He explains what each person should do and how to safely back up the the boat trailer, unhook the boat from the trailer, and get it to the dock. (The dinghy shown is a West Marine RU-3, PVC rollup, often on sale for less than $700 US) When it comes to taking the crew ashore, rowing an inflatable is awkward and slow. On the other hand, a heavy outboard hanging on the stern rail is at best a flag of convenience. How about a Torqueedo electric outboard motor, which is smaller, lighter, and comes apart for easy storage belowdecks with no fluids to leak or stain the doilies? The jury will be out for a while on the question of lifespan and battery endurance, but the initial impression is good.

She is hand made in steel, 2004, with a round bilge (hull) and a modified coach roof. This makes her a ‘one off’ and in my opinion the most beautiful Van De Stadt 36 ever built. The camera gear: Main camera is a Panasonic Hc-v700. Most shots are done with an external mic (Shenggu sg 108) with a sponge and dead kitten attached. Action stuff and small blogging is done with a Sony Hdr-as30v. Underwater video Gopro3plus. Editing: Final cut pro on a Macbook. Most of the material for each video is filmed over a period of several weeks or so and the editing of each episode is normally done over a day. This process can take longer if original music is used or permissions are needed for copyrighted materials etc. Much time is spent sorting out technical problems. In this case I normally get the help of a younger person who understands computerie stuff! There are also times when filming, editing and uploading is not possible due to being at sea or in locations with no internet access. Content: I have found that filming and releasing material over a period of time is better than doing ‘vlog’ style videos and trying to make episodes out of whats happened in a week, regardless if it’s good content or not. By filming over a period of time I can be more selective in what goes into each video. My aim is to avoid ‘blar bar mundane’ and have at least one or two exciting and interesting events in every video. Every video has to be entertaining. How we survive weeks away from civilisation and keep on Sailing! https://www.sailingnandji.com/ In this episode of Sailing Nandji, it is time to show how we can afford to live on our sailboat and travel around. We sail on a monthly budget and living from the land is a major part of that budget. We arrive back to Snake island to do some work and relax for a while. The weather had another idea though as we arrived in the middle of a heavy Sumatra squall with winds at 50 knots. Bonita teaches us a little recipe that she likes to cook when we are very low on fresh produce as we had only a carrot, some garlic and an onion left... We go diving and spearfishing chasing that elusive Dog tooth Tuna. With no sailing experience, we bought a yacht, got it blue water cruising ready and set off sailing to the Pacific! We have since cruised through New Caledonia, Vanuatu, the Solomon islands, Papua New Guinea, Indonesia and then onto the boat yard in Malaysia to prepare for the years to come. With a new engine, we continued onto Thailand, then back down into Indonesia and specifically West Sumatra where we are living the island life and chasing the surf. With our Sailing plans changing, we are returning to Thailand in the coming months and then taking the northern route of the Indian Ocean to the Andaman islands and onto Sri Lanka before heading south to Chagos and across the Indian Ocean once cyclone season has finished and the trades begin again! The adventure is just beginning! We departed the east coast of Australia in July 2017 and have since explored some amazing countries, met some beautiful people and experienced so many different and diverse cultures, dived pristine reefs, surfed solo in the middle of nowhere, spent weeks at sea, dealt with storms, big waves, strong winds and had the time of our life doing it!
