Today we are touring the ULTIMATE Princess SuperYacht! This is a Princess X95. It's the largest yacht in the Princess Yachts lineup at almost 30 meters or about 95 feet long. The boat has beautiful lines that are both bold and modern. It's a very open superyacht and boasts incredible views from most of the rooms. My big shipment from Baotoon arrived, jey, we had to mount a couple of things and fix a dinghi that someone had given to me so we can get to land when we are at anchor. Safe sailing. Boat: White Shadow is a Van De Stadt ‘Seal’ 36 (11 metres). She is hand made in steel, 2004, with a round bilge (hull) and a modified coach roof. This makes her a ‘one off’ and in my opinion the most beautiful Van De Stadt 36 ever built. The camera gear: Main camera is a Panasonic Hc- V700 with a Rode External mic with a sponge and dead kitten attached. Action, underwater scenes and small blogging is done with two Osmo action cams. Some boat shots are done with a Dji gimbal camera. Editing: Final cut pro on a Macbook. Most of the material for each video is filmed over a period of several weeks or so and the editing of each episode is normally done over a day. This process can take longer if original music is used or permissions are needed for copyrighted materials etc. Much time is spent sorting out technical problems. In this case I normally get the help of a younger person who understands computerie stuff! There are also times when filming, editing and uploading is not possible due to being at sea or in locations with no internet access. Content: I have found that filming and releasing material over a period of time is better than doing ‘vlog’ style videos and trying to make episodes out of whats happened in a week, regardless if it’s good content or not. By filming over a period of time I can be more selective in what goes into each video. My aim is to avoid ‘bland and mundane’ and have at least one or two exciting and interesting events in every video. Every video has to be entertaining. Comments and being at sea: I love reading your comments. Most weeks Im able to read everyone. I cant reply to everybody but I do read and enjoy them. Keep them coming! There are times that It might seem I'm not on the internet for certain periods, this is normally when Im at sea on passage. While Im out on the Ocean I have completely no communications with the outside World. Episode 40 Well, as promised here's this weeks episode for you guys. We hope you like it. We finished up last weeks ep as we arrived in the British Virgin Islands. What a place! Unfortunately, the BVI took the brunt of Hurricane Irma and many of the islands saw winds of up to 217mph. The devastation is heart breaking. The BVI was home to many of the world's charter catamarans and it seems to us that cats get hit harder by big winds, they get lifted up and flipped over whereas mono hulls get rolled over and washed ashore. We counted over 30 yachts washed ashore just in Trellis Bay on Tortola alone! There were 60' catamarans upside down up a hill in Road Harbour where most of the cats are berthed. We tried to island hop and see as much as we could but there isn't anywhere that wasn't hit hard by the hurricane. Starting east at Virgin Gorda, to have a quick Bath then heading west and downwind. Hayley's maiden name was Cooper so of course we had to go visit there and it turned out to be a great place to hide from the wind for a few days. Our friends who crossed the Atlantic with us were headed for The Bight on Norman Island which is normally home to the famous Willy T's floating bar but of course this didn't survive Irma either so we made our own fun! We helped our friends with their boat issues for a change and I took the kids for their first scuba dive using AquaFrolics shiny new hookah diving system. No diving for pregnant Hayley unfortunately! After dreaming about becoming cruisers for three years, we finally sail from Key West to Cuba and arrive at Marina Hemingway! After sleeping for 12 hours, we spend our first full day exploring Havana Vieja and are fascinated by the bustling alleyways full to the brim with locals at work or kicking back with friends, kids getting off from school, tourists, scam artists and street performers. We pass the time exploring and taking in the vibrant colors of buildings and atriums of gorgeous colonial structures and the countless pristine antique cars that dot the streets. A couple hours before sunset Jordan insists on taking the ferry to a fortress next to the famous "El Morro” Castle. We’ve been finding the Swastika on tombstones and gates all over Bali. At first we were shocked. Turns out the swastika existed long before the Nazi’s. To this day it is a sacred symbol for many religions including Buddhism, Hinduism and many others. And the best part it represents the opposite of evil. After months spent mostly at docks, we venture out to live on the hook (which happens to be less than a block away from a grocery store, but hey, baby steps). This one has a little bit of everything. We pick up where we left off in the previous episode, with Lauren cooking breakfast underway, and watching a pod of dolphins leap in our bow wave. Your boat's Isinglass is like your car's windshield: if you can't see through it, you're going to hit something! If you want to be able to see through your boat's Isinglass, the most important thing is maintaining it properly. Fortunately, we have Chris Breeden here, from Norfolk Marine, to help us figure out how to do just that. Lenny: Chris, what's the number one thing about maintaining Isinglass? Chris: Lenny, you never want to fold it. You always want to roll it from the bottom, up to the top. The next most important thing you want to do is clean the Isinglass. But not with this. Never use any ammonia based cleaning products. Lenny: That's right, it'll turn Isinglass yellow and brittle. Chris: Instead you want to use a plastic cleaner. Lenny: Another important practice is to take it off completely during the winter months, roll it up, and store it at home. Chris: And don't forget to put plain paper on the Isinglass, so it doesn't stick to itself. Lenny: And of course you want to treat your canvass with a sealant so it doesn't leak. Chris: Make sure you do so early in the morning so the water-proofer has time to dry. Even if dew was to get on it, that could ruin the finish. Lenny: Take care of your Isinglass and canvass properly, and it'll last for years. And now that you can see through your windshield, try not to hit anything, will you?
