Join Pascale for a swim at one of its many picturesque beaches before we sail on to Great Keppel Island where we indulge in a little bit of bushcraft, seafood and good company. Join us on our first time crossing an ocean or perhaps its a sea. Anyhow, sailing from the west coast of Sweden to Skagen in Denmark. First time making a passage crossing shipping lanes and seeing nothing but blue water all around is a bit daunting but the feeling of freedom with just you, the sail boat and ocean is magic. In Skagen we had the chance to sea the beautiful beaches, and happened to visit while the "older generation" had the equivalent of spring break. Can you actually win at World Cup level on a 1990s Old School Sail? And one of the best ones from the entire 90s... Let’s find out! This time I’m testing out the 1996 Neilpryde VX3 Windsurfing sail and seeing how it can perform in a real competition. I will be comparing it to the current racing gear, having a look at the differences and similarities and seeing what it’s actually like to sail it in some real-life heats with real-life PWA World Cup superstars. The video was shot in Tenerife during TWS Slalom Training. Guest starring: Matteo Iachino, Enrico Marotti, Jordy Vonk, Bruno Martini, Rytis Jasiunas and more.. @boatfools #sailboatforsale #sailingcommunity #sailboat [[SOLD 12/07/2024]] This Little SAILBOAT Packs a BIG Punch! At $23,900 this 1985 Pacific Seacraft Orion is ready to go! She's in the water, rigged, and ready to rock and roll. At only 27 LOA (31 feet, including bowsprit), she's much larger than she looks. The Orion has circumnavigated and were built as robust blue water cruisers. This is the 27-2 model, or the second generation, which has a longer coach roof and an extra set of ports when compared to its predecessor. She's also the "C" model layout, which means she has a drop down dinette in the main salon that makes a double berth, but more importantly she has a larger v-berth which is great for us taller folk. Plenty of room. And she holds an astounding 70 gallons of water (a lot for a 27-footer!), 20 gallons of diesel, and has an 18 gallon holding tank. She has a full complement of sails, including a brand new never used main sail (an older one is currently on the boat), a like-new jib, staysail, cruising spinnaker, rigid boom vang, solar, Yanmar diesel, wheel steering, and a chart plotter. INFINITY is a documented vessel and also comes with a fresh coat of bottom paint AND a Chesapeake Light Craft dinghy (no motor). We found her to be in GOOD condition but, as always, we recommend a professional marine survey. We are NOT yacht brokers and have no financial interest in this boat. She is for sale by owner (FSBO) and is an estate sale. [[SOLD]] Please, as always, be kind and courteous. Thanks for watching! -BoatFools Sailing Team
Mein 1. For the full written captain’s report, test and performance data, and more about the Chaparral 347 SSX, go to: https://www.boattest.com/review/chaparral/3853_347-ssx Chaparral designed the 347 SSX to meet the needs of two types of boaters: On one hand, she is made to appeal to owners of smaller bowriders who want to move up to a bigger boat that offers the features of a bowrider and overnighting capabilities. On the other, the 347 SSX is built for cruisers who want to move down to a more practical dayboat that still allows the occasional overnight stay.
Cleaning fibreglass and Gelcoat can be time consuming and messy if you use power hoses or steam cleaners and both of the techniques can still leave stains due the pours properties of fibreglass and gel coat. Many of the most hard clean stain in fibreglass are a result of small particles of metal (often in the form of rust) getting sucked into the fibreglass. The best way to address this is with an Oxalic Acid based cleaning solution. The acid penetrates the fibreglass de-solving the stain which can return even the most stained fibre glass back to near new. An Oxalic Acid cleaning solution not only attacks rust stains, it works equally well with mould, algae or anything else that has passed into the fibre glass through osmosis. Most of the commercial fibreglass cleaners have Oxalic acid as their primary ingredient, rather than paying over the odds for expensive products you should purchase some oxalic acid and make your own fibreglass or Gel Coat cleaner for a fraction of the cost. OXALIC Acid 99.6% 2 Lb. Crystals https://amzn.to/34keh3v OXALIC Acid 99.6% 5 Lb. Crystals https://amzn.to/31j0kk9 To mirror the commercial cleaning products add some detergent and wallpaper paste powder and you will get a product which you can apply to any surface. 1 litre of luke warm water 200g Oxalic acid powder 50mls car wash detergent (any mild liquid detergent) Wallpaper paste powder (to required consistency) Add the acid to the water then slowly add some paste powder until mix starts to thicken. Stop short of the consistency you need and let it sit for a few minutes, it will thicken further, finally add the detergent and give it a final mix. Brush on, leaving for 10-15 mins before pressure washing off to reveal your sparkling hull. Once you are clean it is a good option to neutralise the acid with some borax. Just throw on some borax and mop it around before you mop up the acid remains. We hope you enjoyed the latest episode as the team at bottom up boats restores their Mumm 36. The BEST Cruising Boat needs to be fast, safe, comfortable, and stylish. Did we find that in an Amel Super Maramu? Henry Amel is a designer famous for making capable and safe cruising boats and yachts. His designs are timeless and efficient, with everything conceptualized around the notion that a couple could sail around the world with ease on one of his sailboats. Conveniences such as powerfurl diesel motors, generators, bow thrusters, air conditionings, dish washers, clothes washers, and everything else you could imagine has been engineered to fit and work well on this boat. Does that make it the best cruising boat? We will show you what works, what doesn't work, and what makes these boats so special! We leave Eluthera with only 950 miles separating us from St. Maarten. It's Element's first offshore passage since her refit, and ours since we returned to Florida 3 years ago to lay eyes on her for the first time. We start the journey with a strong breeze and full winds in our sails, covering lots of miles as we leave the Bahamas in the rear view mirror. But a few hours out in standing waves, and we realized that neither of us quite have our sea legs back yet. And Georgie realizes she can't go 5 seconds without being close enough to touch us. But it feels good to be on our way, and we give Elements the chance to show us what she's made of out on the open water. Cheers from the Atlantic Ocean! Thank you SO MUCH to our Patrons. I sail to Antigua and stay in English Harbor for 10 days. Time is flying by with plenty of things to do. Then I have two nice anchor stops on Green Island and Long Island. On Barbuda I am visiting Cocoa Bay, Low Bay and Codrington before heading back to Antigua, where I stay in Dickenson Bay and Jolly Harbor. Finally, I sail to Nevis, but decide not to clear in due to the experience of a Swedish neighboring boat and sail on to Simpson Bay on Sint Maarten, where this nice cruise is ending. After a favourable weather window appeared for crossing the Atlantic, we got down to business and put a hold on exploring Bermuda. The day arrived and we headed out into beautiful sailing conditions. Despite the fantastic weather, we were both feeling a little nervous as a result of our last disastrous Atlantic Ocean crossing attempt... to say that we were a bit on edge was an understatement! But the days seem to slip by with only a few minor noises and groans to concern us with. By day 4, we were used to them and had slipped into a good routine. We were both unable to believe the excellent weather conditions that we chose to leave in... in our mind, they seemed too good to be true and SOMETHING bad was bound to happen! And through that experience we’ve realized we are happiest when we can fully engage with nature—biking, kayaking, hiking, fishing, freediving, and more. Now, as we transition to life ashore, we’re dreaming of building a homestead where we can live in nature through hard work and self-reliance, fundamentally the same things we loved about the sailing lifestyle. However, large coastal properties are far beyond our budget. That’s why we’ve set our sights inland, to the mountains of Southern Appalachia, where land is more affordable and where we can find that active engagement with nature that we love. Now last week, we left you with a cliffhanger as Hurricane Milton passed directly over our parents’ home in Florida. As it turned out, they were extremely lucky and their homes survived the ordeal unscathed. So this week, we’re free to explore the next town on our list Bryson City, NC. Broadblue entrusted the design to Darren Newton (and Nick Bailey) who also undertook the build, at the Multimarine yard. This fact, combined with a very advanced specification, has all the makings of an exceptional project. We set off for Portsmouth (UK) for a two-day test, including the famous Round the Island Race (round the Isle of Wight), with more than 1,500 boats on the startline. For the full written captain’s report, test and performance data, and more about the Mercury V-6 FourStroke Outboards video, go to: http://www.boattest.com/engine-review/Mercury/42000168_V-6-FourStroke-Outboards-from-175-to-225-HP_2018 Mercury tells us it engineered its line of 3.4-liter V-6 FourStroke outboards to optimize performance and reliability while reducing weight and maximizing fuel economy. According to the builder, its product testing shows that these outboards deliver Mercury’s best-ever hole shot times for a 4-stroke outboard in their horsepower range, as well as to be quite fuel efficient. We are currently working with Mercury Marine to arrange some boat tests so that we can independently verify these claims. We’ll keep you posted, but in the meantime…read our editor's report.

What changes would you make if a catamaran designer let you make tweaks to your new boat? We're back with a new video, and this time, with something a little more interesting than us touching up spots in our primer. (Which we've learned after talking to a lot of people, show up WAY LESS on camera than they do in person.) This week we've made the trip out to the Max Cruise factory in Vietnam to to a tour of the yard. One of the largest reasons for that visit, you'll see in next week's video when we reveal the production of their new 48 and 55 ft catamarans. But before we can get to those, we thought we'd show you the amazing evolution of the 44 - the same boat we're building! In person we've only seen hulls 04 and 06, which both launched in the summer of 2022. And while some changes made to each of these have been at the request of each particular owner, there has been a progression of staples that are making their way onto each new hull. One of the big things we can relate to is the raised helm and surrounding areas, as we're busy building out ours and can take a lot of great ideas from it. Another is to take away the island sitting at the sill of the cockpit, and replace it with a comfortable L shaped settee and permanent table. Specific to this hull, the owner has asked for extra storage inside each of the aft bunks, and we see this becoming a popular request on future hulls. Then there are things such as adding veneer to the major bulkheads as well as painting the cabin sides, which we're doing similar things to, but are at that point just a matter of aesthetics and owner's taste. Take a look through and tell us which changes you like the best, or any suggestions of what you would ask for if this were to be your boat. We hope you enjoy! Thank you SO MUCH to all our Patrons for your continued support. Without your help, these videos, And This Build, would not be possible. When other brokers ask me how I find time to produce so many videos I reply that we all take time to research the market, I just convert my research into video format. This video is an example of that, as one of my clients has shown an interest in buying a 35m tri-deck yacht. Here are just three options for him. If you are considering the sale or purchase of a yacht, contact me any time at david.seal@northropandjohnson.com
It's time to button up the last few projects before going back in the water, including replacing a piece of trim in the galley, making another piece of trim for the head, yet more varnishing, and applying new antifouling to the sail drive and the prop. ** Links ** Sail Life website: https://www.saillifechannel.com/ Sail Life on Patreon: http://bit.ly/SailLifeOnPatreon Sail Life on Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/saillife_ Sail Life on Facebook: http://bit.ly/SailLifeOnFacebook Sail Life on Twitter: http://bit.ly/SailLifeOnTwitter
I have been obsessing over owning a sawmill for several years now. One of my original plans was to build my own mill from steel stock and engineered components, and this is something that I will likely still do...but...when I stumbled accidentally upon the Central Machinery band saw mill from Harbor Freight, and after researching the product thoroughly, I was convinced that it made terrific sense to give it a try. It arrived by tractor trailer and in this video, I un-box it, assemble it, demonstrate it cutting a log, and give my initial redneck review. After only about 15 or 20 minutes of using it, I am thoroughly impressed and would highly recommend this mill to anyone needing a solid, accurate mill for home or hobby use. I would also like to suggest that you take a look at Texas Ben's custom built mill here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-eqwZb4D9r8 If you want to brave the wilds of building your own, take a look at the plans here: http://www.ebay.com/itm/Sawmill-Plans-to-build-a-heavy-duty-band-sawmill-to-cut-wood-for-lumber-/261365147773?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item3cda93a87d I hope you enjoy this video and find it helpful. Steve and Robin are eagerly anticipating some warmer days, but—until then—there are plenty of winter adventures to be had. Now that the sail covers are installed, Steve laces on the sails. Once Arabella goes out for a sail, the last few adjustments will be fine-tuned. There's still work to be done, but it’s good for now. As avid outdoor enthusiasts, Steve and Robin always find time for the outdoors, whether biking, climbing, skiing, or running. In this episode, they check out the Badlands trail in Yarmouth for some mountain biking that is supposedly unlike anything that’s ever been ridden before. It's important to carve out time for self-care, even though it's never easy for Steve to pull himself too far away from Arabella! We also circle back to the state of the Spectra water maker issue—after being a bit misguided as to which model water maker would be a good fit for cruising, Steve finds himself needing to engineer a solution that won't break the bank—water makers aren't cheap, you know! Turns out, the water maker worked fine over the summer in warm waters, but it couldn’t hold up to the sub-40º water temps typical of a New England winter. Rather than spending $9,000 to buy an entirely different model, Steve’s fix will be a lot cheaper—he'll "simply" replace a few parts of the pump and, voilà (we hope)! Of course, it wouldn't be winter in New England without a snow day tucked in between a few spring-like days. While Steve may be hoping for a few inches of snow, he’s also hoping it doesn’t stick around too long. Can you blame him? This is Arabella’s first real encounter with snow. The storm may have brought about some shoveling, but the reward was a day spent at the beach, basking in the sun on a 28º degree...in a snazzy new chair ;-) Life on a wooden sailboat is all about embracing the changing seasons...but Steve and Robin are pretty ready for this one to exit stage left! -------------------------- Sign up for our email newsletter: http://eepurl.com/hn3Qyv Acorn to Arabella started as a wooden boat building project in Granby, Massachusetts. Steve began the journey as an amateur wooden boat builder crafting a 38' wooden sailboat in his backyard: designer William Atkin's Ingrid with a Stormy Petrel's gaff rig. These videos follow the journey from tree felling, to lumber milling, to lofting, to the lead keel pour and now sailing the boat—sharing details of the woodworking, carpentry, metal smithing, tool building, and tool maintenance that traditional wooden boats command. This ultimate DIY project continues beyond the boat shop, as Steve and crew travel and learn to cruise aboard the handmade wooden boat that they've built. Just kidding about all that, this channel is about a Siberian Laika named Akiva. -------------------------- If you are interested in supporting/helping here are a few ways: https://www.acorntoarabella.com/how-to-help Acorn to Arabella's wishlist: https://www.acorntoarabella.com/wishlistpriority TotalBoat supports A2A! Trouble is- we were in a pandemic, had a university degree to finish, on a student budget, only had ever sailed dingies, oh and didn’t have a boat. The dream seemed not only unrealistic but pretty insane. However, we worked hard, finished our degrees, worked as many hours as physically possible, saved with all our might, got experience and in March 2022 bought our very own sailboat, Teulu. Having little sailing experience and being a young couple, we have encountered a tonne of hurdles and made plenty of mistakes! but for every downfall, there has always been a reason to dust ourselves off and carry on. We hope you can join us as we sail around the world and keep #bloodydoingit *Timestamps* 00:23 Exciting projects ahead 02:58 Off comes the old prop 03:47 This grease sucks 11:48 New dripless shaft seal 16:36 Cutlass bearing replacement 18:19 Shiny new folding prop! #sailing #boatlife

Waking up off-grid in Borneo feels surreal. Most mornings it’s the gentle lapping of waves against La Vagabonde, a slow coffee brewing in the galley, and our crew easing into the never-ending boat jobs. I love being the first one up, there’s something magic about being this far off the map, surrounded by places untouched by humans. Would you ever swap your morning routine for something like this? Let us know in the comments xx #sailing #travel
Sir Lindsay Owen-Jones’ latest launch Magic Carpet-e is a sleek modern Maxi that on the outside has plenty of IMOCA about her. The hopes are that on the race course she’ll be pretty slippery too. But this Maxi is about more than that. When it comes to her systems below decks this is the most advanced 100footer to be launched for many years, a proof of technology that may well influence a generation of racers and cruisers to come. PlanetSail gets an exclusive, deep dive tour to look at the sophisticated systems that power this innovative Maxi. We also get to see her stunning accommodation, which has its own story to tell about how good looks and comfort play a big part in maximising the performance of this weapon of a machine. In Part 3 three of our Inside the Modern Maxi series Matt Sheahan gets the full tour below decks.
