Sehr eindrucksvoll demonstrieren uns die Mädchen und Dozenten Teile ihrer Schulung. Unglaublich mit was für einer Energie und Elan alle dabei sind. Ein starkes Selbstbewusstsein hilft den Mädchen, mehr für ihre Ziele auf ein selbstbestimmtes Leben und bessere Bildungsmöglichkeiten einzustehen. Brigitta war natürlich erst einmal vollkommen überrascht, obwohl eine Weltumsegelung wesentlich besser in Ihr berufliches Leben als Vorruheständlerin passte als in meins. In den letzten 6 Monaten hat Sie aber eine erstaunliche Entwicklung hinter sich gebracht und freut sich auf unser großes Abenteuer genau wie ich. Ein Jugendtraum geht in Erfüllung

In this episode we finally enter the Mediterranean Sea and we make a few short stops in Estepona and Benalmadena before we arrive in Motril. We get a first taste of the challenges with sailing in the Mediterranean Sea and we have to do our first Med Moorig... can we do it? Benalmadena is a little special to us and in the video we tell you why. We are a middle aged couple that has left our hectic business lives to go sailing with our boat Fridá af Wisby and our cat Litza. Our goal is not to go to a specific place but to reach a state of mind where we can really enjoy life. Anders has been at the sea most of his life and sailed for the Swedish national dingy sailing team as a young man. Gitte has also grown up with boats and spent every summer sailing with her father as a teenager but made a pause of about 15 years without sailing as an adult, had just begun to pick-up the interest before she meet Anders in 2017. Onboard we also have our cat Litza a 4 year old Devon Rex we call her the cattain because cats always decide over their humans. Fridá af Wisby is a Wauquiez 47 pilot saloon that we Gitte and Anders bought in UK in 2019 and that we have sailed to Gotland and in season 1 2020 we sail in the Baltic Sea. During season 2 We sailded south to Dieppe Normandy France. After a winter in France in Season 3 we started to sail the Atlantic coast of Europe to Xufre in Spain where we lifted the boat over the summer while we where back in Gotland to work at our hostel we got there. Season 4 got a short sailing season where we only sailed to Lagos on the Algarve coast of Portugal where we hauled out once again this time to go throug a long list of boatwork and to build a solar arch to make the boat more self-suficient with electricity. After 6 months in Lagos we kicked-off season 5 with real bluewater sailing first to the northerly Atlantic island Porto Santo and Madeira and then further out to the Azores that lays in the middle of the Atlantic ocean before turning back towards the mainland and south coast of Portugal again.

With a leak on Tropic Bird, we race back to Martinique to get her fixed. We make a dash from Mayreau, to Canouan, to Bequia, to St Lucia, and finally to Martinique. I have a lot of fun learning to sail Blooper, but I still can't catch up to Tropic Bird. I enjoy my longs sail yet: 62.5 nautical miles from Bequia to Marigot Bay in St Lucia. Max speed of 8 knots, total time 12 hours. Along the way, I show how I bleed my engine of air, fill up on diesel at a fuel dock, and dolphins decide to swim with Blooper. Mit unserer Topaz Magno geht’s noch einmal raus in die Kieler Bucht – direkt vor dem Olympiahafen Kiel-Schilksee. Bei 4 Beaufort und ablandigem Wind erleben wir ein richtig agiles kleines Sportboot. Die Magno ist mit nur ca. 3,94 m Länge, 1,56 m Breite und rund 95 kg Rumpfgewicht ein echtes Leichtgewicht. Das Großsegel ca. 8 m², die Fock rund 2 m² und der Gennaker ca. 10–11 m² machen die Jolle perfekt, um das Gennaker-Segeln zu üben – aber eben auch ziemlich kippelig. Das spüren wir sofort: die ersten Kenterungen lassen nicht lange auf sich warten. Insgesamt werden es 6 Kenterungen – jedes Mal schnell aufrichten, Wasser rausfahren und weiter geht’s. Genau das macht den Reiz aus: wenig Trägheit, direktes Lenkverhalten und jede kleine Gewichtsverlagerung spürt man sofort. Wenn die Magno ins Gleiten kommt, spielt die klassische Rumpfgeschwindigkeit von ca. 9 km/h keine Rolle mehr – mit Gennaker und genug Wind kommen wir zeitweise auf 16 km/h und mehr. Für Einsteiger ist die Magno aufgrund ihrer Stabilität beim Aufrichten perfekt zum Lernen geeignet – aber man muss aktiv segeln und Gewicht trimmen! Wir segeln Höhe, üben Wenden, fahren lange Schläge und probieren Manöver im Trapez. Dabei wechseln wir Rollen: mal steuert einer nur mit der Pinne, mal bedienen wir Großsegel und Fock gemeinsam. We sail north through the Sandy Straits and into Hervey Bay proper – and this stretch of the K’gari coastline absolutely delivers. The water colour here is something else. Clear, vibrant, and constantly changing as we make our way past remote beaches and rugged cliffs. It’s one of those moments that reminds us exactly why we chose this life. We drop anchor just south of Triangle Cliff for some well-earned rest and reset. No rush, no agenda – just time to slow down and take it all in. And of course… good food is still a priority out here. We whip up a delicious Lebanese lunch onboard (because boat life doesn’t mean compromising on great meals), before winding down with a spectacular sunset over the bay.
