She is hand made in steel, 2004, with a round bilge (hull) and a modified coach roof. This makes her a ‘one off’ and in my opinion the most beautiful Van De Stadt 36 ever built. The camera gear: Main camera is a Panasonic Hc-v700. Most shots are done with an external mic (Shenggu sg 108) with a sponge and dead kitten attached. Action stuff and small blogging is done with a Sony Hdr-as30v. Underwater video Gopro3plus. Editing: Final cut pro on a Macbook. Most of the material for each video is filmed over a period of several weeks or so and the editing of each episode is normally done over a day. This process can take longer if original music is used or permissions are needed for copyrighted materials etc. Much time is spent sorting out technical problems. In this case I normally get the help of a younger person who understands computerie stuff! There are also times when filming, editing and uploading is not possible due to being at sea or in locations with no internet access. Content: I have found that filming and releasing material over a period of time is better than doing ‘vlog’ style videos and trying to make episodes out of whats happened in a week, regardless if it’s good content or not. By filming over a period of time I can be more selective in what goes into each video. My aim is to avoid ‘blar bar mundane’ and have at least one or two exciting and interesting events in every video. Every video has to be entertaining. (Sorry Greg!!) I don't know what the rules are on this, but next time they have a boat brought in for demo, we're going to see if there is a way to list it for sale for a period of time first, just in case there is someone out there willing to bring it back to life. In OUR boat, I kind of take over the show for the week, walking away from fairing bulkheads, and focus on getting bilge paint into a few of our tucked away areas. In the master head I coat the area just behind our shower, where our watermaker will sit on the top portion, and the holding tank will sit below the counter. In our guest hull I go to work in the bilge area, sanding it and getting it ready to paint. This is one of our 'tougher to access all corners' areas, so I can definitely see why Matt gave the job to me. Just before painting we decided to switch to a barrier coat - which we did get two coats on! - but now we have to wait 5 days for that to cure before moving forward again.

After 7 months and 2145NM visiting 85 anchorages, it was time to say goodbye to Australia and sail to Southeast Asia to Indonesia! This was Rhonda's first ever ocean passage and the first time she had sailed out of the sight of land. The passage took us 6 days and 16 hours a distance of 724NM. We continue our sail south along the west coast of the US. Our destination is Coos Bay in southern Oregon which has a river bar we have to cross. This coast is infamous for dangerous river bars so let’s see how it goes! We are a Swedish couple who wanted a different kind of life. So we moved aboard our sailboat Ran, a custom built Beason 40 in aluminium and untied the lines in the middle of the Swedish winter in January 2016. Now the bigger crossings are starting. We have a nice build up with first the 650 miles from Sevilla to the Canaries, now the 850 miles to Cabo Verde and next the 2.100 miles to Barbados. Difficult weather patterns but still surprisingly good sailing times.

Just one week is left before we depart our home port of Racine, Wisconsin — for good!?! — and take off south down the river. The list of projects, errands, and to-dos is still a mile long. We need to buy anchor chain, install an anchor swivel, hook up plumbing to our secondary water tank, install sound deadening material inside the engine compartment, top off our batteries, install a cell phone booster, figure out what’s up with our engine leaking oil, arrange for our mast to be unstepped in Chicago, and organize our entire boat — which is a nonstop mess. In between the chores, we squeeze a little yoga, a workout, grocery provisioning, and even a day sail with our boat neighbors. They’ve so graciously helped us with so many boat projects over the summer, and since neither of them were able to sail their own boats this season, we were happy to be able to take them out on ours. Magnus Reslow, a Swedish single-handed sailor, shipwrecked at the coast of Colombia. Close to the sunken boat the coast guard found a dead body. Obviously Magnus. But even three weeks after the tragedy the body hasn't been identified yet. Friends and family in Sweden are worried that the cause of death is being hidden. Is Magnus a victim of a crime? Again? Because Magnus was already attacked by pirates six weeks before he died and he was afraid of leaving the marina. In this report we try to figure out what might have happened on SV Dhokus. In our final days of sailing on the Kraken 50, we get more comfortable living aboard, including cooking in the galley. With Adam and the team dealing with failing winds above deck, below deck, I prepare a semi successful meal for lunch. Not wanting to let the motor beat us but still contending with light winds, in the afternoon we prepared the Kraken's version of a Code 0 - The Code K. We arrive at our anchorage for the evening in almost record time doing 5.5 kts boat speed from 7.4 kts wind. The next morning, with only a 30 mile sail ahead of us, we could afford to spend some time swimming and relaxing. Eventually, we depart and after 5 days of sailing on the boat we head back to the marina to hand it back to its future owners. This makes her a ‘one off’ and in my opinion the most beautiful Van De Stadt 36 ever built. The camera gear: Main camera is a Panasonic Hc- V700 with a Rode External mic with a sponge and dead kitten attached. Action, underwater scenes and small blogging is done with two Osmo action cams. Some boat shots are done with a Dji gimbal camera. Editing: Final cut pro on a Macbook. Most of the material for each video is filmed over a period of several weeks or so and the editing of each episode is normally done over a day. This process can take longer if original music is used or permissions are needed for copyrighted materials etc. Much time is spent sorting out technical problems. In this case I normally get the help of a younger person who understands computerie stuff! There are also times when filming, editing and uploading is not possible due to being at sea or in locations with no internet access. Content: I have found that filming and releasing material over a period of time is better than doing ‘vlog’ style videos and trying to make episodes out of whats happened in a week, regardless if it’s good content or not. By filming over a period of time I can be more selective in what goes into each video. My aim is to avoid ‘bland and mundane’ and have at least one or two exciting and interesting events in every video. Every video has to be entertaining. Comments and being at sea: I love reading your comments. Most weeks Im able to read everyone. I cant reply to everybody but I do read and enjoy them. Keep them coming!
