It was the year 1873 when Lorenzo Benetti founded the Benetti shipyard in Viareggio. Benetti sailing vessels, such as the legendary Barcobestia, gain global acclaim for their unrivalled speed and seaworthiness. Benetti laid the foundations for its future with daring nautical challenges such as the construction in 1921 of the 51M Brigantino San Giorgio, the largest ship to proudly sail the waves of the Mediterranean at the time. In 1962 Lorenzo Benetti shared his grandfather's visionary spirit, presenting the revolutionary Delfino at the first Genoa boat show. The modern luxury yacht was born and Benetti was its creator. Four years later the Gabbiano 22M, took the world by storm, captivating the attention of prominent personalities such as Prince Rainer and Grace Kelly and in 1967, the launch of the Mediterraneo marked another triumph and defined what would become the iconic Benetti style for years to come. Benetti navettes became objects of desire for celebrities around the globe, including the legendary David Bowie who purchased one in 1977 and named it El Caran. In 1979 Benetti launched the 86M Nabila, the most famous yacht in the world. Commissioned by Saudi businessman Adnan Khashoggi, it was the first and largest gigayacht ever built. It starred in many scenes of the James Bond film "Never Say Never Again" while the parties organised aboard became the stuff of legends. It even inspired the Queen song "Kashoggi's Ship", in which Freddie Mercury shared tales of the band's adventures on board. In 1985 Paolo Vitelli, the founder of Azimut Yachts, acquired Benetti with a very clear vision of becoming a leading player in the yachting world. The Azimut | Benetti Group was born, beginning a new and exciting era. The carnival in Fort-de-France, Martinique, is one of the biggest during the carnival season in Caribbean. It's a huge celebration and it felt like everyone in the city participated during this 4 day fiesta. If you can plan you Caribbean cruising to be in Martinique mid February - you should definitely go here! The exact time for the carnival varies in sync with the lent period, so be sure to check out the schedule for each year. If you don't want to watch everything, you should at least see the start of the carnival, that was the day with the most energy! The 2023 NOD (Nepean One Design) regatta, on June 17-18, had 50 boats racing on two race courses on Lac Deschenes, with 110 competitors competing in J/22, J/80, Shark 24, Viper 640, 505, Fireball and Albacore on the middle and upper courses. Vielmehr verfliegen die Tage, kleine und größere Reparaturen fallen an, Cingene muss noch mal zum Arzt und wenn an Bord der Dilly-Dally alles rund läuft, dann hilft man Freunden. Karsten, unser dänischer Freund, ist am Rande eines Nervenzusammenbruchs. Es scheint fast unmöglich, dass er seinen Hund Dino im Flieger mit zurück in die Türkei nehmen kann. Und als dann die größten Probleme gelöst zu sein scheinen, geht es erst richtig los. Fast täglich ergießen sich kräftige Regenschauer über der Prickly Bay, schließlich hat ja auch die Regenzeit begonnen. Und nicht nur das: Offiziell steht die Hurrikan-Saison vor der Tür. Und tatsächlich bildet sich draußen auf dem Atlantik bereits der erste Sturm mit dem Potenzial für einen Hurrikan. Die Wetterdienste schlagen Alarm. So früh im Jahr ist das ein ungewöhnliches Phänomen. Und das Dumme: Bret, so wurde der mögliche Hurrikan getauft, nimmt Kurs auf die Karibik.

Проснулись в 7 утра, искупались, позавтракали и отправились в обратную дорогу вдоль западного побережья Гваделупы...Первая остановка - пляж "Bouillante". Изюминкой данного пляжа является небольшая горная речка, берущая свое начало на вершине вулкана "Soufriere". Температура воды в реке 80 °C. Впадает в море... Очень популярное место, всегда много народа. Как близко (находясь в воде) вы можете приблизиться к месту где река впадает в море зависит от вашего болевого порога... Большинство людей определяет тепловое воздействие как болезненное, когда температура достигает 50 °C. Если вы такой же, можно сказать, что у вас средний болевой порог. Если больно вам становится уже при 40–45 °C — значит, ваш болевой порог снижен. Температура воды в реке 80 °C. Если вы упадете в эту речку - моментальная смерть - вы просто напросто сваритесь ... После пары-тройки часов на этом пляже снялись с якоря и отправились дальше на ЮГ. После 30 минут пути зашли в бухту чтобы пообедать... женщины приготовили шикарный гороховый суп-пюре... После обеда продолжили свой пусть на Юг и дошли до самой южной точки острова (там действующий маяк). I've had some helpful suggestions of various ways to reef under sail, aside from going hove-to. They are: 1. Using the mainsail to keep the boat head-to-wind, 2. Letting all the sails go, and 3. Close-hauled under jib with mainsail slack. So I give these three methods a go. And I also try out an adjustment to the hove-to position.

Are you ready to take your sailboat out for its first trip of the season? It's important to properly commission your boat to ensure a safe and enjoyable experience. In this video, we'll walk you through the steps of commissioning your mast. The mast is crucial to the safety and operation of any sailboat. Ted Weyhrauch from Innovative Marine is in charge of this critical component. He is responsible for setting up all the equipment that will go on the mast such has TV Antenna, Dissipator, Wind Vane, and specialized equipment such as Radar, SSB, VHF, cellular antenna, etc. Another critical component of the mast is setting up the spreaders, shrouds, stays and installing tracks for the spinnaker pole. All of this and the associated wiring that goes with it, has to be run and staged so it can run into the boat as the mast is step. This is critical as some of the wiring in question is high frequency as Ted has to setup a complete run from the top of the mast to the panel where the equipment will be connected to, making the measuring and setup process critical. So you will see how much has to be planned and setup before your sailing yacht is ready for its first sail.
