Finished to exceptionally high standard, she has fulfilled the brief for a stylish yacht capable of fast, comfortable ocean passages. Designed by Dubois Naval Architects, Mondango continues a progression of large flybridge yachts and displays clean lines, subtle sheer and low-profile coachroof. The aggressively raked windows of the coach roof wrap all the way around in a dramatic sweep of curved glass to accentuate the modern exterior. The coach roof extends aft to encompass the mizzen mast and provides a long overhang protecting the aft cockpit. The port and starboard side windows of the cockpit as well as the spectacular curved rear window all open and close to create a climate-controlled single-level extension of the main saloon. Sie haben in Folge #2 eine Jeanneau SUN ODYSSEY 37 gekauft und mit dieser dann angefangen Segeln zu lernen. In kleinen Schritten. Und jetzt, 1,5 Jahre später, sind sie ganz entspannt alleine auf der Ostsee unterwegs. Damals haben sich (neben super viel positiven Feedback) auch so einige kritische Stimmen gemeldet. "Wie kann man nur als Nicht-Segler direkt so ein großes Boot kaufen?!", war der Tenor. Wir finden, wenn man mit gesundem Menschenverstand an die Sache rangeht, ist das durchaus auch mit dem eigenen Segelboot möglich und man braucht nicht erst jahrelang in einer Jolle zu sitzen und sämtliche Scheine machen. Es geht auch so, wenn man es richtig und gewissenhaft angeht. Rolf und Bärbel sind das beste Beispiel. Im Video unterhalte ich mich mit Rolf über Telefon während ihres Urlaubstörns auf der Ostsee und wir sprechen darüber, wie sie das Ganze geschafft haben. It's an end of a chapter in our lives. This video represents the last minutes of Odd inside the water having us (Roberta and Duca) as her owner. We hauled our sailboat out in Spice Island Marine Services in Grenada in the Caribbean to preparar her for her next owner that was arriving in a few days. Just a quick reminder that our youtube channel is actually a documentary of our lives and where we show all the moments we live and what are our thoughts while we live our lives fullest, living our dream life and documenting everything to share it with others hopping to inspire them to follow their dreams! It's also a documentary of our lives for us... in years from now we can look back and remember all the good (and bad) moments we lived and remember all the moments and friends we met along the way. We are Duca and Roberta, a Brazilian couple that during a sabbatical trip in 2016 decided to follow our dream. So, we created "Odd Life Crafting", a project composed of many smaller projects that we call seasons. The first one was the creation of Odd Life Crafting. The idea was to build a metal boat to be able to travel the world taking our house with us, but we didn't have money for that. So, we started the next season: we built a tiny shipping container house with no prior experience in building to gain some skills to build a boat. When we were almost finished we found a boat 700km away from our hometown that was neglected for over 22 years and we spent 2 years refitting her (Season 3). Kadey-Krogen or Nordhavn? Ask Dennis Fox- He’s owned 5 of each! Dennis and Julie Fox love boating, they have made it their “thing” since 1995, favoring being afloat over golf, tennis, gardening and other land-based activities. Jeff sat down with Dennis a few weeks ago in Stuart, FL aboard the Krogen 48 North Sea, Klassy Kady. Julie wasn’t available to film this Cruising Conversation, but Dennis can speak well for the two of them. Dennis has become the model of every yacht brokers dream client – a serial boat buyer. Dennis and Julie prefer to purchase new, travel, tweak and then sell to try a different approach. They have also purchased brokerage boats and even “rescued” a boat or two. There is no boasting involved, just a matter of fact choice to spend their free time on the water. The decades offshore have been kind to them, and they have been kind to other boaters – creating a very well-connected group of cruising friends who they still spend time with regularly. The boats are one thing, but the friendships are the main thing. They love the trawler lifestyle and the camaraderie of fellow cruising folks. As the conversation developed a number of mutual acquaintances (both people and boats) illustrate the tight knit trawler community that we all have embraced. Dennis is subtle with his sense of humor, but you can see the sparkle in his eyes, and he was as charming and amusing in person as he is portrayed on film. During their boating career they have enjoyed travelling on both US coasts, have done the Great Loop twice, sailed down to the Caribbean, crossed the Atlantic and cruised the Mediterranean. They have traveled by themselves and in groups (FUBAR/CUBAR and the Nordhavn Atlantic Rally). A series of Sea Fox named boats and a Julie K or two have sailed all over, typically crewed by family and friends on the longer trips and just Dennis and Julie on shorter excursions. We call out the Australian Coast Guard for the first time and get lifted out of the water to check Florence's bottom ready for sailing to Indonesia. The clock ticks away as we try to get all of our work done on Florence in under 72 hours to save an extra day on the hard. Sailing to a country with limited facilities to maintain and repair a yacht requires some careful planning and hard graft. To enter into this harbour we must pass over a sand bar, through potentially breaking waves, between 2x 200 ft high cliffs with rocks either side and then to make it more challenging, a reef in the middle of the channel… of course there is… This challenging entrance has proven too difficult for thousands of other vessels over the years as their remains are littered across the seabed floor. With all this information firmly in our heads, we still decided to try and enter as the reward for our efforts will be well worth it.
