Yachting World's boat test on the hot new planing one-design

King planks and covering boards are so essential to the longevity of wooden boat decking, it warrants the caution and care that we've taken to get here. The covering boards are both "glued" and screwed, albeit with a wood glue called 4200, which can be removed with heat when maintenance calls for it. The king planks, on the other hand, will be simply screwed into place, and their solid nature makes for a stable, water-shedding surface down the centerline of the boat. It's a place where a few things pass through the deck of this DIY wooden boat, or where important hardware, such as the windlass (the mechanical winch that raises the anchor, needs a solid foundation. We set our anchor during slack tide and didn't realize how shallow the water was close to Satori. As we enjoy some "play time" on the beach, Satori quickly drifts over to shallow side and we run aground! After trying to figure out a plan of action, the tide slowly brought us back to deeper water and our Mantus reset like a champ. It was much less of big deal then we thought it was going to be. Today we are touring the ULTIMATE Princess SuperYacht! This is a Princess X95. It's the largest yacht in the Princess Yachts lineup at almost 30 meters or about 95 feet long. The boat has beautiful lines that are both bold and modern. It's a very open superyacht and boasts incredible views from most of the rooms. My sister arrived from Germany and we spent another week in Shelter Bay preparing to finally leave the marina. My big shipment from Baotoon arrived, jey, we had to mount a couple of things and fix a dinghi that someone had given to me so we can get to land when we are at anchor. The company’s first, but surely not the last, entry into this growing segment is the 338 OB. A class-packed weekender that is already turning heads. She’s got a large layout with multiple gathering areas that make her a qualified day boat and a modest cabin and head that allows her to venture well beyond the home marina and firmly plants her into the overnight category. We took her out on her world premiere for a full features inspection and performance evaluation to see how Cruisers has done, and in a word, she was impressive. Both to us and everyone we passed.

Safe sailing. Boat: White Shadow is a Van De Stadt ‘Seal’ 36 (11 metres). She is hand made in steel, 2004, with a round bilge (hull) and a modified coach roof. This makes her a ‘one off’ and in my opinion the most beautiful Van De Stadt 36 ever built. The camera gear: Main camera is a Panasonic Hc- V700 with a Rode External mic with a sponge and dead kitten attached. Action, underwater scenes and small blogging is done with two Osmo action cams. Some boat shots are done with a Dji gimbal camera. Editing: Final cut pro on a Macbook. Most of the material for each video is filmed over a period of several weeks or so and the editing of each episode is normally done over a day. This process can take longer if original music is used or permissions are needed for copyrighted materials etc. Much time is spent sorting out technical problems. In this case I normally get the help of a younger person who understands computerie stuff! There are also times when filming, editing and uploading is not possible due to being at sea or in locations with no internet access. Content: I have found that filming and releasing material over a period of time is better than doing ‘vlog’ style videos and trying to make episodes out of whats happened in a week, regardless if it’s good content or not. By filming over a period of time I can be more selective in what goes into each video. My aim is to avoid ‘bland and mundane’ and have at least one or two exciting and interesting events in every video. Every video has to be entertaining. Comments and being at sea: I love reading your comments. Most weeks Im able to read everyone. I cant reply to everybody but I do read and enjoy them. Keep them coming! There are times that It might seem I'm not on the internet for certain periods, this is normally when Im at sea on passage. While Im out on the Ocean I have completely no communications with the outside World. Episode 40 Well, as promised here's this weeks episode for you guys. We hope you like it. We finished up last weeks ep as we arrived in the British Virgin Islands. What a place! Unfortunately, the BVI took the brunt of Hurricane Irma and many of the islands saw winds of up to 217mph. The devastation is heart breaking. The BVI was home to many of the world's charter catamarans and it seems to us that cats get hit harder by big winds, they get lifted up and flipped over whereas mono hulls get rolled over and washed ashore. We counted over 30 yachts washed ashore just in Trellis Bay on Tortola alone! There were 60' catamarans upside down up a hill in Road Harbour where most of the cats are berthed. We tried to island hop and see as much as we could but there isn't anywhere that wasn't hit hard by the hurricane. Starting east at Virgin Gorda, to have a quick Bath then heading west and downwind. Hayley's maiden name was Cooper so of course we had to go visit there and it turned out to be a great place to hide from the wind for a few days. Our friends who crossed the Atlantic with us were headed for The Bight on Norman Island which is normally home to the famous Willy T's floating bar but of course this didn't survive Irma either so we made our own fun! We helped our friends with their boat issues for a change and I took the kids for their first scuba dive using AquaFrolics shiny new hookah diving system. No diving for pregnant Hayley unfortunately!
