Yacht: 172' Custom 2014 [DONA FRANCISCA] Location: Punta Del Este, Uruguay Asking Price: $24,500,000 Yacht Brokers: David Johnson // David@DenisonYachting.com // 954.610.3263 Price, Specs + Photos: https://hubs.ly/Q01_ljb10 Launched in 2014 at the Astilleros Bequebus shipyard Dona Francisca is the largest carbon fiber schooner ever built, at 52.5m. Designed for an extremely experienced owner, who wanted a sailing yacht that was capable of cruising the world’s oceans in comfort, but still offer exhilarating performance. Naval Architect, Javier Soto Acebal was tasked with the challenge and the results are a stunning yacht taking design inspiration from the early English Cutters of the early 20th century, a very modern classic. Dona Francisca is a fully custom, state-of-the-art superyacht assembled by the sailing worlds luminaries. The owner required that only the leading experts in each field were hired to implement the most advanced hardware and components during a four-year build process. This collaboration highlights the exceptional quality and full-custom design which truly place her in the league of iconic superyachts such as Meteor (Royal Huiseman), ELFJE (Royal Huisman), and Marie (Vitters Shipyard), yet with a total displacement that is 25% lighter. Dona Francisca's hull and deck were constructed in carbon fiber using a 'sandwich' method, which sees carbon fiber skins impregnated with epoxy resin over a rigid PVC foam core- a proven build technique that delivers a light yet incredibly strong structure. An amazing amount of care went into the design of each component and piece of hardware installed onboard, including the request of a special hue of a bronze alloy for the winches and windlass bodies, which house Harken systems. Even the colors of each line and rope on board were taken into careful consideration to make sure the yacht maintained the classic look of her counterparts from the past. Performance is ensured with the use of Carbon Fibre rigging from Carbo-Link, Americas Cup style construction of carbon masts and booms, and the most advanced sails from the famous Doyle Sail Loft in New Zealand. Dona Francisca's clever interior configuration allows for a four-cabin layout, featuring a full-beam master suite with his and her bathrooms as well as a large separate private study, two VIP suites, and one guest double. The remaining living space is comprised of a large deckhouse and elegant and comfortable salon with both lounge and dining areas, and an ample-sized galley, all paneled in mahogany with cherry and chestnut flooring. Forward of the Galley are three crew cabins. 0:00 Introduction 2:06 Bow + Foredeck 3:19 Sail Plan 4:19 Tender 4:40 Upper Guest Area 5:14 Helm 5:48 Mechanical Space 6:39 Upper Salon Control Bridge 7:21 Master Stateroom 8:25 Engine Room 9:01 Main Salon 9:56 Guest Staterooms 10:37 Galley 11:18 Crew Accommodations 12:22 Outro Musicbed SyncID: MB013YLNNHEDVAC

Having sharp tools is important. As temps are warming up and we are getting back into the thick of boatbuilding work, we felt this would be an appropriate video. Well kept tools lead to fun, productive and safe work. There is nothing worse than trying to get a job done with the wrong tool or one that does not work as it should. In this video we show you Steve's process for sharpening his edge tools such as chisels and planes. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Sign up for our email newsletter: http://eepurl.com/hn3Qyv Acorn to Arabella is a boat building project taking place in Granby, Massachusetts. Steve and Alix started as amateur boat builders building their own 38' wooden boat in their backyard: designer William Atkin's Ingrid with a Stormy Petrel's gaff rig. These videos follow the journey from tree felling, to lumber milling, to lofting, to the lead keel pour and beyond—sharing details of the woodworking, carpentry, metal smithing, tool building, and tool maintenance that wooden boats command. This ultimate DIY project will continue well past launch, when they will travel and learn to cruise aboard the boat that they've built. From broken boats to broken bodies, the fourth stage of the SailGP season started in explosive fashion as the teams prepared for the mid season event. And while conditions did settle down for the racing, success was even harder to grasp and emotions started to boil over. Aarhus had it all.
We hope you're ready for the second installment of this episode (remember, there's no additional charge on this!!) as we get busy once again with unidirectional fiberglass. After the mess we got ourselves into last time - now we're armed with a bit more knowledge. As well as plastic cable covers, which are going to make our lives much easier. Since the unidirectional alone isn't going to be enough to fill these areas though, once it is cured we also hit it with a mix of resin, cotton flock; silica; and 1/4" chop strand fiberglass. All that's left to do now is bond the deck to the hulls so we can get these bad boys in place! We hope you enjoy! Much love from Annapolis! We built our daggerboard cases from scratch, but was it worth the extra trouble? https://us.ecoflow.com/?aff=253 Get your own portable power station from EcoFlow - the fastest charging on the market. #solargenerator #ecoflow # Well, the daggerboard cases have now been fully glassed and are ready to go into the boat. But, considering we could have had these molded from Max Cruise and shipped with the other components, was it worth going through the trouble of building them ourselves? In this last 'daggerboard build' series, we wrap our last bits of glass around the cases, sealing in the foam core. But unlike when we made the halves, this was all hand rolled instead of vacuum bagged. A much more laborious process, which has left us totally drained. It was a learning experience for sure - and now we can say we built a major part of the boat from scratch. Watch the full episode to see if we thought it was worth the extra time and effort. Inland and coastal waters are particularly hazardous to groundings and sinkings due to wind, waves, rocky shoals, submerged obstructions, strong currents, tidal swings of water depth, restricted visibility from fog, rain and darkness, other vessel traffic, shore lights and more. The US Coast Guard and local agencies deploy a comprehensive array of navigational aids including buoys, beacons, lights, dayboards, racons, bells, whistles, gongs, horns and more to assist mariners in safe conduct through these areas in all kinds of weather and traffic conditions. This seminar describes the navigational aids and their meanings, sources for authoritative description of specific Nav Aids in specific locations, and how mariners can acquire the latest change information in their area of interest for use in pre-planning a cruise.

With an almost two year wait for a new build, this captain maintained and no expense spared Fleming is undoubtedly the way to go! SHOWTIME is every owner/operator's dream come true. The Fleming 65 was introduced in mid-2005 in response to a strong demand for an intermediate Fleming between the 55 and the 75. Matt goes over our new wireless anemometer and how it will be able to communicate with the other electronics on our boat. Then, it's time for more touring as we have a rental car at our fingertips! Our first stop was a set of botanical gardens that have been using their springs for wellness since the late 18th century. I even get in the coffee like waters to ease my muscles and find that it is an incredibly relaxing spot to be. Then we head off to lunch where Matt enjoys a meal of meats and potatoes cooked by the heat of the earth. Day two has us giving Georgie a tour of the island, and finding all the green and grassy patches that appeal to her. Summer in Michigan is magic, because it’s so fleeting. It usually arrives sometime in June, and by the time you’ve attended a family get together and a wedding or two, it’s already August, and you’re wondering where the heck the time went… If you’re like most, you manage to squeeze in a week of vacation, preferably near the water, maybe on a boat! There might be a campfire, a few drinks, starry nights and just enough of a breeze to keep the mosquitos at bay. For us, this week in Charlevoix was our summer vacation. Charlevoix is a lovely little northern Michigan town, with a main street full of boutiques, restaurants and sweet shops. It overlooks Round Lake, a lively harbor connecting Lake Charlevoix to Lake Michigan. We spent couple days exploring the town. I’m (Lauren) a total coffee snob with a terrible sweet tooth, so the fact that Harwood Gold — a cafe/coffee shop that sells their own maple syrup — was only a block from our boat was trouble. The public library proved a great spot to get work done. The city provides free bikes for anyone to use around town. Kirk and I hadn’t ridden a bike since we sold our beach cruisers before leaving California, and we were elated to explore the area on bikes. Two nights at the city marina meant the slip fees were adding up. A coworker of Kirk’s mom invited us to bring our boat over to Oyster Bay in Lake Charlevoix where her and her husband have a cabin on the water. We dropped our hook beside their 36’ Pearson and their friends Jon and Katharine’s 42’ Hinckley. A splendid week with lovely people, and some gorgeous sailing to boot. Hope you enjoy! Hi there! I know, I know, what the hell have I been doing these last few weeks... Well, I've been working on some big projects, and took a little break from Youtube, BUT I'm back, and I have a surprise for you right here, so enjoy the tenth iteration of the Random Acts Of Ownage serie, this time featuring the Royal Navy Cruisers!
Here is Part 3 of our new series of videos on maintenance, upgrades, equipment and gear reviews and more as we begin our 2015 re-fit of 'Sophisticated Lady' here at Rodney Bay Marina in St Lucia, Caribbean... the new series aptly called "JUST ANOTHER DAY IN PARADISE!" Our sailboat refit begins at the IGY Rodney Bay Marina in Rodney Bay, St Lucia, Caribbean... The video series sponsored in part by IGY Marinas and Budget Marine Chandleries of St Maarten, begins with the haulout of 'Sophisticated Lady' at the shipyard of Rodney Bay Marina... the only IGY Marina in the chain of over 12 marinas across the Caribbean that has full haulout, maintenance, and repair facilities! 'Sophisticated Lady' is a bit overdue on her out of water maintenance, so this is going to be a big project.. but now we are at the start of getting a new epoxy bottom, followed by anti-fouling paint, and a complete cosmetic makeover topsides including lipstick and eye-liner! We'll be engaged in several projects during the haulout that will be documented to illustrate the capabilities of the boatyard, and continue to show you more and more of what it actually takes to live on a sailboat in the Caribbean, or anywhere else for that matter! Keep an eye out for future episodes, and don't forget to check out our sponsors at the links below! :) IGY Marinas http://www.IGYMarinas.com Budget Marine - The Caribbean's Leading Chandlery http://www.BudgetMarine.com Video Produced by http://www.LandAndSeaVideo.com ARL Logo Animation Produced by http://www.SomethingGames.com More Videos at http://www.AmbientRealLife.com caribbean, sailing, st maarten, sxm, st lucia, rodney bay, marina, igy, british virgin islands, bvi, tourism, Budget Marine, Caribbean Chandlery, travel, sailors, ambient real life.
South Georgia Island, the place where Penguins, Elephant seals, Reindeers and Fur seals all live together and have even take over the old whaling stations. It was so amazing! In the last part of Sailing Antarctica Mini Series we enjoy the wildlife and check out the abandoned whaling stations on South Georgia Island before it's time to sail north to Brazil. We hit a storm immediately and disaster strikes! Back on La Gomera in the Canary Islands our friend from Sweden visits. Together with them we leave the marina to spend a couple of days in the anchorage in Puerto Vueltas. We are a Swedish couple who wanted a different kind of life. So we moved in to our sailboat RAN, a one-off aluminium built Beason 40, and untied the lines in the middle of the Swedish winter and started sailing south along the coast of Europe. There is no set route and we will go where the wind and our minds takes us. We are leaving for Cabo Verde but not before taking care of a few things on El Hierro Island. When cleaning the hull a turtle friend says hello while munching on a sardine. We go on a lava hike and I test out a new cool product. Go for some serious fishing and a last trek in the cloud forest. And then we take off to Cabo Verde. UPDATE: I can not recommend using a polyurethane adhesive! Use an MS Polymer glue (like Bostik MSR) instead! We seem to be having issues with the foam breaking down - maybe due to the adhesive. Here's a basic how-to video on how to use a chartplotter to navigate a boat. http://features.boats.com/boat-content/2013/12/how-to-special-basic-chartplotter-navigation/ For more navigation tips, visit www.boats.com. One thing that all modern captains need to master is basic chartplotter navigation. Okay, you old salts - go ahead and tune out. You probably already know how to get from Point A to Point B with a minimum number of button-presses. But relatively new boaters may have a tough time figuring out how to use that chartplotter. For you folks, we shot this How-To Special on basic chartplotter navigation.
This week we install a bidet sprayer, high-water alarm, battery monitor, make a mattress protector, replace our 12V house battery and find out that we can't use our Hydrovane wind vane. *** Links *** Sail Life store: https://saillifeshop.com/ Sail Life on Patreon: http://bit.ly/SailLifeOnPatreon Sail Life on Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/saillife_/ Sail Life on Facebook: http://bit.ly/SailLifeOnFacebook Sail Life on Twitter: http://bit.ly/SailLifeOnTwitter

Trouble is- we were in a pandemic, had a university degree to finish, on a student budget, only had ever sailed dingies, oh and didn't have a boat. The dream seemed not only unrealistic but pretty insane. However, we worked hard, finished our degrees, worked as many hours as physically possible, saved with all our might, got experience and in March 2022 bought our very own sailboat, Teulu. Having little sailing experience and being a young couple, we have encountered a tonne of hurdles and made plenty of mistakes! but for every downfall, there has always been a reason to dust ourselves off and carry on. In this week's video, I replace the headstay, service an older Furlex unite, and install a zinc anode and a ground plate. Sometimes I really dislike YouTube! For whatever reason, this video went live as soon as it was done uploading (usually the video stays private until I choose to publish it). This means I didn't have time to write the message in the description for those of you looking for subtitles. It also meant I didn't have time to make a thumbnail or fill out any of the meta-information. No doubt this will hurt the video in terms of views. For those of you looking for subtitles: I know subtitles have been missing from the last 3 to 4 videos. Please understand that this is not my decision or something I've altered. Subtitles have always been automatically generated by YouTube. For whatever reason, they have stopped doing that. There are a lot of forum posts from people encountering the same issue. I'm sorry but this is not something I can fix on my end. *** Links *** Sail Life Shop: (Items are shipped from the US!) https://saillifeshop.com/ Sail Life on Patreon: http://bit.ly/SailLifeOnPatreon Sail Life on Instagram: http://instagram.com/madsdahlke Sail Life on Facebook: http://bit.ly/SailLifeOnFacebook Sail Life on Twitter: http://bit.ly/SailLifeOnTwitter Donations for the sandpaper fund: https://www.paypal.me/saillife
