Relationships ain't easy on a boat. Sailing to super remote places like the islands off of Indonesia requires a solid relationship. We live in a small area of space, are always on top of one another. There is no escape and we are together all the time! How does that affect your relationship? Where do you go if you need to get some space or have an argument. You can't exactly sleep on the couch 2m away from your partner... With no sailing experience, we bought a yacht, got it blue water cruising ready and set off sailing to the Pacific! We have since cruised through New Caledonia, Vanuatu, the Solomon islands, Papua New Guinea, Indonesia and then onto the boat yard in Malaysia to prepare for the years to come. With a new engine, we continued onto Thailand, then back down into Indonesia and specifically West Sumatra where we are living the island life and chasing the surf. With our Sailing plans changing, we are returning to Thailand in the coming months and then taking the northern route of the Indian Ocean to Sri Lanka before heading south to Chagos and across the Indian Ocean once cyclone season has finished and the trade winds begin! The adventure is just beginning! We departed the east coast of Australia in July 2017 and have since sailed over 10000nm. We have explored some amazing countries and met some beautiful people along the way. We have experienced so many different and diverse cultures, dived pristine reefs, surfed solo in the middle of nowhere, spent weeks at sea, dealt with storms, big waves, strong winds and had the time of our lives doing it! There's no time for rest on RAN! The day after arriving to the Caribbean it's already time to haul out in Grenada Marine. We spend the next days painting RAN, fixing stuff and getting rid of the horrible smell we've noticed for a couple of days. Then we get a very exciting invitation which was hard to say no to. To spend the Christmas sailing on a Swan 60! We are a Swedish couple who wanted a different kind of life. So we moved aboard our sailboat RAN, a custom built aluminium Beason 40, and untied the lines in the middle of the Swedish winter and started to sail south along the coast of Europe. Part 4 of a series: Sailing Miami to Key West. We launch the Sail Boat at Haulover Beach Florida. After pulling away from the dock, we set the sails and head south. Gasparella ex dipendente Alfa Romeo, sull’uccisione mirata di un eccellente industria italiana Giuseppe Petrilli Petrilli fu presidente dell’IRI per quasi vent’anni, dal 1960 al 1979, attraversando sia il periodo del “miracolo economico” che quello della crisi. Negli anni ’60 l’IRI era indicato come modello positivo di intervento dello stato in economia; nel 1967 Petrilli pubblicò un libro intitolato Lo Stato imprenditore: validità ed attualità di una formula, in cui veniva esaltato il ruolo dell’IRI nell’economia italiana, e che fu tradotto in diverse lingue. Negli anni ’70, con la recessione, la funzione dell’IRI cominciò ad essere messa in discussione, ma Petrilli rimase presidente. La sua gestione fu criticata per la tendenza ad accentrare i poteri di gestione su di sé e su pochi dirigenti a lui fedeli (che vennero soprannominati “gli alani di Petrilli”). Notevole fu il suo scontro con il presidente dell’Alfa Romeo Giuseppe Luraghi, che finì per dimettersi dalla carica per sottrarsi alle pressioni ricevute per realizzare un terzo stabilimento Alfa in Irpinia, collegio elettorale dell’allora ministro dell’Industria Ciriaco De Mita. La sua immagine fu offuscata dall’emergere di alcuni scandali finanziari che coinvolgevano le società del gruppo e dai cattivi risultati di gestione. Nonostante ciò, Petrilli rimase presidente fino al 1979, quando divenne senatore eletto nelle liste della Democrazia Cristiana. Just as with the locust for the covering boards, we only have so much of the pine deck planking and must make the most of it. Not all wooden sailboats have laid decks such as this one, which will be cotton caulked and pitched when it's finished. Since wooden boatbuilding is something that Steve is treating as a life experience, a laid boat deck is something he'd like to make on this journey. We meet Sam, who most recently worked on the AJ Meerwald (state tallship of New Jersey) restoration with Clark and Eisele Traditional Boatbuilding. Now he's lending that experience to Arabella, which is more of a DIY wooden boat adventure, and he's been a treat to work with. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Acorn to Arabella is a boat building project taking place in Granby, Massachusetts. Life aboard a sailboat revolves around the saloon table, and this week Steve makes progress on a tilting version of one while our new crew member, Scott, builds the cover for the fore hatch. If you look closely, there are a lot of types of joinery in the shop this week, and there are a great many carpentry approaches that could be taken for everything we build. Scott, our new crew member cut his first dovetails here in the shop. The navigation station for the cockpit comes a little closer to done as well, and a slew of warmer days means we can remove the large plastic tent to see, for the first time, the cabin house fully faired and with port lights installed! It's our third week at sea, on passage from Costa Rica to Hawaii and the weather changes. For a couple of days it's really windy and there's not much else to do than to sit down below and drink coffee and tea. We are a Swedish couple who wanted a different kind of life. So we moved aboard our sailboat RAN, a custom built Beason 40 in aluminium, untied the lines in the middle of the Swedish winter and started to sail south along the coast of Europe.
