L'objectif : passer 24h avec le skipper de renom, Arnaud Boissières, ayant à son actif 4 Vendée Globe, à bord de 3 voiliers 100% aluminium, les OVNI 370 - 400 et 450 ! Ainsi, l'expérience a commencé au sein même du chantier Alubat avec l'accueil des candidats par le Directeur Général, Luc Jurien. Luc, ayant lui-même navigué pendant 8 ans en charter d'expédition à bord de son OVNI 56 "Bulle", expose l'activité actuelle du chantier. Ce mot de bienvenue a été suivi d'une visite complète du chantier pendant laquelle les candidats ont pu découvrir les différentes étapes de construction des voiliers et rencontrer l'équipe. Une découverte appréciée avant d'embarquer à bord des OVNI au Port Olona ! - - - On the occasion of the MasterClass on the theme "Prepare for blue water cruising" with Arnaud Boissières, Alubat received 19 candidates and journalists from Voile Magazine in Les Sables d'Olonne. The objective: to spend 24 hours aboard 3 100% aluminum sailboats, the OVNI 370 - 400 and 450, with the renowned skipper, Arnaud Boissières, having 4 Vendée Globe done ! Thus, the experience began within the Alubat shipyard itself with the welcome of candidates by the Managing Director, Luc Jurien. Luc, having himself sailed for 8 years on an expedition charter aboard his OVNI 56 "Bulle", explains the current activity of the shipyard. This word of welcome was followed by a complete visit of the site during which the candidates were able to discover the different stages of construction of the sailboats and meet the team. A discovery appreciated before boarding the OVNIs at Port Olona!

Over the winter we sailed every week out in Port Townsend Bay and the surrounding areas. We would also take the ferry to the Eastside where the kids had their school program. I recently spent a week on the Norwegian Epic, cruising the Western Mediterranean. The Epic is an odd ship. According to Wikipedia (so it must be true!!!) it was ordered from a shipyard in France alongside a sister ship. As construction was underway, Norwegian had a change of ownership and the new owners insisted on changes to the ship's design as it was being built. I'm speculating now, but it wouldn't surprise me if that 4 story lump at the front of the ship (which houses the Haven complex) was a last-minute add on as it just doesn't look right and doesn't really fit with the design of the rest of the ship.... This soured relations with the shipyard and meant that the sister ship was never built... So the Epic is unique and has a number of features which were never repeated. In this video I'll offer a ship's tour, packaged in a "day in a life" format to make the video a little more interesting than the usual "ship tour" video. Whilst these videos are usually unopinionated so as to just present the ship, I couldn't resist giving some of my own opinions at the end... Leopard 45 Feb 6th 2023 update. Just received confirmation from Leopard: The construction of the 50 is a sandwich of e-glass & PVC foam core. The 1st layer is vinylester and additional layers are polyester resin. The vinylester being more resistant to osmosis. I assume that this is true across the line. So much bad info out there on this point I thought you should know for sure. Affectionately still called Hermitage by the many old timers, it creates superbly drinkable wines festooned with red fruits, spice and surprising structure to age gracefully. This tribute to their wine-making past was hand crafted from selected parcels of old bush vines spread across the Cape, that have resolutely withstood time and showcases this varietal’s essence. The historical Natte Valleij Farm situated at the foot of the Simonsberg is not a new cellar, it’s just been resting for the last 50 years. Famed for its brandy in years gone by, it was one of the largest cellars in the area, but sadly winemaking ceased in the 50’s. It was bought by the Milner Family in the late 60’s and for 27 years it bred some of South Africa’s finest racehorses. It was in 2005, that wine was once again made on the farm and the sound of barrels rolling could be heard. For enjoying the pleasure of foiling the iFLY, you do not necessarily need to be a young gun, athlete or equilibrist. Having never sailed on a catamaran and without any trapezing experience, Laser sailor Ivo from the Netherlands travelled to Garda for his individual iFLY coaching session. He was hoping to experience some foiling, but rather 2Up, together with his coach on the iFLY. Things turned out to be so different... After an impressive fast learing curve, Ivo found enough confidence to be foiling single handed. He achieved not only flying downwind, but also full foiling upwind, during his first day of trapezing. In the beginning, he preferred to stay seated on the trampoline, which allowed some nice foiling downwind. It is not a single case. During iFLY test sessions and at coaching of new iFLY owners we experience similar breath-taking success on regular skills. I capsized once and that was not because of being overpowered it was because I lost my footing, and righting the boat went smoothly and without incident. The secret of the iFly15 is it is a highly technical machine made to be easy to sail and incredibly accessible. It is compact with not too much sail area and it is very easy to take the power out of the sail and to comfortably sit in an upward position and catch your breath. Safe and in control, on my first day alone out on the water I finally understood what a great boat this is, and I absolutely love it. » Taylor Benjamin Anderson, Hobie cat recreational sailor from Miami, after his first flight on iFLY: « I am at a loss for words to properly convey the feeling of sailing your boat but here is my best attempt: As a casual sailor with an average working knowledge of boats, I was extremely surprised how familiar the ifly 15 felt when I jumped on it to demo the boat in February of this year. I grew up sailing the Hobie family of catamarans but never raced and had never sailed a foiling craft but was immediately impressed by the self-leveling technology of the vessel. Michael was extremely patience and passionately shared his creation with me for several hours. This boat makes a seasoned sailor feel like they are experiencing sailing for the first time. It is an almost indescribable feeling, the ultimate harnessing of the wind. By the end of the afternoon, I felt confident that I could handle the boat alone and cannot wait to sail it again!!

This is a tour around a 2013 Hylas 56. It was our favourite boat at Annapolis this year. A bit large for a cruising couple, but it really makes us want to see an old 49 (which had an encapsulated keel) or the new 48. This is a bit more complicated than a straight Hylas review though. Showing us around is Kyle from Bluewater Yachts. Kyle is planning on keeping the Hylas 56 going under the Bluewater Yacht name. Hylas themselves have discontinued the 56 and replaced it with the 57 and 60 which have redesigned hulls with twin rudders. It seems like a complicated, and not an altogether smoothly running, story with Bluewater Yachts buying the mould and originally taking over the tooling for the 56 at the same yard that builds the Outbound. In fact, hull number one was released as an Outbound. Finishing 750 miles of sailing down the pacific coastline of Baja California arriving in Cabo San Lucas. We provision and continue sailing into the Sea of Cortez. This video showcases our trip from Santa Maria to Cabo San Lucas as well as through to Los Muertos. Keeping the catamaran afloat, wife happy, and the toddler sane as I (Jeremy) celebrate a birthday.
