, le linee degli scafi che sembrano non aspettare altro che di prendere velocità in navigazione.
