This German Frers 651 combines timeless design with serious sailing performance. Built with solid craftsmanship and recently extensively refitted, she is ready for comfortable and safe shorthanded sailing. Highlights include a furling genoa and staysail, three electric main winches, bow thruster, and all reefing lines led to the cockpit. In 2022 she received a new 12 mm teak deck, new rod rigging and new sails, making her a very complete and well-prepared sailing yacht for longer passages or relaxed coastal cruising. This yacht will be auctioned online via Bright Auctions, offering a unique opportunity to acquire a well-known German Frers design. Want to see her in person? Solo sailing deep into the southern Bahamas 🇧🇸 In this episode of Sailing Mirage, I sail alone from Little Inagua Island to Great Inagua Island, arriving in Matthew Town - the most remote settlement in the entire Bahamas island chain. It was a beautiful, steady downwind passage with deep blue water, sunshine, and great spirits - just how I like it. 🌊☀️ What I didn’t expect was the arrival… In Matthew Town, every yacht arrival is an event. Locals quickly gathered around, full of curiosity and warmth, asking questions about sailing, my boat, my passages, and - most of all - how solo sailing is even possible. :) As a bonus, I hired a local guide to explore this unique island: 🧂 Morton’s Salt - one of the largest salt production facilities in the world 🦩 Flamingos feeding on saltwater pink shrimp 🗼 The historic lighthouse built by the British in 1870 🐚 And a rare local conch cookout, ending the day with an incredible fresh conch salad This is sailing at the edge of civilization - simple, human, welcoming, and unforgettable. If you enjoy real ocean passages, remote places, and the human side of sailing, you’re in the right place. ⚓ Fair winds, Vlad Sailing Mirage

Welcome to the Sailing and Cruising the East Coast of the United States Podcast! In this episode, hosts Bela Musits and Mike Wasserman chat with longtime sailor Chris Blankenship, a passionate mariner based in New Jersey. Chris is a perfect guest for anyone looking to find new, creative ways to expand their sailing experiences and build expertise. Chris shares his extensive personal history on the water. He details his progression through different boats, starting with the beginner-friendly Catalina 22, moving up to a Catalina 27, a 34-foot Gemini catamaran, and his current vessel, a PDQ32 catamaran. He talks about the joys and challenges of cruising in his local New Jersey bay, a spot often skipped by those transiting the ICW. He also recounts the recent two-week delivery trip from Brunswick, Georgia, to New Jersey on his new PDQ32, explaining why they chose to stay on the Intracoastal Waterway due to his wife’s seasickness and concerns about the boat's new davits. The core of the conversation focuses on Chris’s incredible experiences as a crew member on numerous long passages and boat deliveries. He explains that he secures these opportunities, which often involve working with professional captains, through an organization called OPO (Offshore Passage Opportunities). OPO helps vet both the captains and the crew, which is vital for safety and matching skills. Chris gives a firsthand account of a major international delivery: flying to France to join a new catamaran and undertaking a multi-stage journey that included a 19-day Transatlantic crossing via the Canary Islands. This episode is a must-listen for aspiring blue water sailors. Chris’s story proves that you don't need to own your own large yacht to gain valuable offshore sailing experience. He offers practical advice and highlights the supportive nature of the sailing community. Is your sailboat about to lose its marina slip? In 2026, marina managers are quietly purging sailboats to make room for high-profit powerboats. This isn't a conspiracy theory—it's a business decision driven by revenue, space management, and a shift toward luxury branding. In this video, we expose the 5 Brutal Reasons why marinas are kicking out sailboats: The Profit Gap: Why powerboats generate more revenue per foot than sailboats. Wasted Space: How masts and drafts limit slip flexibility. The "Ugly Boat" Rule: Why older vessels are being labeled as liabilities. Docking Drama: The staffing headaches caused by inexperienced sailors. The New Image: Why marinas want Instagram-ready docks (and your boat doesn't fit). If you own a sailboat, you need to understand the new rules of the game before you get an eviction notice. ⏱️ CHAPTERS: 00:00 Intro: The Quiet Purge 01:02 1. Powerboats Bring More Profit 02:47 2. This week we’re in Hammock Beach Marina, Florida, tackling one of the dirtiest jobs on the boat… the anchor locker 🤢⚓ With a major upgrade underway, we clean out over a year's worth of grime and install our new Rocna MKII stainless steel anchor. There’s one very specific reason we’re switching to stainless! While tied up at the marina, we dive into some deep cleaning of our cockpit lockers (because cruising chaos is very real). Before leaving, we also have the hull scraped, and the difference in speed once we’re back underway is honestly unreal. We then cast off from Hammock Beach Marina and sail south to New Smyrna Beach, continuing our journey down the Florida coast as we move closer and closer to our upcoming Pacific crossing. Boat life isn’t always glamorous, but every messy job like this brings us one step closer to the adventure we’re chasing. Season Seven Show No. 151 Inside Great Lakes Sailing - Molly Vandemoer US Olympic Director, PHRF????
INSIDE GREAT LAKES SAILING SEASON SEVEN SHOW NO. 151 - We begin our seventh season early, much like 2026, because we have an interview of note that we thought should see the light of day and since Mother Nature has even us ardent skiers crouched near the resort fire place, here's our first installment for the new year. Inside Great Lakes Sailing was proud to interview Marcus Lynch, the appointed head of US Sailing's Olympic arm two years ago and we struck gold, so to speak, twice, because we are the first to bring you a video interview of the latest to lead US Sailing Olympians, Molly Vandemoer, a former World Champion and US Olympic team member. Molly was appointed US Sailings Olympic director by CEO Charlie Enright three weeks ago. The appointment of Ms. Vandemoer was a spectacular move by those who run US Sailing and you'll learn that for yourself by listening to her speak. We also wanted to leave you with some bar room chatter about PHRF and how US Sailing and the various regional handicapping bodies might work in a more harmonious way. Our resident sail boat handicapper, and former Barthel Trophy winner, Keith Stauber, stops in to raise the question, can we improve the PHRF process by crawling back into bed with US Sailing.....the conversation might scare you, so sit down in front of the television or the computer and take a break from the cold of winter and think about those warm summer breezes with Inside Great Lakes Sailing.

We live self-reliant in Alaska aboard a four-season sailboat. In this video, we share our first weeks living aboard after leaving the shipyard, settling into winter life afloat in Southeast Alaska. From deciding whether to anchor or stay in the harbor, to learning the boat, navigating weather, earning income, and finding our rhythm again, this is what real life aboard actually looks like. Alaskan Gypsy Life documents self-reliance on the water, lived day by day and season by season. No performance, no exaggeration. Just the reality of building a capable, intentional life afloat in Alaska. Welcome back to another episode if WE|Sail. Two weeks ago: back-to-back cyclone warnings, hunkered down in a marina. Today: isolated paradise, not a cloud in sight. This is the reality of sailing full time—the ocean operates on its own schedule, and your plans don't matter. In this episode, we're living through cyclone season in Fiji, where beautiful mornings turn to buckets of rain in hours. We tackle boat repairs, catch rainwater, sync our lives to the sun's rhythm, and embrace the unpredictability that comes with living in the elements. After 7 years of full-time cruising, we're still amazed by how quickly everything can change. This is the raw, unfiltered version of life on a sailboat—the gorgeous days, the sudden storms, the constant problem-solving, and the rare moments of peace that make it all worth it. Because it’s there. Plus, it will make a great adventure for our growing boys who are learning how to dream BIG. Why not come along for the ride? This is the final video in our journey up to the Arctic Ocean. This part of the story begins on the road between Anchorage and Fairbanks, Alaska. After taking in the views of Denali we arrive to Fairbanks for some final preparations before setting out on the rugged Dalton Highway. This road is known as the haul road as it is primarily used to supply the oil drilling facilities in Deadhorse, Alaska. Our trip starts smoothly and we were very fortunate to have clear weather. Our first day on the haul road ends on the Wiseman River near Coldfoot. Since the weather was good, we were able to take a bunch of drone footage giving the viewer a great visualization of what this road is all about. After weaving through the mountains of the Brooks Range, we settled down onto the tundra which is a landscape that few get to experience. It was worth the drive. The pinnacle of our trip is the realization that we just drove to the end of our world. You just can’t drive any further. That night we observed some of the mischievous wildlife and prepared for our cold plunge in the Arctic Ocean the next day. Since the shore is leased by the oil companies, we had to take a shuttle to get to the ocean. Our goal of swimming in the Arctic Ocean was achieved as we waded into 39F water. Not bad for some middle-aged parents and a 9 & 6 year old. Wait to see what we come up with next! We hope you enjoy. 00:00 - Intro 00:26 - Series Recap 00:42 - Driving to Fairbanks 02:03 - Prepping for the Dalton Highway 03:20 - Starting the haulroad 06:01 - Arctic Circle 07:06 - Coldfoot, AK 08:00 - Brooks Range campsite 09:13 - Treeline 09:57 - Atigun Pass 12:35 - The North Slope 14:25 - Arriving to Deadhorse 16:39 - Deadhorse campsite 17:57 - Mischievous wildlife 19:27 - Shuttle and Arctic Ocean cold plunge

Sailing has a reputation for being expensive — elitist, out of reach, and reserved for people with deep pockets. But that reputation isn’t coming from real sailors. In this video, I break down one of the biggest myths in boating: that sailing is only for the wealthy. I’m not saying sailing is free. I am saying that the idea you need to be rich to sail is one of the most effective lies the boating industry ever sold. I’ve owned around 20 boats over the years, including boats that cost less than a used jet ski — and some that cost nothing at all. Most of them were older fiberglass boats that did exactly what they were designed to do: sail. If you’ve ever stood on a dock and thought, “That life isn’t for me,” this video is for you. This beautiful piece of mid-century, Sparkman & Stephen-designed sailing hardware in all its glossy mahogany glory, OPPOSITION, formerly Ted Heath’s second MORNING CLOUD, is as fine and as famous an example as they come from an era when racing yachts - even those built to the then quite new IOR Rule - could still look beautiful to anyone’s eye. https://www.sandemanyachtcompany.co.uk/yacht/699/OPPOSITION%20(EX%20MORNING%20CLOUD%20II) Sixteen years on from a major rebuild undertaken at her original builders, Clare Lallow, OPPOSITION still looks just out of restoration and comes available just when interest in boats of her era is on the rise. A new class for such yachts has been inaugurated by C.I.M. at the Mediterranean classic regattas. OPPOSITION is very carefully laid up indoors and is in antifoul and go condition.
