A RARE 1981 CSY 33 Bluewater Cruiser at $28,500!Canadian Ken couldn't join me for this one but it was still a ton of fun to explore and film! Less than 60 of these Caribbean Sailing Yachts were made. And this CSY 33 is loaded for bear and has been outfitted for long range cruising. Some of the upgrades include solar panels (2 on a stern aluminum arch), lithium iron batteries (3@100 amp each), Victron solar controller, and a Victron dc to dc charger. It also has a Garmin chartplotter, radar on gimballed mount attached to the mast, and a Garmin depth sounder. It is cutter-rigged and comes with a complete set of sails including a spinnaker, storm jib, and a trysail. The galley has a gimballed two-burner stove and oven, pressure water at the sink, and a dc powered freezer with a spill over refrigerator compartment. Finally there is brand new Hydrovane self-steering system. The included dingy is a Portland Pudgy. The Universal diesel engine has approximately 2,000 hours on it and runs like a top, per the owner. In short, she's ready to go. These CSY 33's are known for their unusually large cabins (for their size) and the fact that they are solid fiberglass from stem to stern, from keel to coach roof - in short, there is NO CORING, the bane of most boats from this era. This weeks episode we say goodbye suburbia and head back to boat life! After 8 weeks back in sunny Queensland we pack up our worldly possessions (again) and haul them half way around the world back to beautiful boat life and all the adventures that come with it! Were usually big fans of cheap and cheerful travel and whilst this time was no exception we did take the opportunity to slow down the pace a little and make a few stops along the way. We raced down to Waikiki beach on Honolulu, Hawaii. We overnighted (and almost froze to death) in New York (NYC) after an exhausting stomp through manhattan to get from JFK to Newark airport. then we cruised through Miami en-route to Grenada. We overnighted not far from the airport in Grenada so that we would arrive at the boat the next morning fresh and ready to work. We had no idea what we were walking into. After 3 long days on the road we finally made it back to our floating home, the Millennial Falcon. I don't know why I thought I could fix my own bulkheads, but I'm in too deep to back out... There are about a thousand Lagoon 450 Catamarans and sadly they all have defective bulkheads. Lagoon claims there are only a few broken boats and won't take responsibility. Out of 55 boats who have checked so far, over 52 have the same issue. I'd be living the dream aboard, lounging on the flybridge next to my hot wife and watching the kids bounce around everywhere they shouldn't. Instead I'm alone on the hard and have to climb a 12 ft ladder in the middle of the night just to share a single toilet with a whole marina. We have broken bulkheads...and fixing them has been harder than I ever imagined. I went to a lagoon dealer in the Carribean for help and they sarcasticly told me the fix was a secret. Instead I had to follow a stranger to a foreign country who was kind enough to share the repair and guide me through the process. To be honest we considered cutting our losses and buying a newer 450, but after FULLY exposing the bulkheads and seeing 3 of my buddies with the same issue in the same place, it was clear that the boat had a tiny weakness in a small area and we'd eventually have the same problem on a newer 450. Despite these exhausting 2 months, I still absolutely love my 450--it's hands down the best boat in its range! C'mon the fly bridge is amazing! I've straightened all 15 tons of her and am finally prepped for grinding and cutting the fiberglass... Hull 205, 2013, No hurricane damage, not grounded, ex charter. ". #bulkheads #lagoon450

Prepare for an episode with lots of boat work! We’re back in the boatyard to do some work on RAN. We take her to Curacao Marine in Willemstad and after hauling out we spend a couple of days prepping and then painting new antifouling, changing the batteries and the anodes while melting away in the 35-40 C heat. We also prepare to leave RAN in storage for a few weeks as we’re taking off in an airplane! We are a Swedish couple who wanted a different kind of life. So we moved aboard our sailboat RAN, a custom built aluminium Beason 40, untied the lines in the middle of the Swedish winter and started to sail south along the coast of Europe. Safe sailing. Boat: White Shadow is a Van De Stadt ‘Seal’ 36 (11 metres). She is hand made in steel, 2004, with a round bilge (hull) and a modified coach roof. This makes her a ‘one off’ and in my opinion the most beautiful Van De Stadt 36 ever built. The camera gear: Main camera is a Panasonic Hc- V770 with a Rode External mic. My old camera is now my number 2 is a Panasonic Hc-v700. Most shots are done with an external mic (Shenggu sg 108) with a sponge and dead kitten attached. Action stuff and small blogging is done with a Sony Hdr-as30v. Underwater video Gopro3plus. Editing: Final cut pro on a Macbook. Most of the material for each video is filmed over a period of several weeks or so and the editing of each episode is normally done over a day. This process can take longer if original music is used or permissions are needed for copyrighted materials etc. Much time is spent sorting out technical problems. In this case I normally get the help of a younger person who understands computerie stuff! There are also times when filming, editing and uploading is not possible due to being at sea or in locations with no internet access. Content: I have found that filming and releasing material over a period of time is better than doing ‘vlog’ style videos and trying to make episodes out of whats happened in a week, regardless if it’s good content or not. By filming over a period of time I can be more selective in what goes into each video. My aim is to avoid ‘bland and mundane’ and have at least one or two exciting and interesting events in every video. Every video has to be entertaining. Comments and being at sea: I love reading your comments. Most weeks Im able to read everyone. I cant reply to everybody but I do read and enjoy them. Keep them coming! There are times that It might seem I'm not on the internet for certain periods, this is normally when Im at sea on passage. While Im out on the Ocean I have completely no communications with the outside World. Maria and I are sailing from bay to bay along the pretty coast of Ecuador. Isla Salango does not look too enviting to explore by land, so we decide to take a slow boat day and just hang out, swim, watch the local tourist boats pull up and enjoy the quiet of the bay once they are gone again. The anchorage of El Islote has some great surf, but it's a little too far away for us to paddle over there and it also looks a bit beyond our skill level. The anchorage is a bit rolly for our taste, so we move up South a bit again, to Cabo San Lorenzo. Sailboat Karl is loving all the movement and is showing himself from his best side. No major issues apart from a moody starting battery. But hey, that's basically like nothing in comparison to other Karl surprises... Safe sailing. Boat: White Shadow is a Van De Stadt ‘Seal’ 36 (11 metres). She is hand made in steel, 2004, with a round bilge (hull) and a modified coach roof. This makes her a ‘one off’ and in my opinion the most beautiful Van De Stadt 36 ever built. The camera gear: Main camera is a Panasonic Hc- V700 with a Rode External mic with a sponge and dead kitten attached. Action, underwater scenes and small blogging is done with two Osmo action cams. Some boat shots are done with a Dji gimbal camera. Editing: Final cut pro on a Macbook. Most of the material for each video is filmed over a period of several weeks or so and the editing of each episode is normally done over a day. This process can take longer if original music is used or permissions are needed for copyrighted materials etc. Much time is spent sorting out technical problems. In this case I normally get the help of a younger person who understands computerie stuff! There are also times when filming, editing and uploading is not possible due to being at sea or in locations with no internet access. Content: I have found that filming and releasing material over a period of time is better than doing ‘vlog’ style videos and trying to make episodes out of whats happened in a week, regardless if it’s good content or not. By filming over a period of time I can be more selective in what goes into each video. My aim is to avoid ‘bland and mundane’ and have at least one or two exciting and interesting events in every video. Every video has to be entertaining. Comments and being at sea: I love reading your comments. Most weeks Im able to read everyone. I cant reply to everybody but I do read and enjoy them. Keep them coming! There are times that It might seem I'm not on the internet for certain periods, this is normally when Im at sea on passage. While Im out on the Ocean I have completely no communications with the outside World.
