After lending a hand on Lucidity, it was time to sell Somnium. Initially Taylor reached out to us via email after binge-watching all of our episodes. (Sidenote: I want to make a shirt that says "Learning the Lines - At the end of the rabbit hole where you want to be."). He fell in love with the idea of finishing Somnium and explained in his email that he wanted to buy her from us. After meeting for a beer and trying to talk Taylor out of buying Somnium... I just couldn't convince him otherwise. He was still interested and wanted to see her in person. That weekend I showed Somnium to him and showed him the good, the bad, and the ugly. His mind was made up. I knew Taylor was a grad student and didn't have a crazy amount of cash. I also knew that we grossly overpaid when we initially bought Somnium. We ended up spending around $10,000 on her after buying the new engine. We also added around $10,000 worth of new equipment and work, mostly paid for by sponsorships, but it was still value nonetheless. Knowing all this, we offered the boat to Taylor for $3,000. In a way we wanted to pay our good fortune forward to him, and in a way we also wanted to help someone else out with a dream. I know we "lost money" on Somnium. We get that. But it's all part of the cost of education in our minds. We earned invaluable knowledge and experience in exchange for the money we "lost." ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Not-A-Broker Consulting: https://www.patreon.com/notabrokerconsulting Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/learningthelines/ Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/learningthelines/ Link to Abandon Comfort: https://www.youtube.com/user/Dtrickyy ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Learning the Lines is a channel about us, an average couple in our 20's, with big dreams to be sailing the world by the time we're in our 30's. We're not afraid to jump into anything, put in the work, and learn as we go. For this reason our channel is very DIY focused, with the goal to show anyone watching that a lot is possible if you're not afraid to make some mistakes along the way. The summer season is coming to an end in British Columbia and it's raining with strong winds for many days. Malin's family join us onboard Ran and we visit Elk Falls outside Campbell River. @boatfools  #sailing #sailboatforsale #sailboat #sailboatrefit [[SOLD as of 12/04/2024]] Ok, this is An INCREDIBLE Bluewater Sailboat AND this video is her debut listing! And while we don't typically review sailboats in this price range (a first at this level), we were contacted by the owner, Gary, who asked us to showcase her and announce her being for sale. We were honored and even more so when we saw this beautiful Cabo Rico 38. We had never been on one, though we heard they are nice. Guess what? They are WICKED nice and this one is off the charts. Gary bought her 3 years ago and has done a ton of work to her and made lots of upgrades (all of this is listed below). He found her in Marion, MA, sailed her up to Maine, did a ton of work, then sailed her to the Bahamas. Of note, this CR 38 has also sailed around the world. The proof of her seaworthiness is in the pudding, as they say. She has done it all and is now ready for more. Once you go through the list of what has been done, you'll see why. There is nothing left to do but replace the lifelines (as we note in the video) and go sailing - and not necessarily in that order. Honestly, we loved this boat so much and we really hope we get a chance to go sailing on her. She is located at Knight Marine, Rockland, ME, and her mast is being stepped in about a week or so (as of the premier of this video). As Canadian Ken mentions in the opener, we have NO financial interest in this boat whatsoever. We don't get paid by the seller for our services, either. This allows us to remain unbiased and to call it as we see it. If you feel like supporting us, you can at www.patreon.com/boatfoolssailing. You can sign up for free or for just a few bucks a month. Many thanks for watching! Get busy sailing or get busy tryin'! For months, Steve and Robin have been moving Arabella south, waiting for warm enough weather to haul her, and give her a fresh coat of paint. The time has finally come. Arabella is getting hauled out, and—in this episode—we’ll detail the hard work that went into scraping and painting their homebuilt wooden sailboat. Arabella’s last paint job was done in Rockland, Maine, back in November 2023. It was a little too cold, and despite tenting and heating the hull below the waterline, the paint job just didn’t stick. This paint job will be different. With a sunny, warm, and dry forecast for the foreseeable future, it’s time to get to work. But he’s gotta move fast to prevent the oak and cedar planks from drying out too much while Arabella sits on the hard in the hot Florida sun (and to prevent a yard bill bigger than his bank account). He starts by gathering and sharpening the equipment he needs to scrape the bottom paint and splooging seam compound off Arabella. Steve singlehandedly scrapes and sands the entire hull down to the wood, and explains why the bare hull looks the way it looks (hint: the wood isn’t moldy, it’s just the remnants of a layer of black bottom paint). As usual, Steve’s got a well-thought-out plan, and a few boxes of TotalBoat paint and products to make the magic happen. Steve and Robin use the laser to mark the waterline, bringing it up just a few more inches. Before applying the first coat of bottom paint, Robin gives Arabella a bath in denatured alcohol. The crew gets to painting, coat after coat. Ultimately, they apply three coast of bottom paint and two coats of topside paint, working well into the night to get all of the work done. The finishing touch is Arabella’s name, hand painted onto the stern of the boat. After 8 days on the hard, Arabella is ready to be relaunched, and Robin, Steve and Akiva are ready to continue their journey south to…who knows! But, they have another problem they could use your help with: modifying the 8-pin connector on their Epropulsion electric dinghy motor. Their Propulsion Evo Tiller has left them stranded one too many times, but Steve and Robin really like other aspects of the motor and don’t want to throw the baby out with the bathwater. If you have an idea, we’d love to hear it! Send your thoughts to acorntoarabella@gmail.com. -------------------------- Sign up for our email newsletter: http://eepurl.com/hn3Qyv Acorn to Arabella started as a wooden boat building project in Granby, Massachusetts. Steve began the journey as an amateur wooden boat builder crafting a 38' wooden sailboat in his backyard: designer William Atkin's Ingrid with a Stormy Petrel's gaff rig. These videos follow the journey from tree felling, to lumber milling, to lofting, to the lead keel pour and now sailing the boat—sharing details of the woodworking, carpentry, metal smithing, tool building, and tool maintenance that traditional wooden boats command. This ultimate DIY project continues beyond the boat shop, as Steve and crew travel and learn to cruise aboard the handmade wooden boat that they've built. Just kidding about all that, this channel is about a Siberian Laika named Akiva. -------------------------- If you are interested in supporting/helping here are a few ways: https://www.acorntoarabella.com/how-to-help Acorn to Arabella's wishlist: https://www.acorntoarabella.com/wishlistpriority TotalBoat supports A2A! For the past couple months we’ve been sailing through Greece and Turkey and during that time and it has been one of our favorite cruising grounds we’ve ever visited. Experiences like these are exactly why we travel the world by sailboat. But there is also a darker side to sailing the world. No matter how cautious we are, no matter how experienced or knowledgeable, we always run the risk of having to abandon ship. It’s been said that green sailors prepare for boredom and disaster but in reality neither is going to happen, and generally speaking I think that is true. But now that we are preparing to set sail on our first overnight offshore passage in over two years, it’s time for us to triple check all of our emergency gear, so that is the worst were to happen, we’d be prepared. But there’s a couple more hidden gems that we want to check out here in Greece before we say goodbye to to this beautiful country and shove off on the 48 hours sail up the Adriatic to Montenegro. Last week we transmitted the Corinth canal, explored the ancient ruins at Delphi, and anchored off the picturesque town of Galaxidi. This week our story begins with us under sail approaching the wetlands and shallow lagoon of the Greek town of Missolonghi. #sailingblog #saing video Photo Andes Wideskott Action packed video with the Old Seadog. Boats, classic cars and fun. Safe sailing. Boat: White Shadow is a Van De Stadt ‘Seal’ 36 (11 metres). She is hand made in steel, 2004, with a round bilge (hull) and a modified coach roof. This makes her a ‘one off’ and in my opinion the most beautiful Van De Stadt 36 ever built. The camera gear: Main camera is a Panasonic Hc- V700 with a Rode External mic with a sponge and dead kitten attached. Action, underwater scenes and small blogging is done with two Osmo action cams. Some boat shots are done with a Dji gimbal camera. Editing: Final cut pro on a Macbook. Most of the material for each video is filmed over a period of several weeks or so and the editing of each episode is normally done over a day. This process can take longer if original music is used or permissions are needed for copyrighted materials etc. Much time is spent sorting out technical problems. In this case I normally get the help of a younger person who understands computerie stuff! There are also times when filming, editing and uploading is not possible due to being at sea or in locations with no internet access. Content: I have found that filming and releasing material over a period of time is better than doing ‘vlog’ style videos and trying to make episodes out of whats happened in a week, regardless if it’s good content or not. By filming over a period of time I can be more selective in what goes into each video. My aim is to avoid ‘bland and mundane’ and have at least one or two exciting and interesting events in every video. Every video has to be entertaining. Comments and being at sea: I love reading your comments. Most weeks Im able to read everyone. I cant reply to everybody but I do read and enjoy them. Keep them coming! There are times that It might seem I'm not on the internet for certain periods, this is normally when Im at sea on passage. While Im out on the Ocean I have completely no communications with the outside World. Even though Boston Whaler has a winning recipe with the 270 Vantage, it was not an excuse to sit back and give a toast to the design team. That’s not the Boston Whaler way. The next step was to sit back down at the table and improve on the design. For that, Whaler needed to look no further than the “voice of the customer.” There’s no better yardstick than a customer’s opinion. Armed with this data, the design team set to work at making a winning boat even better. And the result is the 280 Vantage. We experience our windiest sail so far! 30-35 knots steady on the beam between Gran Canaria and La Gomera and we are being tested by the acceleration zones. As we are closing in on La Gomera the wind is gusting to 40 knots, and we have to enter the marina in darkness. Before we untied the lines we made a roadtrip around Gran Canaria, heading up the mountains. We also checked out the world cup in windsurfing in Pozo Izquierdo on the east coast. We are so happy to have reached 10.000 subscribers! Thank you so much for watching and for following us along on our adventure! We are a Swedish couple who wanted a different kind of life. So we moved in to our sailboat RAN, a one-off aluminium built Beason 40, and untied the lines in the middle of the Swedish winter and started sailing south along the coast of Europe. There is no set route and we will go where the wind and our minds takes us. For the full written captain’s report, test and performance data, and more about the Yamaha 195 FSH Sport, go to: https://www.boattest.com/review/yamaha/3964_195-fsh-sport The Yamaha 195 FSH Sport appeals to the coastal living customer. She has enough serious fishing features to accommodate all but offshore anglers, her family features will keep the dayboaters happy, and with Yamaha’s new accessories for watersports, we can even surf off of this boat. Having the functionality of a center console and marrying that with a jet boat has so many advantages.

Sailing adventure with sport catamaran Dart 18 from Ankaran (Slovenia) to Corfu (Greece). Camping on the boat. Dinghy cruising July 2016. 5,5m sport catamaran. 14 days and 1400km. Sailing Slovenia, Croatia and Greece. SUBSCRIBE to my channel: https://bit.ly/3wLa6vp Started from Slovenia with light winds. Croatia had light and strong winds so sailing was fun. I was sleeping on the boat in calm bays. After 12 days I came to island Mljet in Croatia. Weather forecast was 4 days of strong NW wind and I sailed out on open sea directly to Greece. Sailing was fun as my average speed was 12kn. After sailing day and night in Otrant gates one rudder broke. I was 50nm from Corfu and slowly and carefully made it to the island. I was on the open sea for 2 days and nights with no sleep so it was nice to touch ground. It was grate sailing adventure. Slovenia, Croatia and Greece are beautiful countries that offer one of the best sailing areas. This week our family is sailing from Tonga to New Zealand. This passage is known to be a difficult one and it's living up to its reputation. We are starting out the passage worrying about boat damage from the whale collision and we are low on food AND fuel. The weather isn't doing us any favors either. Thank you for watching and subscribing. You don't know how much we appreciate it! We’re finally making serious progress on our dream mountain homestead. Take your personal data back with Incogni! Use code ATTICUS at the link below and get 60% off an annual plan: https://incogni.com/atticus This week, we bring in the big machines and launch a massive excavation project—moving tons of dirt to carve out a build site on our steep mountain property. With flat land nearly impossible to find in the Smokies, we took a gamble buying this ridge-heavy lot. But now that excavation is in full swing, we’re finally seeing that gamble pay off. Along the way, I get the chance to learn how to operate a skid steer and jump in to help move dirt myself. It’s one of our biggest work weeks yet—and the transformation is wild. Give Cody a call for any and all excavation and home construction needs in Western North Carolina - (828) 226-9153 New to the channel? We’re Jordan and Desiree, and we’re building our mountain homestead from scratch, documenting every success, mistake, and lesson along the way. 👉 Subscribe and follow our journey! @ProjectAtticus ➤ Become a Patron & get early ad-free episodes: https://www.patreon.com/ProjectAtticus ➤ Gear we use: Sunglasses: https://shrsl.com/35iim Discount Code HPATTICUS Keen Footwear: http://bit.ly/2GSEMjt Our Mobile Internet Solutions - MobileMustHave: https://mobilemusthave.com Bluetti Portable Power Station: https://www.bluettipower.com/products/home-backup-power-ac500?variant=46381280493787

Spending another tropical day chilling in the unreal spot of Fakarava Atoll, South Pass, we take on the unreal drift dive for a third time, exploring the top notch underwater world that French Polynesia has to offer. This really is hyped up as one of the best dive sites in French Polynesia and the pacific and we couldn’t agree more. After the dive we dingy around to some deserted motus and find a pristine sand bank to get some silky drone footage. Join our crew! We are looking for new crew to join in the future journey.
