In the run up to the Rolex Middle Sea Race, TVM's Sports Journalist Sandro Micallef met with some of the Maltese crews taking part in the 42nd Edition of this iconic Race. Andrew Agius Delicata and Matthew Gabriele will be the only Maltese Double Handed Entry on their Reflex 38 Vivace. This will be their second participation with this formula, having placed 4th in 2019.

We spent the weekend at Avalon Eco Resort, an off the grid, rustic, solar powered cabin. We loved hiking The Crack, the view from the top of Killarney Ridge is absolutely stunning. The immense white cliffs of the La Cloche Mountains surround you as you ascend through the cascade of huge tumbled boulders of what is known as "The Crack”. Once you reach the top of the ridge, you’ll be treated to beautiful panoramic vistas on all sides – certainly one of the best views in the park! We also hiked Lake of The Woods Trail, this loop trail encircles Lake of the Woods, traveling through a variety of forest types, from old growth stands to elevated rocky outcrops. These outcrops offer excellent views of Silver Peak, six kilometres to the west and Lake of the Woods below. At one point, the trail descends to the lakeshore where a short boardwalk connects to the lake’s only island. Finally we hiked Chikanishing Trail, this trail winds along the park’s southern boundary and crosses a series of small ridges and then ending at a wave-washed point on Georgian Bay. Vegetation is typical of the rocky, windswept terrain of Georgian Bay, though taller pine and oak have flourished in wind-sheltered spots where soil has accumulated. Old iron rings used for mooring lines during logging days can still be seen along the trail. Interpretive plaques tell the colourful history of this part of Georgian Bay. We then visited the Killarney East Lighthouse and took our boat out on Tyson Lake for some sunset fishing where we saw a beautiful rainbow!

We are a middle aged couple that has left our hectic business lives to go sailing with our boat Fridá af Wisby and our cat Litza. Our goal is not to go to a specific place but to reach a state of mind where we can really enjoy life. Anders has been at the sea most of his life and sailed for the Swedish national dingy sailing team as a young man. Gitte has also grown up with boats and spent every summer sailing with her father as a teenager but made a pause of about 15 years without sailing as an adult, had just begun to pick-up the interest before she meet Anders in 2017. Onboard we also have our cat Litza a 4 year old Devon Rex we call her the cattain because cats always decide over their humans. Fridá af Wisby is a Wauquiez 47 pilot saloon that we Gitte and Anders bought in UK in 2019 and that we have sailed to Gotland and in season 1 2020 we sail in the Baltic Sea. During season 2 We sailded south to Dieppe Normandy France. After a winter in France in Season 3 we started to sail the Atlantic coast of Europe to Xufre in Spain where we lifted the boat over the summer while we where back in Gotland to work at our hostel we got there. Season 4 got a short sailing season where we only sailed to Lagos on the Algarve coast of Portugal where we hauled out once again this time to go throug a long list of boatwork and to build a solar arch to make the boat more self-suficient with electricity. After 6 months in Lagos we kicked-off season 5 with real bluewater sailing first to the northerly Atlantic island Porto Santo and Madeira and then further out to the Azores that lays in the middle of the Atlantic ocean before turning back towards the mainland and south coast of Portugal again.

However, this desire often conflicts with busy schedules, little time, money and flexibility. Often, this hectic pace means foregoing sustainable decisions. With all this in mind, we aim to do things differently and also with our last large-scale production we tested new waters - quite literally. "Ripples - the sailing circus show" took place on the wooden sailing ship “Swallow” and was brought to audiences in Denmark, Finland, Estonia and Norway during the 2-month sailing tour in the summer of 2022. In this video, the crew and artistic team behind “Ripples” share what is necessary for an international tour to be more sustainable. We hope it serves as an inspiration for other culture professionals and that you incorporate our advice into your own tour planning so that the art we create finds its audiences in the most sustainable ways possible. --- "Ripples" was a collaboration between Acting for Climate, Hawila - Cargo, Education and Culture by Sail & Festival Norpas.
