Ever since I was a child, and even before I learnt to sail, I had dreams of circumnavigating the globe on a yacht. Having a husband and three children of my own hasn't diminished that lifelong ambition - it just take a bit more planning - but it looks like we might be heading off soon. All we need is a boat! TRANSCRIPT I've always wanted to circumnavigate the world. As a kid I’ve always wanted to sail around the world, do a circumnavigation and I still want to do it and now I have a husband three kids and I still want to do it with them.. just about. I think if you're traveling and you go to remote places, you get to see amazing things - landscape, marine life, fauna and flora exploring different places - that's kind of what I want to do with the kids. It would be like a voyage of discovery. We know roughly the route that you might take it's a fairly standard route that follows the trade winds. We don't know how far we get but there's so much to see out there and it's a great way of doing it. Making that journey as a family, doing it as a team seeing how the kids can cope with their own responsibilities. That's another thing I think there can be so many benefit from that - maybe we can’t even describe at the moment. When you’re out on a boat you don't have an electricity supply or a water supply or guest supply. A lot of people will use a water maker to make their own water. You will use solar power and wind power and occasionally you will have to use generator which means getting fuel. But the idea of being self-sufficient and even sometimes catching your own fish and trying to source your own food in different countries where you get it from or do you do an exchange with people. I think that can teach children a lot because children are very detached nowadays from where things come from. Everything’s provided for them. Teaching kids to be more appreciative of where things come from and actually having that motivation themselves - if they do this then they get a result and I think it's very difficult to teach child that but when they experience it and they realise that there is a limited resource of everything I think they really learn that and I really want to teach my children that. So the idea of living autonomously without a school without all the resources that we have at a click of a button I think it can be nerve-racking in some ways because you know you are left to fend for yourselves but I'm excited about that as well. Without having the school, yeah that makes me more nervous because I think the teachers are wonderful, they do a great job and their kids love being with other children so we're going to have to provide that that would be more tricky but I'm hoping that the world will become our children's classroom and they will learn from the world from the different cultures, the different ways that people live as well as sitting down and doing their maths and English on the boat. So we're looking for a boat that most importantly is seaworthy because we won't just be sailing in light weather conditions there will be sometimes heavy weather sailing so it's got to be seaworthy especially as when we’re taking our kids with us it's obviously a big responsibility. We also need a boat that can accommodate us all as well as extra people when we go on long ocean passages so we need a boat with at least three cabins, one for us and two other cabins. Ideally you would have a boat with four cabins but it's very rare to get a boat of that size that we can afford. The other thing is there's a lot of things we need on it. We need to have a water maker we need to have a generator we'd like to have wind power we'd like to have an SSB radio, a satalite phone. There’s lot of things we would love but obviously everything costs money and we have a budget. So the way that we can afford this is because we've lived in tiny little places, doing them up selling, got to our final house where we've divided it into half so we live in a smaller part of the house we rent the other half, so we sacrifice a bit of space so that we can save up and keep our savings intact. It's not a huge budget but we’ve done it through working really hard all our lives and saving up ourselves. It's really not as difficult as people seem to think. I spend most of the day with my dog anyways, especially if it's warm out in the middle of the day. If I have to leave him inside the van I cover the front seats so he can't climb up and stare out the window and bark. I cover all the windows with reflectix panels I made for insulation, I turn my fantastic sucking air out on max (replaces all the air in the van every 90 seconds). I crack one window in a shaddy lower part of the van to create a consistent airflow. Other than that the fiberglass roof and insulation do a fantastic job of keeping the heat out. In colder climates I set the furnace on at minimum and close down all the windows same as for heat minus venting. - What happened to the girl? I've spent some quality time homeless, I've struggled financially most of my life, and although I'm blessed with great friends and family as well as being able bodied white and male, I don't subscribe to the belief that you need someone footing your bills in order to travel the world. You need to sacrifice comfort, consistency, safety, time with family, and often your career but it is possible. - Why don't you have 10x more subscribers? My channel isn't that old, many of the bigger channels you can compare mine to started putting out videos a couple years before I began. I could always use your help sharring my videos, spreading the word, and connecting with cross promotional opportunities. Editing and travelling tend to take up all my time.

We had previously arranged for a haulout to re-antifoul Nandji and replace the cutlass bearing so had her hauled out as planned. The mechanic couldn't work on the motor until she was back in the water so we carried out the work as planned. We antifouled the yacht, re-fibreglassed sections and replaced the yachts cutlass bearing. Nandji was put back into the water where a mechanic was able to assess the motor. We find out the fate of the motor and weather we will be able to continue to sail or not. First stop was in Christchurch where we got to see an awesome museum exhibit on the 75 year history of Air New Zealand, complete with a virtual reality look at the future of air travel! Amy also couldn't pass up the opportunity to check out the botanical garden, filled with beautiful flowers and even an herb and veggie garden! After Christchurch we drove up to Blenheim to attend the Marlborough Food and Wine Festival. This festival had been circled on our calendar ever since we arrived in New Zealand and it was well worth the wait! I'm still amazed we managed to walk out on our own two feet! This was definitely not a zero waste trip, so let's see where it crept in. One thing I didn't mention in the video that was interesting -- the checker I went through let me know that Whole Foods was going to stop allowing people to use their own containers for bulk bin purchases. I've never heard this before. I know it's "not allowed" at other stores, but I usually get by using a low weight bag. How would Whole Foods enforce this? Have you heard this from your Whole Foods? I'm happy to shop PCC that not only allows me to bring in my own container, but encourages people to. Finally- what's your thought on tooth brushes? Do you use bamboo? Why or why not?
