In Episode 5 of The Expertise, Director of Wooden Boat Festival, Barb Trailer speaks with Lisa Werner and Dr. Mimi George to discuss how indigenous sailing knowledge is preserved and passed down in voyaging cultures. Hear Dr. George discuss her work as an anthropologist working with communities in places like Siberia, as well the Vaka Taumako Project - an ongoing effort to train new generations in ancestral voyaging skills, as well as document and publish the knowledge of the indigenous communities of the Solomon Islands. The Expertise is a series created by Northwest Maritime Center as a part of its Wooden Boat Festival programming. NWMC's Wooden Boat Festival is the second largest wooden boat festival in the world, and takes place annually in Port Townsend, WA. It is made possible, in part, by support from First Fed Bank.
