Finalmente ritorniamo in patria dopo tanti anni di Grecia. La traversata nel mar Ionio è stata abbastanza sofferta. Siamo partiti sfruttando una finestra tra varie perturbazioni affrontando mare e vento. Nella prima notte c'è chi è andato in panico, gli altri non erano molto affidabili per governare il timone. Le onde hanno smosso tutto lo sporco accumulato sul fondo dei serbatoi che ha otturato filtri e circuito per la nafta. Grazie al vento siamo riusciti ad avvicinarci a circa 25 miglia da Crotone, le ultime miglia le abbiamo fatte grazie ad un day tank improvvisato.

Betsy has worked at US Sailing for nearly two decades, currently leading the Adult Sailing department. She is a five time Rolex Yachtswoman of the Year winner and has dominated an array of different boat classes throughout her professional career. Betsy coached the most successful Paralympic sailing team of all time. In an ironic turn of events for the Hall of Fame racer, Betsy became a para athlete in 2022 after a battle with cancer. Shortly after her recovery, she was standing on top of the podium in the Netherlands at the 2023 Sailing World Championships with a gold medal around her neck.

요트의 워터탱크 수도 필터와 빌지펌프 필터, 그리고 수도 꼭지 필터를 청소했다. 얼마 전 워터탱크를 청소해서인지, 필터에는 미끌거리는 녹색 이물질이 제법 많이 끼어 있었다. 이런 필터를 주기적으로 관리해 주지 않으면 펌프가 고장 나기 쉽다. 하나하나 작업을 하다 보니 배관과 부속 부위들을 자연스럽게 살펴보게 되었고, 이 배가 처음 어떻게 설치되었는지도 함께 들여다볼 수 있었다. 요트라는 작은 삶의 공간 안에 생각보다 훨씬 많은 장비와 시설들이 들어가야 하다 보니, 배관과 부속들이 복잡하게 얽힌 채 설치되어 있다는 걸 새삼 느낀다. 요트 사용자는 그 편리함에 감탄하고, 요트 관리자는 그 복잡함에 감탄하는 것 같다. 오늘 같은 작업은 비교적 수월한 편이라, 서두르지 않고 쉬엄쉬엄 즐기듯 마무리했다.

So brechen wir auf nach Neukaledonien, welches zu Frankreich gehört und aus Dutzenden Inseln besteht. Die Hauptinsel Grand Terre ist bekannt für die artenreiche Lagune, die mit 24.000 km² zu den größten weltweit gehört. Wir gehen in einer abgelegenen Bucht vor Anker bevor wir am darauffolgenden Morgen zur Hauptstadt Nouméa verholen, um einzuklarieren. Neukaledonien hat einen vergleichbaren Lebensstandard wie Australien, Neuseeland oder Fidschi – Amtssprache ist Französisch. Wir nutzen das nächste Wetterfenster, um an die australische Ostküste überzusetzen und klarieren in Southport ein. Die Einklarierungsregeln in Australien sind berüchtigt. Wir haben aber Glück: die Beamten von Immigration und Customs sowie Biosecurity sind ausgesprochen freundlich und kompetent. Sailing the Dominican Republic during the holidays is all about community, but the fuel issues in Luperon can quickly turn a "Secret Christmas" into a high-stakes mechanical nightmare. Between the holiday potlucks and the local traditions, we jumped in to help a friend pull a massive 30-gallon fuel tank that was threatening their ability to stay mobile as the bay starts to get rough. The expensive lesson was discovered at [00:17:45] when we realized the fuel hose wasn't reaching the supply, forcing a total extraction of Scott's tank. Without a crane or shop, we had to MacGyver a solution by stripping the bimini and using our main halyard to hoist the 30-gallon beast out of the bilge. It’s the ultimate liveaboard reality: one minute you're eating 8-day cured smoked ham, and the next you’re rigging your sail lines in the cockpit to save a friend's engine. Cada vez se instalan menos pilotos de viento en los velero que hacen travesías oceánicas y eso puede ser por varios motivos; - Que los veleros actuales con sus anchas popas tienen mas dificultad en instalar eficazmente el piloto. - Que los nuevos pilotos eléctricos son muy fiables robustos y que tienen un consumo bastante bueno. - Que los veleros antiguos con las popas estrechas no permitían instalar un segundo piloto electrónico ya que debía instalar un segundo brazo.
