Sir Russell Coutts is one of sailing’s most decorated sailors. To add to the long list of World Championships he has an Olympic Gold medal and has won the America’s Cup five times, three as skipper. But his reputation hangs on more than simply pointing a boat in the right direction. In 2010 he swapped the wheel for the reins and announced a bold, ambitious and controversial vision for the next America’s Cup, the move to catamarans. And the Cup has never looked back. He talks candidly and exclusively to World Sailing. Realtime updates at https://www.instagram.com/sailing_with_dogs/ - make sure to check out our Instagram stories up top! We made it to Key West after a crazy overnight sail (see Episode 3 - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=X-Q87l3FfIg) where we broke half the boat - or so it seemed. We spent our time in Key West giving the dogs some much-welcomed land time and fixing what we could on the boat. We also gave her a much-needed clean. It’s not always a glamorous life, being a cruiser, but it is great being able to do the dirty work with a gorgeous backdrop like Key West! Thanks to our friends on SV Unspoken for the wonderful dog park and restaurant recommendations! We didn’t film it, but we LOVED eating at Bien, an awesome Cuban restaurant in a quieter spot in Key West. A: I live in a van, which certainly cuts costs down but still I need to make some money in order to afford to continue, currently I make 90% of my income through working as a photographer/videographer. I regularly work for Airbnb as a real estate photographer and I also take on bigger commercial contracts whenever I get the chance. - How much does it cost? I spend on average $2000 travelling, most of which is gas, some repairs, food, and on average less than $200 on any eating out, shopping or extra curricular expenditures. I make $200 a month from YouTube and $400 from Patreon. The rest I make from my work. - What camera do you use? Sony A7ii, Nikon D810, Sony RX100 iii, DJI Phantom 3 Advanced, Rode Videomic with Deadcat, Zihyun Crane 3 Axis Gimbal, Underwater Housing, tripods and lights. - What is your van? 1992 Dodge B350 Travelhome with the 5.9L TBI gas engine. I spent $3500 buying it and so far another $9000 in repairs upgrades and maintenance. - What're your plans? Travel forever. The Arctic this summer, Asia next winter, Sailboat the world after. I want to see this whole world, and I'm playing it all by ear. - How do you find all these cool places? To gain access to my complete research you need to hit me up on Patreon, but here's a few sites I frequent: https://freecampsites.net/ https://www.campendium.com/ http://www.atlasobscura.com/ https://www.couchsurfing.com/ - What do you do for Internet? I use coffeeshops and libraries to upload episodes a few at a time, I also use my wifi antenna (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5T9lNM8Mukk&t=2s) and a data package on my phone (10GB) - How do you live in a van with a dog? It's really not as difficult as people seem to think. I spend most of the day with my dog anyways, especially if it's warm out in the middle of the day. If I have to leave him inside the van I cover the front seats so he can't climb up and stare out the window and bark. I cover all the windows with reflectix panels I made for insulation, I turn my fantastic sucking air out on max (replaces all the air in the van every 90 seconds). I crack one window in a shaddy lower part of the van to create a consistent airflow. Other than that the fiberglass roof and insulation do a fantastic job of keeping the heat out. In colder climates I set the furnace on at minimum and close down all the windows same as for heat minus venting. - What happened to the girl? We decided to go seperate ways (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aPgxDIXxCjY&t=4s) - Are you rich or something? definitely not. I've spent some quality time homeless, I've struggled financially most of my life, and although I'm blessed with great friends and family as well as being able bodied white and male, I don't subscribe to the belief that you need someone footing your bills in order to travel the world. You need to sacrifice comfort, consistency, safety, time with family, and often your career but it is possible. - Why don't you have 10x more subscribers? My channel isn't that old, many of the bigger channels you can compare mine to started putting out videos a couple years before I began. I could always use your help sharring my videos, spreading the word, and connecting with cross promotional opportunities. Editing and travelling tend to take up all my time.
The decision to ship the electric motor back to Electric Yachts was a simple one. Actually mailing a massive motor is not such a simple one. In order to ship it, I first need to build a crate around the motor to keep it safe while in transit. This is all well and good, but the motor weighs 130 pounds, so getting it boxed up and shipped off will prove to be a challenge. We are a bit overwhelmed with jugging so much and also are sad to close this chapter of our lives. But, we are also aware that change can be scary and are really excited at the same time. We are ready to move forward with this adventure! We work on several projects aboard and get new solar panels installed on the vessel. After several trips to goodwill and a garage sale the moving company comes to ship some of our belongings to Vieques, PR. And we are fully moved aboard and ready to set sail south. ** NOW SOLD ** This Flying Tiger 10 “Tigress“ is now exclusively for sale with YOTI Melbourne. Launched in 2007, Tigress is a superb example of the Flying Tiger 10. Designed as a very competitive club racer, the design boasts a full carbon mast and boom and a massive open cockpit. She can be dry sailed, trailered or put in a container. The design also suits fun day sailing and the large interior even allows for overnighting. Tigress is equally at home with a crew of 4-5 or singlehanded. The headsail winches have been positioned close to the helm and mainsheet to allow all to be in easy reach of the helmsperson. The boat was recently antifouled and has all new rigging. A new carbon mainsail compliments a mix of Dacron and carbon sails. This is a fast, fun, competitive little boat all at a very modest budget. Visit www.yoti.com.au for more information.

After the very successful opening rounds of this year’s ACU British Timecard Enduro Championship taking place in Scotland recently, the series now heads to the picturesque market town of Helmsley, North Yorkshire & will take place over the weekend of 13th/14th May. John Kerwin the clerk of the course for Dirtbike Actions “Putoline Yorshire 2 Day Enduro” has spent the recent last few months busy revamping this year’s event & with the recent spell of dry weather & ground conditions bone dry, all things are looking good for another cracking round in this year’s series. For this event John is working alongside the Fast Eddy Racing Team to bring you a top quality event. With the start/refuelling area being moved further down the road into a larger area plus the route being far more flowing & less technical, along with check times being more relaxed than previous years, all classes should find the event far more enjoyable. John has set out a 20 mile forest route, using 2 new XC styled Special Tests & with possibly 3 checks per lap. John has also used Paul Edmondson’s vast experience & input on both the new XC tests design layout. XC Test 1 is located 500m from the start near the farm, will be fast flowing through mature wildly spaced trees & should run at around 3 minutes for championship class riders. XC Test 2 is located where the 2015 long test was, but apart from the start & finish area is on all new ground, this should run for around 8 minutes for championship class riders. The electric motor survived being submerged, but we decided to play it safe and send the motor back to Electric Yachts, the manufacturer, Andy let them give the motor a thorough inspection. This way, Ed will avoid any issues arising while we are cruising because of latent damage that occurred while being submerged. I also installed Maddie's Christmas present, in May, only to find that it was defective and needs to be replaced. I catch and gather food wherever I can. I have no fridge or freezer, no oven, no aircon, no generator, no water heater, no watermaker ... ( and some may say no idea) So if you want to see some interesting places and some interesting crew then follow me. Hi everyone - Impi is a catamaran sailing around the world. Brent and Ana have sailed on this Lagoon 440 catamaran for the past 7 years and now currently sailing off the East Coast Australia. In this episode, we depart Brisbane City where Impi was anchored up the river - we duck from a storm off Peel Island where lightening and thunder caused Mayhem with one yacht struck by lightening, another on the rocks and some washed ashore. The following Day the Australian Coast guard call Impi on VHF 16 requesting to board the vessel - oh boy - what happens is not what one would think !!! We hope you all have fun watching our movie ... Cheers for now Brent and Ana See the link for the DOWN UNDER RALLY:https://www.downunderrally.com Want to see drone footage when we next visit New Caledonia?
